Congrats to Iowa State

You are seriously pumping up Nebraska? I know it's your biggest win this year after an amazing 5 first down performance but let's not forget the longest bowl drought of all power 5 teams! Lol.

You’re talking down about them when they demolished one of your conferences top teams…follow along bud, I’m pointing out how bad the Big 12 is…be thankful whatever crazy tiebreaker somehow went Iowa states way even when they didn’t have to play asu Colorado or BYU. Everyone knows it should be Colorado vs ASU. Either way that playoff game gonna be uglyyyyy for ASU.

Obviously this is a joke.

Iowa State isn’t even close to the best team in the state.

They’ll probably end up as the best team in their conference though.

Which is nice.
Thanks, and congrats on your 5th place finish playing one ranked team with nearly your entire team coming back! Will probably be your best showing for decades to come - #special season.

You played in a water downed Big12 that is more like the MAC conference so I would get too cocky. Go Sun Devils!!

It was a good year of football in the state of Iowa. I’m excited to go to the b12 championship and a couple of bowl games (hopefully more).

Weird that people here don’t realize Campbell is almost a carbon copy of Ferentz. He is conservative as hell, he just doesn’t have as good of special teams and his offense is more prolific because it’s not designed as run first. His 3-3-5 is the epitome of bend but don’t break.

Iowa State fans really don’t understand what’s coming their way with NIL, it will take a little time but just enjoy it while it lasts
Iowa State will be fine. Anything they are are subjected to, so will their competition. They are in a good place to compete for championships and playoff appearances annually and that will help with their recruiting.

Why not? It would be nice for the state of Iowa to have one of its two major college teams in the playoffs during our lifetime. When the hell is Iowa ever going to do it or even capable of getting a sniff at it? Besides, Iowa had their chance of keeping Iowa State from the playoffs when they blew it with the incompetence.
Iowa State has been extremely lucky this season. Their best win is arguably against 8-4 Iowa.

Their Big 12 strength of schedule was garbage this year. No Colorado, no BYU and no ASU in the regular season. Best win was at Iowa, yes. And isn’t it funny and depressing at the same time to use Colorado, BYU and ASU as a measuring stick for conference dominance? 🤣 Damn the Big 12 is bad.

In seriousness though, the Texas schools and Ok State have a ton of money and won’t be down long. If ever there was a year for an Iowa State to make noise, this is it.

But isn't a little part of you kind of jealous that ISU appears to be in a stronger position to make the CFP going forward than Iowa?

Yep. Not only do they play in a complete joke of a conference, they conveniently didn't have to play any of the other 3 teams with 2 losses that were in contention for the powder puff championship game.

The stars certainly aligned for the hayseeds in 2024

This is the most injured Iowa State team I’ve ever seen. Over 100 players got on the field. We had true freshman walk ons playing meaningful snaps.

The schedule aligned but this wasn’t an easy road for them that’s for sure.

Not at all. The B1G will typically get 4 teams in, whereas the Big 12 will only get 1, the conference champion. It won’t happen every year, but I’m confident Iowa can occasionally compete for one of those spots. Will all depend on the next coaching hire.

Iowa State was fortunate to not play anyone except Iowa at Kinnick this season. They likely won’t be as fortunate in years to follow. While I agree the path to competing for a Big 12 conference championship is easier for Iowa State than it is Iowa winning a B1G championship, I firmly believe no Big 12 team will ever win a national championship under the current format. The fact is, the Big 12 is a shell of what it once was and will continue to resemble a glorified MAC conference as the years go by.

Sports Page - Iowa State wins Big VIII Championship...

The Iowa offense lacked a passing game against ISU just as it has all year. That's why they lost to ISU and why they would in all likelihood lose again. You simply can't win consistently in big boy football today with a team that can't throw the ball.

ISU struggles to stop running QB’s and would have likely struggled greatly against Sullivan but the game was played and ISU won. Hats off to them. They deserved it. They find ways to win.

You have a point. ISU can't get in without winning it's CCG. Winning at Iowa does nothing to help a teams prestige on the national stage. Time for ISU to drop this game and schedule better teams in the non conference!
You’re gonna have to play top non-con teams…..cause your strength-of-schedule playing St Joe’s School of Visually Challenged & other teams in your conference won’t do you any favors! 🤣 🤡

Nah…..it doesn’t take us 125+ years to win 10 games.

You’re probably right, no Big 12 team will likely win the natty. Over the last 20 years it’s Big 12 1, Big 10 2, ACC 3, SEC 14.

It’s going to be extremely hard for any non blueblood to win one and they have all been basically consolidated into two conferences.

I disagree that it’ll be easier for Iowa State than Iowa to make the CFP. Iowa probably will make it most years going 10-2. Iowa State will likely need to go 11-1 or win the conference.

There is only one power conference and it ain’t the B1G. You guys want to lump Iowa/B1G in with the SEC is a joke.
Big10 has 4 top ten teams right now & SEC has 3….so pretty equal at the top this year.

How many Lil12 teams in top 10? 🤣 🤡

I go the other way.

Big 12 should drop to 8 conference games and schedule 4 auto wins in the conference.

SMU went 11-1, losing to BYU. Their best win is what, Pitt? They are rated higher than any Big 12 team. Same with Boise State. Best thing to do in the current format is win as many games as possible, who cares about the schedule.

Iowa State played a team with a running QB yesterday and did just fine.

Doesn’t surprise me that you go the other way…..not that there’s anything wrong with that!

Oregon
Ohio St
Penn St
Michigan
USC

All will probably get cracks at the top of the conference anywhere from 1-3 annually.

Occasionally the following will get in:

Wisconsin
Washington
Mich St
Iowa
Nebraska

They didn't deserve it. It was another Ferentz's conservative run the ball 3 times and gain nothing. All they needed was a first down and it would have been over.

How does the Big 12 tiebreaker work? Assuming BYU wins there would be a 4-way tie for first. ASU is in the championship game against ISU, but if BYU loses then it would be Colorado vs ASU. It’s not a head-to-head thing. 1st was head to head. None of the 4 played each other. 2nd was record against conference common foe. ASU 4-0 (IN), BYU and ISU 3-1, CU 2-2 (OUT). 3rd SOS within conference. ISU over BYU.

4th tiebreaker gets sketchy....# times the team and staff banged OPs mom.

What're the odds Campbell bolts if Ohio St. fires Day? hmmmm....

Thanks for the info. I knew the head-to-head was irrelevant in this instance, but didn't know the rest of the tie-breakers. It's weird that none of the four played each other.

A long time ago I saw a list for the B1G, and the last tie-breaker was a coin flip.

Yeah, very odd none of the 4 played each other.

I'd rather see it extend in any manner to non conference than than just a coin toss. That seems like a copout.
