Coleman Hawkins Heading to Kansas State in what’s believed to be the Most Lucrative College Basketball NIL deal ($2 million)

Arkansas seems to sucking up players again.

It must be nice for Arkansas to have alumni like Jerry Jones (the billionaire owner of the Dallas Cowboys). Walmart, of course, is also based in Arkansas (not sure how involved their family members are).

Word is that Cal is tight with Tyson family and they will bankroll hogs BB NIL program.

You are not sure how involved the Waltons are with a team that plays its basketball games in a stadium named Bud Walton Arena?

but are they donating millions to acquire talent for the football and men's basketball teams?

No idea…

Above are the posts regarding how Arkansas is acquiring players through pay to play.

* I simply replied to Ron, stating that I was not sure how involved the Walton family was when it came to paying players.

* HawkJT made a great point regarding the Tyson family.

Zach,

You jumped on me, clearly implying (as everyone can see in your post above) that the Walton family was involved in NIL and acquiring football and men's basketball talent.

And now you are saying you have "no idea' if the family is involved.

So, which is it?

You asked if they were involved… I gave you the name of the Arena…that was it…then you flipped to a more specific question of involvement…and I responded with an honest I have no clue.

What a weird statement/dig. Making a statement like that, you might as well include all conferences outside of the SEC since it's obvious what he's referring to. Why only have a dig for the B1G and Big East...who isn't even a football conference anymore I don't believe.
As an Illini fan who’s relatively familiar with Coleman’s (IMO) funny personality, it seems clear to me that his comment about rivalries excluded another Big Ten school and his comment about enjoying a football game excluded any Big East school, but the two comments were separate and exclusive to each conference.

Love Coleman and wish him the best. He gave us his all and hung multiple Big Ten banners in his four years, and I’m glad it ended in an Elite Eight (the one breakthrough we’d been lacking). I think he’s a great player, and I was bummed his feedback from the NBA must have been subpar.

$350-500k tops. Hawkins has a mixture of size and athleticism that none of these guys possess.

So, as pay for play continues to spiral out of control, how does Iowa MBB compete for high end high school players and transfer portal players? We can pay players to volunteer but SWARM is using all of the big donor money for football.

Ughhhhhhh....

We need to get a big donor that loves basketball.

2 million dollars for Coleman Shelton lol. jfc
1. I have no idea how the deal is structured but I doubt it's an up front check in the amount of $2M. He may earn close to that by the end of the season. He may earn significantly less.

2. I picture you writing that post from the rotting front seat of your 2008 Chevy mini van. It's not your money they're paying him with. Why do you care? lol

Damn, did he put his nuts in your guts or something because clearly you care a lot more than I do

So you think all three players declined significantly more money for the privilege of playing for Fran/Iowa?

You don’t think they could command at least what Tony Perkins is earning?

I don’t believe any of them seriously shopped around but it’s certainly possible.

And..I never said they declined anything. I was just speculating on what they might command in the open market.

I honestly have no idea what any of them did or didn't do as far as shopping themselves around. I have no personal connection or insight w/r/t any of them. I just thought someone else here might.

Interesting phrase. I don't quite know what it means but it sounds trashy and vulgar and not worth responding to.

As far as caring about Hawkins' deal...I'm not the one claiming to know more than the coaching staff at Kansas State (and the market in general) what he's "worth." You are. I'm fine with whatever he did or didn't get. It doesn't affect my life in any way whatsoever.

The tone of your post suggested to me that you're likely one of those people who are permanently offended at how much more money some people have than they do. I find those people funny. That's all.

If you're not that guy, you're not that guy. My mistake. Good on ya, mate.

Yea I don't really care about NIL one way or the other.. just don't think he's that good and he's kind of a douche. Should fit right in on KState

They didn't return for the $$$, which I'm sure would have been a lot more if the sought it.
Since it has been discussed, does anyone actually know approximately how much money Iowa BB players are getting from NIL? I don't know anything, but get the impression from discussions that no one is getting a 6-figure amount.

You don't think a guy like Freeman, the Big Ten Freshman of the year who is only going to get way better wouldn't command at least 750K to a million somewhere? I mean Hawkins is a really nice player but if he's worth that Freeman is clearly worth half that and has 2-3 more years left to play.

I still can't believe someone paid $2M for Hawkins. Very good player, but not the best player in the portal. Size, versatility, but not consistent at making the smart play.
