Bob Stoops

coming out from the bridge ay?
really, like I'm the only one pissed, are you ignoring everyone else? sure, whatever, I don't post often so it's important to you to point that out. I usually don't make a big deal of losses and so don't usually post about them, but this one felt worse, so yeah, I'm getting some anger off my chest. nice to have met you.

kids go to iowa to commit "atheletic suicide" even though iowa is one of the top (especially non blue blood) schools for putting guys in the nfl??

yeah, i'd say you're a troll....

Yesterday was the first Iowa game in over 20 years that I didn’t watch in some fashion (live or on TV). My son had a basketball game and I didn’t even check my phone during the game. Heard the parents behind me talking about it and one of them said “Bet Number 8 scores more than the Hawks today.”

Number 8 is my son. And he scored more than Iowa did.

Didn’t mind not watching No. 9 Iowa get put to bed. Bring on Stoops.

When the Fox show was set up for the postgame, in the NE corner, my son shouted at Stoops "when you gonna come back and coach the Hawks?" Bob looked right at him and gave a devious smile. I think it has been on Bob's mind for awhile, ramped up when the Doyle issue came up, and now could possibly be front of mind.

I have thought for a couple years that Bob would come in, after Kirk, to groom Brian for the head coach job, get a trusted opinion, from the inside, if Brian can do it. I think the Brian ship has sailed but now Bob could come in and be the change for 5 - 10 years.

He told me he wasn't listening to any of that talk once...but if the situation was right where KF stepped down and wasn't forced out coupled with a new AD, then there is a slight chance.

Because of the great job he did at Arkansas? Or because of the stellar performance on Saturday in the loss to mighty Rutgers?

Jabba is a no-go. Illinois can have all 500 pounds of him.
Maybe because in his time at Wisconsin he lead the Badgers to 3 Rose Bowls and perennial winner of his B1G division How did that compare to Iowa?

Mark hasn't exactly torn it up at Kentucky. He's 3 games over .500 in 9 years... was 1 game under .500 prior to this season. Not so sure he's the answer
Go take a look at what Mark inherited before he took that dismal program over.

He didn't just have to upgrade personnel and facilities, etc, but he had to do a complete culture shift for football.

On top of all this, he did all this in the SEC.

Try looking a bit deeper at the situation the next time before answering.

Take your own advice and apply it to Bielema.

For those who think Stoops won’t come out of retirement, he coached in the XFL last year. So he is still interested in coaching. It’s not my money, but I’d give Stoops whatever he wanted (assuming he keeps Parker).

How many times do you have to get it through your thick head Bob Stoops isn't coming to Iowa. He didn't come to Iowa the first time and he isn't coming now. Would you have come to Iowa instead of Oklahoma? He retired from Oklahoma and isn't going to jump into a job that is 100% harder to recruit than where he was. Drop it it's over.

Try getting off your high horse when stating your viewpoint. I'm aware that building a football program at Kentucky is no small task.

I stated facts to your post dude. You clearly didn't know what Stoops had to do there otherwise you would have mentioned something about it. Stop being so sensitive. At least now you've been enlightened.

Because, at the very least, with Bret B you know he's going to adapt and try everything he can to win.

Stoops would have taken the Iowa job if offered.

If you are posting get your facts right instead of throwing out bullshit like you know.

As 83Hawk pointed out, Bob would have come to Iowa years ago had he been offered the job. You know what the source is on that? His brother Mike.

When Bob was asked in a "hypothetical" situation by a former coach he coached at Iowa with in the 1980s at Iowa, on the Thursday night before the Penn State game if he'd come out of retirement to coach Iowa today, he answered "maybe" with a smile.

Fact-OU had offered Bob the job before his interview with Iowa. Bob told OU he was going to interview with Iowa before he was going to make a decision. At the Iowa interview, Bob told the committee that OU had offered him and wanted to know when Iowa would make their decision because if Iowa didn't want him, he wasn't going to risk losing the OU job waiting on Iowa. As we all know, Iowa was noncommittal and told him the decision was going through a committee, and they didn't know how long that would take. To which Bob left the interview and immediately called OU and took the job.

And yes, I personally know he would have taken the job if Iowa had shown interest and given him a reasonable timeline for a decision.

With that said, I am not 100% convinced he would coach Iowa today.

Compliments to you that you have the story 100% accurate in December 1998 when the committee was deciding on a new coach and how the Stoops scenario shook down.

As for Bob taking the Iowa job today, I can't say for certain either-- I might need to ask his brother Mike his opinion. However, I do think Iowa is the one college job he'd consider taking to come out of retirement for.

That's cool. One can disagree or provide a different view without snark.

Don't mistake my passion in my replies for being snarky. I wasn't intending that in my first reply to your post and in my second reply to you I said what I did after your personal shot at me.

Cool. All good, man. Wasn't intending to take a shot at you, I'm just a little more skeptical on MS. He may indeed be the ideal candidate if KFz steps down in the next few years. Sure beats the hell out of BFz.

Well, he already came out of retirement once to coach an XFL team two years ago, so I would hope he'd consider Iowa.

Bullshit answer. Is one of them with John Streif (first person he called when his interview with Iowa was finished)? Is one of them with Mike Haight or Lon Olejnicazk? But here's the biggest one of all: How about Mike Stoops huh? And after that, what about the second guy he called after Streif-- Dan Gable asking him why he wasn't offered the job and reminded Gabe how much he wanted it. They'd laugh at you.

Don't know why that happens and post ahead. He loved Iowa if he would take the job the ceiling that he could attain would have been much lower.

I'm sorry we can argue about this for hours but just put yourself in Bob's shoe's. If your a young coach taking your first job trying to be as successful as possible what job would you take? If your being honest at all with yourself at all your going to say Oklahoma. If he would have come to Iowa I'm sure he would have been successful but nothing like he has been. You can't recruit at Iowa like Oklahoma. Kids out of Texas don't flock here like they do down there. Just do some thinking and think of where he would have ended up.

I just talked to two on your list in the last 20 minutes and sent them a screenshot of your post... Are you sure that your quoting them? Have to tell you that they don't quite see it the way your telling it. I helped put together a fundraiser where Stoops and Ferentz we're both there for a few years and had many conversations with them both in the room. Neither told the story quite like you are and two people you just quoted aren't quite sure of your facts.
