Caitlin Clark goes woke

Just for starters...Her parents have a freaking gym in their house. She could afford to play on the best AAU travel teams and attend a private high school with good coaches. I believe that's the "privilege" she's referring to. A poor black girl doesn't have those same advantages.

I didn't read through all 6 pages of this BS thread, but I'd also like to add that OP is a moron.

I was with you until this…..

“”” A poor black girl doesn't have those same advantages.”””

To start with, I have mentioned many times her parents wealth was certainly a “privilege” for her, however, as @KFdisciple said she did still have to do the work.

But attributing “poor” to black girls is irritating as hell. There aren’t very damn many kids in the world today of any creed or color that could afford the level of training this girl had.

It’s not a black or white thing and some of us are tired of it only being a “black or white thing“ and I think you can tell by my posting in this very thread. I am very sensitive to the cause, but it is way, way overwrought.

Let’s stop and remember something. By percentages, there obviously is a disparity of poor Black people versus other ethnicities. But let’s not stop and forget, by shear raw numbers there are millions and millions of very poor white people in this very country.

Basketball is a poor sport to single out for the white privilege argument. Maybe golf, tennis, snow sking, etc. In fact, growing up in the inner city playing against the best basketball players in the world was (and is) a great advantage. The playgrounds and YMCAs produced produced most of the game's legends.
That's an interesting point.

It brings to mind Nancy Lieberman who would take 5 subways and spend an hour and change just to get to the now famous Rucker Park. No white privilege there.

Extreme over simplification…. and as long as the universities continue to crack down on those who want to support Jewish protesters, but lift up Palestinian protesters, then yes the universities are a problem. Pretty simple stuff.
It is good you are admitting to being a simpleton.

Self-awareness is step one toward meaningful change..

A'ja Wilson is currently better than CC (as are a few others in the league)

Meh…. i’ll say this, if every player was available for the expansion draft. 22-year-old Caitlin Clark would be taken before every other player in the league including 28-year-old Aja Wilson.

So although your basic premise may be correct, the long-term upside isn’t equal

Ok…. fortunately way smarter people than me have echoed this. So I’m ok with that. And by “way”, I mean a shit ton, of educated, influential and deep thinking folks. So it’s not a new, vague or minority opinion.

It’s well fleshed out

You know you don't have to in every post bring up hard left or radical left people. You're a middle of the road guy, fine, just not sure why the need for every post to talk about the "radical left."

That's kinda the "tell" that we're not really "middle of the road", but we like to claim that to make up for our racist tendencies...

I think a lot of former and current WNBA players honestly believe they’re as good as Caitlin and in their minds, the easiest explanation for why they don’t get the attention she does is racism. As more people recognize her as a generational talent, and more players realize she’s simply on another level, the racial narrative will fade and everyone will be able to appreciate her as a superbly talented basketball player

I have a number of problems with her quote. She says she earned everything that she got but that white privilege does exist. In other words, white privilege doesn’t apply to her-just to other white folks. The worst part that her remarks about black women were extremely condescending. It will be less likely that the “ racial narrative will fade” with feeble narrative such as Clark’s keeping it fed.

The funny thing about white privelw is the idea that if you are unsuccessful as a white person you only have yourself to blame and that no is really going to feel the need to rescue you. There are millions upon millions of white people that are below the poverty line and have everything stacked against them and they are privileged because they are white.

Meanwhile Aja had one of the most privileged upbringing a person can have and she is oppressed because she is black. She doesn't get the attention she deserves because she is black and needs others to raise her up. White people are racist because she doesn't get the love she should be entitled to with her success. Go take a look at who her father is and where she went to school.

Amateur psychiatrist I see. And one who doesn’t think too deeply at that.

Let’s start by the basics, if you are a white man in America, you’re racist.… and we know this because we hear it every night on the news and every time a liberal talking head has a mouthpiece .

As for being called racist…WTH kind of rebuttal is that. Nobody has called me racist in hell I don’t know if ever but certainly not in the last 15-20 years because I generally deal with “sane” people who don’t lump folks into categories and/or make snap judgments, based on your color or who you vote for or where you live.

