Nothing has changed apparently with CJ's leg issues.
Maybe the Hawks dodged a bullet.

Im gna take a guess that kentucky won’t be the last college team he suits up for
No way he's getting a Porsche. Maybe a vespa if he can stay healthy.CJ should have negotiated for a new Porsche.![]()
CJ should have got a guaranteed scholarship for a masters program. Its ok because Cal was always focused on CJ getting an education even if he never gets healthy. I wonder if Cal has deleted Joe F. from his contacts?
Wolf in sheep’s clothing.CJ seemed like a good kid. No ill will here. I hope he gets healthy and does well for himself.
Nah. Players transfer all the time. Nunge was a much bigger loss than CJ. CJ"s game was always overrated IMO. No rebounds, few assists, average defender, bad free throw shooter, and a single digit scorer. Everyone swooned because of his 3 point shooting which was excellent but he shot very little so it didn't matter much. It was more important last year with Cmac on the floor a lot. Otherwise Luka was triple teamed instead of double teamed all the time.Wolf in sheep’s clothing.
Well I personally don't know the young man. BUT, I was raised that actions speak louder then words, and that shit he and his uncle pulled on Fran, was NOT something "a good kid" does. Sorry, but its just not.....Fran has been gracious with EVERY player thats left on good terms, but that smoke show put on by the Fredricks clan was a low blow, and to someone who was supposed to be a good friend of the family to boot.....CJ seemed like a good kid. No ill will here. I hope he gets healthy and does well for himself.
Just a kid. No big loss anyway.Well I personally don't know the young man. What in the name of all thats holy, does that have to do with anything? We weren't talking about who was a bigger loss, or who was over rated. Nunge was straight with Fran, and Fran treated him accordingly. Frans reaction when CJ left was all I would need to hear that he had been lied to and betrayed......Nah. Players transfer all the time. I just think fans overreact to everything. He's a 21 year old kid. What did he say to Fran that was a lie? What were his words? What guidance was he getting from the people advising him on this issue? You have no idea what all the details surrounding this were and yet you act like you were in the room. Do you think every kid in the portal has some feel-good heart to heart before he leaves. Pretty naive if you do.What in the name of all thats holy, does that have to do with anything? What records? The records over the past two seasons would indicate that this is completely untrue.
What records?
The first game after Jack got injured in 19-20, Iowa beat Texas Tech and was a top 25 team all year long after a slow start. CJ got injured last year and they went 1-4.What records?

CJ was a role player that averaged 5.5 points, 1 rebound and 2 assists in 25 minutes of play. He became a liability at the free throw line at 67%. The only reason he was missed last year was because Iowa ran everything through Luka and without CJ there was no one else that drew defenders out as long CMac was in and JBo was out. That won't be the case this year. Nunge was the best rebounder and low post defender on the team last year. He would be filling that role this year had he stayed. CJ would be just another guy that was more likely to disappear than anything else in any given game.If you’ll also recall in the 2019-20 season, CJ missed the @Nebraska game and Iowa lost. Followed by missing Maryland, which Iowa won.
Later in that season CJ was injured in the Indiana game (1st time in back to back seasons). Iowa went on to lose to IU, beat a .500 Gopher squad 58-55, beat OSU, and then lost to MSU before CJ returned.
As you pointed out, the following season 2020-21, CJ was hurt in the IU game again. Iowa went on to lose four of its next five without him.
CJ was definitely missed in these games.

