Bob Stoops

I'm generally a KF supporter, for the record. I'm also a big Bob Stoops fan.

If Bob Stoops had coached at Iowa instead of KF, I think Stoops probably would have done better. But I don't think Iowa would have won a NC under Stoops either.

That is history.

I don't think Stoops will be the next Iowa coach, nor do I really think he should be. I believe that if Stoops had a burning desire to coach that he would still be at Oklahoma. And, if he doesn't have that burning desire, I'd rather not have him.

How does it make you feel that Cincinnati is now closer to a NC then you have ever experienced as a Hawk fan? Dan Gable would punch some of you square in the nose for having such a losers mentality....its pathetic. Why play if the ultimate goal (not saying once a decade) isn't a National Championship???
Sure he would tough guy. I'm sure the players appreciate your mentality as you sit your ass on the couch, while they do the real work.

Dan Gable also understands that we as fans have **** all to do with the team's success, so it really doesn't mean a damn thing what we want.

Yep, you’re right. Screw the fans. It not OUR team! How DARE we expect results! It’s Kirk’s team and fans just need to shut up and accept the product on the field.

I'm 62. Iowa was last mentioned in contention for the then mythical national title the year I turned 2. If that is your metric of success for a program like Iowa you are never going to be satisfied. You will be chronically unhappy if you stick with Iowa.

Roll on over to a Big Blue Blood. tOSU is probably a better school to support, keep it in the Midwest.
The go-to of those with no other bullets left to fire. LOL

I see nobody here clamoring for national titles here. They do believe we can be better than a 2nd or 3rd place annual finisher in a weak division in the league (one B1G title game appearance in 10 years). They also believe we don't need to be Wisconsin's bitch like every other team in the division has become through the years.

No reason to keep arguing with someone whose completely content being Wisconsin's bitch like everyone else in the West over the past 10 years. Iowa is an annual 2rd, 3rd, or 4th place finisher in a very weak division other than one year over the past 10. There are fans like him-- ankle level expectations means they can have soft landings and avoid disappointment. Understand some people here for what they represent 83.

Imagine being so wrapped up in your insecurity complex that you project your "winning mentality" onto a team you essentially have nothing to do with.

I understand that what I want has no effect on the teams I'm a fan of. Do you?

I know. I’m going to stop now. If he doesn’t care about winning and is perfectly happy with scoring 7 points a game, nothing will ever change his mind. I am putting him on ignore.

Imagine being so bad at reading comprehension that you think I'm perfectly happy with the offense.

LOL, doesn't change the fact of anything I said. Guessing you've always been a follower and remain having ankle level expectations in all facets because you're fearful of not having a soft landing. You're all pissy because someone has challenged the thought of being Wisconsin's bitch and called your baby ugly. This has been nice entertainment seeing you destroyed by about 9 different people here now. You can have all the man love/hero worship for some of the coaches here-- we get that you do. Doesn't mean everyone else just falls in line.

He's the poster child for those who live in cushion padded boxes afraid of disappointment and potentially hard landings. Those people exist. The more you let them yap the more stupid they look. This guy is going to be famous from this thread alone. :p

Lol at thinking I've been destroyed. You keep a tally of the arguments you win online too?

Sorry I'm not throwing a temper tantrum over the team like some of you because I understand that football seasons are longer than 8 games and that I don't have a memory that lasts for only two of them.

When brought up against Iowa's accomplishments in that same time frame (6 top 25 finishes, 2 top 10), yes, it's a stupid argument.
I want to make sure that these posts are in context. There weren't 6 top 25 finishes and 2 top 10's during the time frame referenced.

"Found the Hlas 2011 article....the stats below are from 2006-2011"
Wisconsin 31-0 1.000 pct.

Penn State 29-0 1.000

Indiana 6-0 1.000

Ohio State 42-2 .955

Michigan 21-1 .955

Nebraska 29-3 .906

Northwestern 8-1 .889

Michigan State 16-2 .889

Purdue 14-2 .875

Illinois 12-2 .857

Iowa 19-9 .679

Minnesota 2-2 .500

From 1999 to 2005, Ferentz's first seven seasons as Iowa's coach, the Hawkeyes were 18-0 straight-up when they were favored by 10 or more points.

The difference was significant.

Your breaking news is about 15 hours late.

What will be interesting to see will be if this will turn into a permanent appointment for him at OU.

History tells us that when a coach makes a return to a school after being away it never seems to go well. Both sides likely are considering that.

Unfortunately for OU the initial fallout from recruits to Riley's departure has been brutal-- one 2022 top recruit and three top 2023 commitments have already re-opened their recruitment.

Riley leaving is what it is, it's a huge move but scores of coaches depart after the regular season every year. But the optics look bad with his whole staff basically scurrying off on a private plane under the cover of darkness this morning. Is any of that staff going to stay to coach the bowl game? Riley is already at USC, wait a month and then join him on LA Beach with new fat contracts and margaritas. I get Riley leaving to secure the USC job, but it just looks bad if most of the staff abandons those players who battled all season.

I hope with all the craziness that we do not end up playing Oklahoma in a bowl game this year.
Stoops vs Hawks. The media would love it.

Where are you reading/hearing most of Riley's staff is with him going to LA on a plane today for this afternoon's presser?

With the amount of $$$$$ USC will be paying Riley, I'm guessing he had little choice in having to take the job now and get in some recruiting before the signing date in two weeks.

Like it or not, often times this is what happens when a coach takes another job and to their defense-- timing is very important-- especially with recruiting now that the first signing date has been moved up to mid-December.

I get it though with regards to what you're saying. Coaches leave all the time but it's the brutality of the business to witness the immediacy of the staff cutting ties with players overnight. Old man Stoops has to try to stop the bleeding and do everything himself with some grad assistants next month in San Antonio.

Actually based on what this guy is reporting there are only 2 coaching assistants on the plane with Riley this morning.

Stoops will have some GAs step up and fill in for those two assistants in the bowl game.
