On FRL today, Willie said he got a direct message that the Brands brothers might corner Pat Downey at the trials ... wouldn't name the source. Sounds like total hearsay / speculation at this point, but I personally think that would be wildly entertaining.

He's such a talent. He would be a great transfer for us at 97 next year and then part of the HWC after IF he wasent such a cancer. If Brands think they could get him to act like a normal person I guess I would trust there judgement. Right now there is no evidence to show his behavior will be beneficial to the Iowa room. Just don't know how to feel about this if true.

but would iowa state restrict him transferring to iowa if were to happen since they are on the schedule. I thought I read or heard that iowa state wont grant his release to another team on their schedule. but i could be totally wrong about that.

OMG the internet would implode if that happened. I actually said that him in the room may not be a bad thing and gave my reasons why (most were couched within all the necessary parameters). I was shredded. Now, I kind of said it tongue in cheek but do think he has a certain attitude and swagger that if harnessed may rub off. I truly believe the only coaches that could control him would be the Brands. Now, that said, don't think it would ever happen and after the recent verdict I don't think there is any way any coach goes out on a limb for the near future.

He has to graduate first to be eligible for 1 more season of DI wrestling. So, he could theoretically wrestle for Iowa(or anyone else) without needing a release from ISU.

If he doesn't graduate, then his release will not allow him to go to any school on Iowa State's schedule.

If isu were smart they'd not restrict him to iowa and let him wreck the room for as long as he's around.

He is not eligible to wrestle at another D1 school until he graduates. He is out of undergraduate transfer exemptions (or whatever they call them). PD3 has already commented on-line that this has eliminated PD2 attending another D1 school until at least the second semester next year. In fact, he even suggested online that staying at ISU was not impossible, while blathering in another post that they have offers coming out the wazoo. LOL. Good luck...

You can only transfer once in D1 w/o any big issue if your academics are in order if you transfer a second time you have to sit out a year and he only has 1 year of eligibility remaining.

As a PSU fan it would be great to see PD3 as a Hawk, two years in a row Nickal could deck a guy that Hawk fans were hoping for a victory from. Of course, PD3 would have to actually wrestle in the meet and not sit out...

I'd prefer him to never have any association with the University of Iowa or the HWC

He won't. And no one should want him to. I cringe every time someone says "...IF...he's changed." We already heard the "he's changed" narrative from his camp several times in his career. It isn't happening anytime soon. He is who he is. College isn't for him. Jail might be though.

A Brands corning him isn't the same as an endorsement.

i got the DM this morning. no idea if it has legs and Downey's tweet seemed to indicate that brands cornering him was hogwash.

but then he tweeted "where should i go: Iowa State, Iowa, or Rutgers"

so idk.

PD2 on HR. THAT should be entertaining.

That would be the Cesspool to End All Cesspools!

I don't care what he or his dad says I have serious doubts he wrestles D1 again. And if for some crazy reason he does god help the coach who actually decides to pick that baggage up

What is his association with Wisconsin? He's been hanging out on some farm in WI training with HS kids it seems ever since he left ISU?

Thank you for providing the P$U perspective to the situation. I know that I, as well as the vast majority of wrestling fans world wide anxiously await the P$U perspective on all things wrestling. Heck it doesn't even need to involve P$U for me to want that direction so I know how to think. Thank you for providing this for all of us. It is truly f** to have you chime in on all things, not just the P$U related items. I haven't gone to the P$U site, are the Iowa fans as willing to share there as the f** P$U folks are here? You are raising the level of our wrestling knowledge with every post. I am proposing that we create new rubber bracelets, gone are the "Live Strong" and the "WWJD" ones, replaced with "WWCD" or "Its all f**"

You got your 2's and 3's mixed up.

It all comes down to risk/reward. Sanderson won a championship by letting Long transfer in. Without him they don't win it all. Even with what Long did afterwards it sure doesn't seem like it has hurt them one little bit.

Now, do I really expect to see Downey wrestling for Iowa? No. But, I definitely could see it benefiting you guys if he did.

(I do understand why people don't want him no matter what!)

Long had only been to 1 school and didn't have an extensive rap sheet before he got to PSU like Downey does it's not exactly the same thing even with Longs issues

I know Downey has bounced around but what does his rap sheet look like since above poster implys he has one?

Here's a start. Looks like 17 charges clear back in 2010 when he was 17 and 18.

Star athlete arrested in assault faces other charges in Baltimore
Attorney trying to get cases moved to juvenile court
October 15, 2010|By Don Markus, The Baltimore Sun
A two-time state wrestling champion and star quarterback who was arrested last month for assaulting another North County High School student is set to be tried in December in Baltimore on two previous incidents that also resulted in assault charges.

According to police, James Patrick Downey III of Linthicum Heights assaulted Connor M. Little in a parking lot near M&T Bank Stadium in November 2009 while they were attending the annual "Turkey Bowl" football game between Calvert Hall and Loyola. Downey and former North County teammate Louis Patrick Carey were also charged with assaulting two Navy football players at a Baltimore nightclub last June.

Court records show that Downey's attorney is trying to get the two Baltimore cases moved from Circuit Court back to juvenile court since Downey was 17 at the time of each incident. Motions for a reverse waiver are scheduled Nov. 3, two days after Downey has a preliminary hearing on 17 charges, including first-degree assault, robbery, conspiracy and theft, in Anne Arundel County District Court in a Se[t. 20 inciden

Not to mention getting kicked off Nebraska for fighting, and getting kicked off Iowa State for being a cancer

Eh well it wasn't good. I believe there was 2-3 arrests. His substance problems were nationally known. Not that these two are anywhere close but it was definitely a win at all costs approach.

Yes, New York
Long had at least 3 arrests for drinking (drunk) and was told by coach KJ go to treatment and can wrestle again maybe...But holy Cael came to his aid and took him right in
with nothing done to Long...We all know now how that turned out a year later right.

I'm not saying he didn't have issues that Cael wasn't aware of and I also agree with omahahawk that it was a win at all cost type of move but Downeys baggage is a helluva lot more than what Longs was at that time so why would Cael take that on when at this point he really doesn't need to
