I would say it’s compartmentalization. Nebraska fans can be pieces of shit when it comes to football, but otherwise ordinarily they are decent, productive people. Most MAGAS are the same. A fair percentage are nasty bigots. Most Are simply aggressively ignorant and misinformed when it come to politics.

When you say really, really stupid shit like you just did, it can be difficult to not consider you to be a really, really stupid person. I have to draw on my personal experience that this isn’t really the case to avoid the knee jerk reaction, and I’m not always disciplined enough to do it. Nor are most of us.

But given the depths that Trump and his supporters have gone to into order to subvert our democratic processes, it is ironic that you would have such an emotional (and irrational) response to Cheney, then act surprised when people have the same response to you.

Go ahead and vote for Trump because you’re okay with his massive faults so long as he pursues a conservative agenda. But if you also demonize everyone who is critical of him, you should be prepared for people to assume that you are a bad person. Because you’re acting like one.
