"There is just so much substance to him." said Joe Henricksen, who's been an Illinois basketball authority for 25 years as publisher of the City/Suburban Hoops report. "He is a coach’s dream, as far as coachability, as far as what he means to your team as a leader. All the intangibles are there. And he's a winner."

"People are too hung up maybe on the lack of flash," Henricksen said. "He’s not a big-time athlete. But he’s bigger now, he’s 6-2 — legit. He’s strong and he knows how to play. He’s got a poise and patience at a position where you need it, while still being able to play at a pretty fast pace. So he just knows how to play. He gets it.

"He just has so much to him. I think he’s going to adapt quickly. I think Iowa has done a good job of targeting guys like him, and I think he’s better than the national people or the rankings would suggest."

Ulis needs to continue to improve his 3-point shot. But there's nothing wrong with his mechanics, Henricksen said; it's about repetition now.

"Instincts are hard to get better. Feet are hard to get better. Passing is hard to get better," Henricksen said. "But shooting-wise, more or less, if people are going to put in the time and their mechanics aren’t too flawed, they’re going to be just fine."

Very nice article on Ahron. I don't expect big things from him right away but I think Ahron is a guy the staff can develop and turn into a great player by his junior year if not sooner.

Really like Ahron Ulis' Highlights and think he will be a really nice fit at Iowa. I think he will help with the full court press. Saw this on Black Heart Gold Pants site:
Workout with NBA Guard Tyler Ulis & Ahron Ulis

Nice video, the brothers have the same shooting stroke.. Now if Ahron can finish with his left at the rim like big bro looks like his danger level goes up a few notches!

Are we going to keep him for sure ? I'm just afraid a Kentucky will come in at last minute and swoop him in.

I looked at his current list of suitors and it’s an ok list but it’s not a Kentucky poach a kid list no matter who his brother is & it seems like Iowa was a no brainer for him, I think we are safe.. Now if he really super blows up his senior year then that may change some things...

If it happens after he signs it doesn't matter.

If he signs in November we just have to worry about a super-super blow up right? Didn't they change the rule that players can now go straight from HS to the NBA?:)

Can't wait to see how all the new guards look! Fredrick, Toussaint, Bakari, and now Ulis.

I agree. A fun and interesting mix. A lot of young good pieces this year. The reason I like college basketball so much more than the pros is watching the young talent grow individually as well as within the team concept.

There could potentially be a 2PG starting lineup for the foreseeable future.
This is what I foresee, with the ability to also play more traditional shooting guards at the 2. And although these guards are not tall, they all are strong enough to defend at the bucket against most guards in the B1G. Speed has killed Iowa in the past but that seems to be a trend that could be ending.

Also note that Ahron definitely looks 6’2”, and JoeT has been noted as being 6’-6’1”- not his listed 5’11”. CJ has certainly gained the muscle weight to hold his own.

I’m stoked to have Ahron on board here, I think he’s got a pretty high ceiling with great potential. Nice to hear the positive comments from the coach that’s close to him and understands his character and work ethic. Things are looking up for the future!

Its a good high profile basketball family in a great recruiting area. Barring injuries and assuming Jordan plays in 20-21 Ahron will have two more years to work on his game and athleticism.

Unless he's on fire to play right away, even if its only 100 minutes or so, what a luxury-getting to RS a guy that may not be great right away but improves with maturity and experience.

Gotta share Hawk _it's enthusiasm for the new guards. I think we're going to really like the Joey and CJ backcourt in a couple of years, and it looks like there'll be some depth as well.

It won’t take him 2 years.

I beg to differ ;)
