Caitlin Clark left off the Olympic team

Agreed.. Unfortunately for her, while she's getting pressured at a historic rate, her teammates like to drop wide open passes and miss wide open shots at a rate I've never seen before
There is a reason they had the first pick. Assuming they had one of the worst rosters pre draft.

This. The WNBA is shitting on a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to grow their sport internationally because of pride and petty jealousy.

Clark is smashing attendance and ratings records everywhere she goes. But let’s instead send 58-year-old Diana Taurasi back for her 9th Olympics even though she hasn’t been either first or second team All-WNBA since before the last Olympics.
Honest question here. Does the wnba decide who goes to the Olympics? I've seen a lot of hating on the wnba for leaving Clark off the team. I assumed there's a different organization that runs the Olympic team. Maybe the wnba has input though. Or wnba is just a placeholder for women's basketball.

From Google-
The roster is selected by the women's basketball committee. This includes South Carolina coach and former U.S. coach Dawn Staley, LSU assistant Seimone Augustus, Old Dominion coach Delisha Milton-Jones, Connecticut Sun president Jennifer Rizzotti and WNBA head of league operations Bethany Donaphin.

Minnesota Lynx head coach Cheryl Reeve is the coach of the Olympic team, so presumably she has a lot of input. She said she left Clark off the team because she hasn’t been in the trenches with her yet.

Incidentally, Reeve bitched about Clark on Twitter last month when the WNBA streamed Indiana’s preseason opener against Dallas on the league pass but didn’t stream Minnesota/Chicago the same night. She ended her tweet with the hashtags #12teams and #theWismorethanoneplayer.

So, yeah, she’s a little jealous of Clark.

I predict CC will end up on the team. I don't know that it's best for her or the team, but I think social medica as well as the Olympic games tv sponsors spur her inclusion on the final roster.
While this could happen, I think it would just compound the original mistake and make everyone even more resentful of CC.

It would not surprise me if CC put out a statement that praises the players named to the team and notes that she can use the time off to continue learning the game, blah blah blah.

Her go to move in situations like these is always to take the high road and relieve the pressure.

They should remove Page from the team due to injury and then do fan vote to replace her. That would be hilarious

Honestly I think the bigger snub was Hailey Van Lith getting chosen over Clark for the 3v3 team. Did the people making this decision not watch Clark dominate HVL the last two times they played? Just imagine how good Clark could be in a wide-open format like that.

HVL plays a lot of 3 on 3…something she focuses on. I do not recall Caitlin ever playing,

Right. I mean, she was the number 1 pick which means she went to the worst team. It's going to take some time. Maybe a couple years.

I’m simply pointing out that Phoenix was even worse than Indiana last year but for some reason two players from that team are heading to the Olympics.
My guess is for the experience, "leadership" and height. I too would have been excited to see Clark on the team, but this isn't a great injustice and it's silly to try to feed into the outrage. Everything will be fine for CC and women's basketball.

It’s not about “outrage’, it’s complete stupidity on display once again by the WNBA. Just take this board as an example. How many WNBA threads have there been pre CC vs post CC. There is no logical defense for her to not be on the team.

I don’t recall Clark playing 3v3 either, but I’d bet the deed to my house that Clark would be much better than HVL.

Then it would be up to her to show some interest in that version of the sport, The four ladies on the 3x3 team have been representing the US in international competition for years

The Olympics
Is politics. I've actually known a couple guys that went to the Olympics or tried out and didn't make it with BMX. I'm an old school BMX'er not a fan of the Olympics. Not a fan of BMX in the Olympics. I think it happened in 2008. Anyway I know for a fact there's a bunch of screwed up politics involved in this thing. I think BMX racing should be like x-game stuff not Olympics.
I’m with you.

Look at snowboarding. It was clear who the best snowboarder in the world was. He turned in a second run which should have been the highest score in Olympic history. The judges purposely underscored him to make the third heat more “meaningful”

Okay. Perhaps instead of "outrage" you would have been more comfortable with mass sharing of unproductive and uncompromising opinions?

They literally dropped their second most experienced 3x3 player to put Rhyne Howard on the team.

No statements. Don’t feed it.

Who is ever running PR for CC is doing an outstanding job.

Howard still has more experience than Caitlin at 3x3.

For all we know they asked Caitlin if she wanted to go to the 3x3 training camp and she declined.

Hell Caitlin’s replacement point guard at Iowa had more of a chance to make the 3x3 team than Caitlin.

This.

I won't watch it or the mens period.

I remember when the Olympics was amateur athletes. Of course the socialist countries used "professional" athletes they supported and at times had an unfair advantage doing so.

Personally I'd like to hear CC say "I'm a professional athlete so I do not belong in the games" while she stays at home and rests.

Do you also remember when we had segregation in this country? The times they are a changin. Why shouldn’t the best athletes our countries have to offer compete in the Olympics? I’ll hang up and listen.

Perhaps not intentional, but perhaps so:

Never given a real chance to try out — USA Basketball preposterously scheduled her tryout during the Women’s Final Four, when she was leading Iowa to the national title game for a second consecutive season — Clark now has been told by the U.S. national governing body of basketball one simple word: No.

This misleadingly claims "her tryout" was scheduled during NCAAs.

THE tryouts were scheduled then, as I understand it, for ALL of the prospective players.

OMG. Just admit you were wrong
What was I wrong about?

Taurasi attended Olympic tryouts.
Clark did not. There was not a "special tryout" schedule for her, that anyone "intentionally" set when the NCAA tournament was going on.

You're making up conspiracy shit where it doesn't exist.

No doubt CC will take the high road and handle any press with poise. I'm just thinking money(advertising $) might do the talking and end up including CC. I'm not personally upset by her not being on the team, I would just be surprised if it doesn't change. I don't think the official roster has been announced yet by USA Women's Basketball.

The person, who provided the full roster to The Associated Press, spoke on condition of anonymity Saturday because no official announcement has been made.

I agree with all this. They will find a way to get her on the team.
