According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Panthers have hired Jim Caldwell as a senior assistant for the 2023 season. He'll work under head coach Frank Reich.

"The #Panthers do what so many others had tried: They hire Jim Caldwell as a senior assistant," Rapoport announced on Tuesday morning.

Caldwell's last coaching stint was with the Dolphins in 2019 as an assistant head coach and quarterbacks coach.

Of course, Caldwell is well known for his time in Detroit and Indianapolis. He has a 62-50 career record with four playoff appearances.

In 2009, Caldwell led the Colts to the Super Bowl. They ultimately fell short to the Saints.

Caldwell received some interest from teams with head-coaching vacancies this offseason. However, he was unable to land one of those marquee jobs.

He was the first black head football coach in the ACC, IIRC, and took Wake to a bowl game which is saying a lot. Great passing offense but they could never run worth shit.