And about those snap judgements; you don’t have near enough information to make an assessment of what I am or I am not.

Oddly enough, that’s what bigots do… I do so love debate & the written word. People easily and quickly step into hypocrisy.

If there is one topic that just gets the juices flowing for white liberals, it’s the inner desire to bend the knee to others that resent you for being successful. I will never understand it. Self loathing I guess.

I disagree, it’s arrogance, self-importance and self-righteousness. They think black people “need” them and they are the smartest person in the room. This cat @Joes Place is the poster boy.

It’s also why so many minorities are becoming disenchanted with the Democratic Party. They’ve come out of the ether.

Quite frankly Trump never could have been elected on the strength of the white cis male. I mean, let’s be honest of all my friends, clients and associates that I know most likely voted Republican, not very damn many of them even liked Trump and yet this loudmouth egomaniac got elected because there is so much disingenuousness in that “other party”

It’s actually shocking and should make every Dem go WTF?!?! I guess we are out of touch, every minority vote # was up for the evil republicans.

I hate politicians and politics, but I have to confess it literally made me laugh out loud.

⬆️ this is why I still drop by. If you can wade through the cess pool, there is lots of stuff you can find out that is new info. I did not know this

Let’s not pretend that he’s the only “fan” who somewhat soured on Clark based on her apparent left leaning political stance. However, I’m sure her level of popularity will be able to withstand that. 😉

Yes....a league with 25% lesbian players and 75% players who want to have access to birth control to ensure they don't get pregnant mid-season, should obviously fall in lockstep with MAGA conservatives who want to eliminate/restrict rights for both of those groups...

The issue is, that most of them provided a terrible product, which is why W arenas were empty and the ratings were non-existent.

Sounds like an Onion headline:

"WNBA Pushes Terrible Product, Until This One White Girl Shows Up"

However, it's important to note that Travis' claim about 70 percent of WNBA players being lesbian is not backed by any credible source. In fact, a study conducted in 2022 found that approximately 38 percent of WNBA players identified as lesbian.

Man, I hate stating the obvious but holy shit are you typical of the clinically insane that I see on TV?

Absolutely nowhere in his response did he suggest anybody should fall in lock step with MAGA.

And there in lies the “democratic” problem 🥸 in fact more than anything he was being ironic and satirical.

And I see above I’m not the only one that said “what the hell“ when they read the made-up bullshit, you read between the lines

It is a terrible product. It’s 1990s big oriented BB with no dunking and a ton of missed layups. The hand checking rules limit the guard play due to the physical play.

Clark changed things with her style of play. Hopefully they see that the 3 ball game is way more exciting style with women’s BB.

I would bet that every single black WNBA player had access to gyms, played on an AAU team and attended a college of their choice for free.

I would bet not, regarding "a gym in their house" and an AAU team.
Perhaps you could dig up some data for us on that...

It's why I stated "currently".

If you want to win a title next year, you pick A'ja as your #1 right now.

Don’t need to, I’ve got eyes to see and ears to hear

Yes, we can see you like the rightwing propaganda machines.

Lawyers were required to define it; look up explicitly what they said.
In court.

Not what Elno's minions claim "woke" means to them.

Lol. Yeah you & your fellow breitbart posse certainly don’t have the juices flowing do ya? Can’t wait for you to post more hilarious Babylon bee articles since you don’t have the ability to think of anything funny on your own.

So, multi-year league MVP doesn't get the contracts CC does, because...???
That doesn't exhibit a "white privilege" to you?

A'ja certainly wasn't able to build a name off NIL, but there certainly is a race factor here. CC understands this and seems to wish it were not the reality she lives in.

I see your posts with my own eyes.

You feel attacked and "grow tired" of being called "racist" and "privileged". Your words

I've never had anyone make those claims that made me feel like that; seems like you're either entirely too thin-skinned, or you actually are racist but don't want to admit it.

The 2024 rosters, per Google, are 25%.

But they should all vote MAGA and eliminate their right to a same-sex marriage, Amirite?

Sigh….ok, then we will go with the “hyper”-woke on TV and The universities lost the election for the Dems because they F-d up the actual definition and went to far with it….

There’s always an angle 🤷‍♂️
