Championship Officiating

Iowa was the only team that got a bench warning in the game. A game where this happened during live play. As a reminder, Fran was ejected and suspended for contacting a ref that walked into him during a timeout. Kim walked onto the court then was hand fighting the ref trying to get her off the court. That would be a 5 game Suspension for Fran.

Unbelievable

I mean credit to LSU for making all those shots that they did. They shot lights out, can’t take away from that. But WOW! To think the NCAA ruined the integrity of the championship game because they wanna be woke instead of putting a crew together based on merit.
This.
Everything has been ruined now because of being afraid someone will b!tch about getting their toes stepped on. Society has become such a joke

A here is a Bluder comment that says it all>>>>>>>>>I can’t comment on the officials," Iowa coach Lisa Bluder said. "It’s very frustrating because I didn’t even feel like I could talk to them. That’s what’s frustrating is it didn’t even feel like there was a conversation to be had

Funny — Sequin Kim didn’t seem to have any problems carrying on conversations with the refs….

How can you know? The best player in the country was either on the bench or having to play a different kind of basketball because she found herself inexplicably in foul trouble based on some absolutely horse shit calls.

We had it to 8 with about 4:00 left in the third. We were never able to get over the hump, partly because LSU played lights out, partly because we played poorly, but also partly because the refs were historically
Refs took it back over at that point, just like to start the game.
Disgusting.

LSU played lights out. They were the better team. After watching them vs SC I’m not sure how SC didn’t lose by 24.

The unfulfilling part as an Iowa fan was the officiating. Particularly towards CC. The first foul was probably a foul. Many times is no call. Foul two, at best a 50/50 call, on the margins where neither player gained an advantage. It’s a no call 90% of the time.

Foul 3 was even less of a margins call and again the LSU player was riding CC. I was “suspicious” at this point.

Two non-driving offensive foul calls against the POY in a NCG game just don’t happen. Especially after a marginal first foul.

Then the most bogus T you will ever see. Again, in the Natty against the POY. Are you effing kidding me??

I do think that we just saw an extraordinarily incompetent crew of referees who were way in over their heads. That said, if you were an unscrupulous referee, this would be an easy game to influence. Just take the player of the year out of the game with some marginal foul calls and presto.

The national supervisor of officiating submitted 11 officials to the NCAA. 3/ game plus two alternates. Someone picked the officials for each game. Dee Kantner is one of the best officials in the womens game. It was a travesty she was not in the final. I know she is 62 and probably towards the end of her career. But the officials in the game were over their head and appeared to lose control at one point. I am not saying Iowa would have won(LSU shot lights out). But the officials screwed up the game.

Who are these officials? Where do they come from? What are their qualifications for officiating a national championship game? Is the NCAA competent in any area?

Just because Iowa likely loses either way doesn't mean that people can't call out the worst officiated game in the history of basketball.
No. No.

Iowa doesn’t lose either way.

If the game is called evenly, & LSU plays out of their asses (like tonight), Iowa wins by 5-10 points.

If the game is called evenly, & LSU plays like normal, Iowa wins by 15-20 points.

The refs screwed Iowa so bad that I was impressed by how much better we were than them!

In most cases I feel this is true but with CC on your team you never know. She is like MJ imo. We were within 7 in the 3rd quarter I believe when the bs technical was called.
Sure but the terrible calls went both ways. Tough to say, but the game was mostly decided by LSU getting hot from the field.

Lol, ok. I'm sure you didn't notice all of the calls that went against LSU as well.

Lmfao!!!

I’m an official that does top level high school b-ball & even a few Colorado State men’s scrimmages!!!

And I’m embarrassed to say that this is my 2nd profession after these ladies’ performances.

So ya, brah. I’ve got the qualifications to call this garbage out!

And I rarely say anything about the officials.

Iowa got straight up screwed!

I'll take your word for that one, before my time. This was the worst in my lifetime.
Oh, if you want to get pissed off, Cold War style, you need to read about it. This wasn’t inept officials, it was straight up corrupt in game officials in conjunction with corrupt FIBA officials on the appeal jury. The USA silver medals are still sitting in a safe in Switzerland waiting for our team to accept them 51 years later. That will never happen. Some members of the team put it into their wills that no descendents of theirs are ever allowed to accept the medals.

No one's arguing that it wasn't one of the worst officiated games of all time. Saying it was the reason Iowa lost in a game LSU was making everything and Iowa gave up 102 is just typical homer one-sidedness.

Once again, someone other than the players determined the games’s outcome? WHY are these people not held accountable??? Seemed pretty obvious wokeness is alive and well. Buy the refs, NCAA wi

They need to make a movie about this

I think the lead was closer to 11 or so at that point, but the game was still in doubt.
No doubt. 9 point game, with a minute or so left in the third quarter, and then CC has to sit with 4 fouls. If no tech there, no free points and changes how you play defense in the fourth. And by the way, you know who was also down 9 to start the 4th quarter and ended up winning? LSU in their prior game. It was a massive call at the absolute worst time.

Should fouling out be eliminated? Perhaps a different penalty for a sixth plus foul such as two shots and the ball.

For what it's worth as OP of this post...I hate bringing refs into the discussion. But it seems necessary here. It's hard to ignore. These aren't sour grapes, this is calling out something clearly obvious.
As always

Social media and just random sports fans in general are all frustrated over the classless actions of Angel. Now with NIL being a thing, her attitude and smugness could cost her a potential deal or two. Who would want her as the face of your company?

I hope that pic of her flipping people off walking into the stadium goes viral and she’s cancelled. Not a fan of cancel culture but this b***** deserves it.

Nope. Corrupt. It was apparent.

It's ok man, I know it hurts right now but it'll get better. I promise. I'll let you pretend Iowa wins with different refs if it helps you sleep better tonight.
Not picking on you necessarily, but it amazes me how no sport compares to basketball with fans that don’t know the game.

The one thing that simply cannot be understated is the Lady Hawks seldom got meaningful production from the bench...for much of the season.

It was a 5/6 player team all year.
