Championship Officiating

Iowa was the only team that got a bench warning in the game. A game where this happened during live play. As a reminder, Fran was ejected and suspended for contacting a ref that walked into him during a timeout. Kim walked onto the court then was hand fighting the ref trying to get her off the court. That would be a 5 game Suspension for Fran.

The officiating did NOT ultimately cost the Hawkeyes the game. It was a good season but don’t sully the season by crying about the refs. Just Stop !
How can you know? The best player in the country was either on the bench or having to play a different kind of basketball because she found herself inexplicably in foul trouble based on some absolutely horse shit calls.

We had it to 8 with about 4:00 left in the third. We were never able to get over the hump, partly because LSU played lights out, partly because we played poorly, but also partly because the refs were historically atrocious.

LSU played better the 4th quarter, there's no denying that.

But we had all the momentum in the 3rd quarter and they injected themselves in the most egregious manner I have ever seen.

It should not have been a double digit deficit going into the 4th...

LSU made the shots and won the game, nobody is denying that. But you can’t deny this was a horribly officiated game that did have a HUGE impact on the outcome of the game. To come on here and make that post tell us you either didn’t watch the game, an LSU fan, or just plain stupid.

We had 2 foul out and our star with 4 fouls because of bogus calls. Is it surprising we didn't play well?

We literally had to stop playing defense, going for loose balls and rebounds in the 2nd half. The refs absolutely decided the game. LSU may have won otherwise but to argue the refs didn't make it impossible for us to comeback is braindead.

I mean credit to LSU for making all those shots that they did. They shot lights out, can’t take away from that. But WOW! To think the NCAA ruined the integrity of the championship game because they wanna be woke instead of putting a crew together based on merit.

Exactly. In most cases you can say pretty confidently that the refs didn’t determine the outcome. In this one, it was so incredibly awful, you can’t.

If you think the way the game started with 6 fouls to 0 and how it was called didnt effect how Iowa could play d or operate on offense could not have changed the outcome your are about as rational as Mulkey.

The 1st quarter hasn't even ended and the entire arena is booing the officiating. So ridiculous on both sides. I even found myself yelling at my TV when they called some of the fouls on LSU!
Absolute worst championship game officiating on both sides and terribly inconsistent. Someone should find out who decides the selection of refs and they should be shit canned.

I haven't even looked at the total amount of fouls calls yet. Anyone look yet? I'm afraid to

They definitely had an impact on the outcome. Surely, you'll admit that.

She did again to her even more enthusiastically as they were walking off court. Such a low class move, not a good look for her at all
It’s not surprising. She has issues. Completely self-absorbed and extremely immature. Frankly, I expected her to behave exactly this way if they won. LSU should be embarrassed, but of course they won’t be. Look at how their coach acts, for crying out loud. Not exactly a classy institution.

I wonder how many calls/emails the NCAA gets tomorrow about this officiating
It doesn't matter. The officiating crises has already been an on-going issue and will only get worse. I don't blame refs either. They're stupid idiotic everyday humans like the rest of us in no win situations. It's a hard job too. Refs are worse now because nobody wants the job any longer. They'll reprimand these refs and get even worse ones in their place.

Go on Twitter, majority from all over the country are saying the game was tainted by officiating. It’s not about winning or losing, it’s about fairness to the players and the fans. It isn’t just this game either, officiating is making college basketball tough to watch. They, the NCAA, must do better.

Sadly, the NCAA is a completely inept organization. They’re incapable of doing better.

Don't know if true but you decide after what we just witnessed.

It was a good season and a great win against South Carolina. Nothing to be ashamed of and those girls should be proud of their season. Don’t mar the season with incessant whining about the refs who didn’t have their best day but it is what it is. Celebrate the season !!!

This!

As bad as the refs were, LSU just played better today, and today was the day it counted. There was no way to guess Carson could do what she did, and Reece is just a load under the basket. We scored 85 points which would usually be enough, but they made the shots South Carolina couldn't.
A great year for the hawkeye women and I'm pumped for next year.

“Didn’t have their best day”. Possibly the understatement of the millennium.

I just think it's too subjective. And it's a problem that may never get fixed because it's just really difficult to do. We all see it on TV as opposed to them on the court. Though I do think today is a great example of when things can really go wrong.
