Championship Officiating

Iowa was the only team that got a bench warning in the game. A game where this happened during live play. As a reminder, Fran was ejected and suspended for contacting a ref that walked into him during a timeout. Kim walked onto the court then was hand fighting the ref trying to get her off the court. That would be a 5 game Suspension for Fran.

And as I posted elsewhere, I think when Cziano(?) fouled out, Mulkey was down the court 3 feet from the coaches box. It just happened to be IOWA coaches box. Probably 15-20 feet our of her box. How can you not call that?

I haven't read the rest of the thread so maybe this has been talked about, but what bothers me the most in both the men's and women's college game is the totally lack of consistency in calling/allowing hand checking, reaches and arm bars. The advantage that it gives a defense to be able to stop the dribble drives with these tactics is immeasurable. The so-called "physical" teams do this repeatedly because it is taught and they dare the referees to call it. Neither Fran nor Bluder teach this type of defense and when they get into the types of games they are always at a disadvantage.

As a male, if I was officiating NCAA college women's basketball, I would seriously look into switching to the men's game. I get that it's a Title IX anniversary game, but there are ways to elevate underserved communities within officiating without artificially limiting your talent pool for the most important games of the year.

Would be interesting if one of the male officials sued the ncaa. Fairly easy lawsuit as title 9 actually doesn't favor one gender in how it is written. Blatant gender discrimination and publishing that they are doing it for gender reasons.

Would be really ironic.

Of course they didn't specifically say that's what they did, but it seems pretty obvious from the way they announced it publicly. A lawsuit would be career suicide, so I think that's highly unlikely. Even setting that aside, I thought there were other female officials who did great work in the early rounds of the tournament, but did not advance.

The last several men's coordinators have been pretty clear about who advances. Getting calls right is very important, but you also need to be able to handle the moment, and not let the game be too big for you. That's why we always see a healthy dose of Higgins, Shows, Oglesby, etc. Those guys aren't just good officials, they are good game managers who can handle tough personalities and understand the real-time situations within the game (fouls on key players, stopping potential unsporting acts before things get too crazy, etc.).

you have no idea what happens if the refs don't RACK up the fouls early and often against 3 of Iowa's top players....don't a fool....
Yep and neither do you or Rocky Mountain Hawk. Based on the actual game that we saw played on the court, however, it isn't likely the Hawks win either way. We obviously don't know for sure.

Once again you are clueless as how the refs effected this game from minute 1...but keep smoking whatever you are smoking

The interesting fact for you to ponder is the referees also contributed to LSU bringing in the leading scorer off the bench because of two early fouls on two LSU starters. What if she had not come off the bench and gotten hot when she did giving her a bunch of confidence. All of her threes came in the first half. Carson was an early season starter that had been relegated to the bench. After the half and her barrage of threes she rode the bench for most of the second half. Would she have played the amount she did without Reese having two fouls? Fouls changed the dynamic of the game from several angles.
Poor officiating does affect games.

Yep, lot of what ifs. You can go back and replay a million different scenarios in your head if you want. Refs were terrible which obviously impacted the games for both teams, not denying that. At the end of the day Iowa still gave up 102.

Ever stop to think that when the best players on Iowa team have been put into foul trouble over bullshit they need to defend differently? That might have more to do with that 102 than anything else

The entire country by the way is calling out the officials. Not iowa fans....everyone that isn't an lsu fan has called the officials bullshit

Maybe go back and read my previous posts. I said it was the worst officiated game of all time.
