From those pics, the curds. Rings can be better than curds though. With that being said, the best curds are better than the best rings.
I would say though that my favorite fried food is calamari.
Why hasn't anyone figured out an onion ring with a cheese curd filling the center?
Alas, unless we are talking about onion ringz food product, this would be impossible. We must carry on and make due with jalapeño poppers

If I'm getting rings at a restaurant, that is my hope and dream as to what they will look like. Too many of them look like those pictured in the OP, which look like CISCO frozen crap from a bag.
I like onion rings, but there are very few things in this world I would rather have than a really good cheese curd.

I think more people like cheese than onions. They have medications for people that real cheese will make them have hard diarrhea
I only read your first sentence before deciding you were wrong and needed to be corrected.
I don’t eat dairy so went with onion rings. IMHO nothing beats really good fried mushrooms though.
Probably just need a place that knows what they’re doing. I build a tater tot casserole probably once a month and it’s damn delicious.