Just a refresher. During the season there were reports that "Uncle Joe" had been discussing CJ taking his gym bag to Kentucky. Lots of smoke on this including Uncle Joe posting online about CJ transferring. Any talks between CJ or his people and another school would be a violation. CJ is of course injured and has surgery after the season. As they get ready to start practicing off season workouts Fran has a presser. He and CJ had just spoken and both were excited that he was close to 100% and had been cleared to resume workouts with the team. All was good. Just a day or so later came the news that CJ was entering the transfer portal. It's very obvious that FRan was totally blindsided. Go back and read any of the transcripts when Nunge or Moss left. Fran wished them well in their futures and thanked them for everything they had put into the program. So after CJ announced he was leaving, Frans comments were. Yes CJ is transferring, he's gone. Thats it! No good wishes, no thanks, just he's gone. Now remember Fran had ties to CJ's family. Uncle Joe starred at Notre Dame when Fran was an assistant there under Digger Phelps. I think Joe and Margeret were classmates. When CJ was in high school he had NO D1 offers to speak of. Uncle Joe put Fran onto CJ and he checked him out. Thought he would be a good fit. Now Iowa didn't have an open scholorship, so he told CJ if he would walk on , he would get him one the following year. Now somebody left, (and I'm not sure who it was) but he got the scholorship right away. Comes in and plays right away. He ends up as a soph with a starting spot but can't stay on the court. Fran gives him every chance to keep his spot whenever he is healthy enough to play. Fran wanted a bigger role for CJ and even chastised him for not shooting more and hunting his shot more. In the end we get the cloak and dagger, and Fran clearly has NO idea that CJ is about to hit the door. He enters the portal, and POOF he's picked up by Kentucky, even though everyone on his side swears they had no talks with the Calaperi, ( one of the truly classless liars and cheats in all of college basketball). So what do you believe? All the smoke about this during the season, and then bam he ends up at Kentucky, or it just happened? Really?I just think fans overreact to everything. He's a 21 year old kid. The numbers were from last year.. I mistyped the ppg. It was 7.5, 2 assists and 1 rebound getting starter minutes. BFD. Hardly irreplaceable. Never more than a role player.Where exactly did you get your numbers? CJ averaged 10 points a game his FR season and 7.5 ppg (7.5 ppg in conf) during his SO year. Yeah CJ was a role player. You think Nunge wasn’t? Everyone was a role player behind Luka except for Wieskamp and there were several games where Joe didn’t get the memo that he wasn’t a role player. CJ was a sophomore playing with the best basketball player in the country. Every play ran through Luka.
CJ was a career 75% FT shooter and that number dipped quite a bit when he shot 58% in conf play last year while playing injured. To say CJ was a “bad” FT shooter is incorrect.
Nunge averaged 1.4 assists in conference play last year and 1.0 TOs. In the same time, CJ averaged 1.8 assists and .1 TOs. Of course CJ shot 49% from three in conference play compared to 34% from Nunge (CMac who most would agree can’t shoot, hit 31%).
CJ played in 52 games and started everyone of them. Many of them playing injured. To pretend that he won’t be missed for his JR and SR seasons is crazy. Comparing CJ to Nunge is also somewhat crazy as they’re two completely different players. I can only look what happened when both of them missed games with injuries and Iowa was a worse off by great deal when CJ was out.

On a per 40 basis Nunge had 18 pts, 13 rebounds, 3 blocks, and 3 assists. His rebound numbers were best on the team and he shot 83% from the line which was second on the team. By comparison, on a per 40 CJ had 12 pts, 2 rebounds, 0 blocks, and 3 assists. He shot a better EFG% (59% to 50%) but his 67% FT% was 3rd worst on the team. It got even worse at 58% in conference play. The only saving grace was he never got fouled because he never did anything with the ball. There were games where he couldn't get rid of it fast enough. The guy had a knack for disappearing. In his last 17 games he scored in double figures a total of 2 times!!
Like I said, Nunge would be invaluable this year. CJ would be a nice to have but seriously he'll be barely missed.
Turnovers were at times a problem but at 2.3 per 40 he was only .4 more than Weiskamp, Bohannon and Garza who were all at 1.9. They were both role players. Nunge just brought more to the party and would be much more valuable this year with Garza gone. The last 17 games weren't exactly an anomaly for Frederick either. He only scored in double figures 6 times the entire season. He couldn't create his own shot and he had trouble getting it off. What good is a great shooter that doesn't score? That's the problem with JBo sometimes too.I noticed you conveniently left out turn overs per 40.
The last 17 games……. You mean on days when he woke up he didn’t even know if he’d be able to play or not? Those last 17 games.
You act like Nunge wasn’t a role player too.
