Congrats to Iowa State

Not at all. The B1G will typically get 4 teams in, whereas the Big 12 will only get 1, the conference champion. It won’t happen every year, but I’m confident Iowa can occasionally compete for one of those spots. Will all depend on the next coaching hire.

Iowa State was fortunate to not play anyone except Iowa at Kinnick this season. They likely won’t be as fortunate in years to follow. While I agree the path to competing for a Big 12 conference championship is easier for Iowa State than it is Iowa winning a B1G championship, I firmly believe no Big 12 team will ever win a national championship under the current format. The fact is, the Big 12 is a shell of what it once was and will continue to resemble a glorified MAC conference as the years go by.
Over the next 20 years, Iowa will never make the conference championship, as most teams in the Big 10 won't. When you have PSU, OSU, UM, Oregon at the top, the rest of your conference is pretty much screwed. It will be rare that the championship teams will not be in that group.

Their Big 12 strength of schedule was garbage this year. No Colorado, no BYU and no ASU in the regular season. Best win was at Iowa, yes. And isn’t it funny and depressing at the same time to use Colorado, BYU and ASU as a measuring stick for conference dominance? 🤣 Damn the Big 12 is bad.

In seriousness though, the Texas schools and Ok State have a ton of money and won’t be down long. If ever there was a year for an Iowa State to make noise, this is it.
Iowa's been in a division, for the past 13 years, that was far worse than what the B12 had this year...so I guess any success you've had in that time is worth nothing, right? Further, your SOS overall has been nothing less than heinous. Perhaps you should quit throwing stones from your glass house...especially given we kicked your ass at YOUR house. Again.

The truth is this, it takes a good team to win 10 games...either in that weak West Division as Iowa did...or in this current iteration of the B12. I've no idea if we can beat ASU...but we're gonna find it out. If we do, we're in the playoffs. How many times has Iowa been in the playoffs?

Even in a weak division, we still had crossover games from the East. PLUS there was almost always a legit top 5 team in our championship game.

Your dogs!t conference features 2 mediocre teams in the championship….either of which will get steamrolled in the playoffs. Keep puffing your chest little bro & we’ll keep laughing at you.

lol…isu didn’t “kick” Iowa’s ass this year!?! Iowa dominated first half and gave it away in 2nd half with stupid play calling. Isu wins on a last second field goal.

Yeah, Do you think Iowa would go undefeated in the B12, I don't think so. The B10 has a lot of dead weight in football, take out Ohio State, Oregon, and Michigan they are no better than anyone else. By the way, the weak ISU did beat Iowa this year. I think someone is butthurt because ISU won 10 games is going to their championship game with a shot of a playoff birth.
You left out Penn State and Indiana…two teams that arguably could have won the Big 12 this year (besides the other 3 teams you mentioned).

You have a point. ISU can't get in without winning its CCG. Winning at Iowa does nothing to help a teams prestige on the national stage. Time for ISU to drop this game and schedule better teams in the non conference!
lol…I see what you did there. 😉 Many Iowa fans (including me) have been beating the drum to drop the clones from our schedule for many years, but the isu AD whines whenever that gets brought up.

There is only one power conference and it ain’t the B1G. You guys want to lump Iowa/B1G in with the SEC is a joke.
lol…Big 10 in actually stronger football conference (this year) vs the SEC…just look at the power rankings.

Iowa State plays in an inferior conference. They simply do. It's not that debatable. But, regrettably they beat Iowa this year, so it's not a good year to go on about it.

I go the other way.

Big 12 should drop to 8 conference games and schedule 4 auto wins in the conference.

SMU went 11-1, losing to BYU. Their best win is what, Pitt? They are rated higher than any Big 12 team. Same with Boise State. Best thing to do in the current format is win as many games as possible, who cares about the schedule.
That’s how basketball teams routinely schedule, but at least the NCAA hoops selection committee takes strength of schedule into consideration. Football will need to start doing so too.

Can we stop pretending SOS matters? Do you care that SMU hasn’t beaten a team with a pulse and lost to BYU at home?

Never is a long time. 😉 Did anyone anticipate Indiana being so good this year? I think Iowa will “occasionally” make it to a Big 10 title game, particularly post Ferentz era.

Which ones? SEC way better in Sagarin and Massey.
Recently 4 of the top 5 ranked teams…Oregon, OSU, Penn State, and Indiana…were all Big 10 teams. Despite OSU’s, close loss to Michigan they are still a play-off worthy team.

This debate can go on forever but the team with easily the weakest schedule of them all that is a CFP contender hails from the B1G - it’s Indiana. Besides Boise State.

Oh, so the conference is only the top 4-5 teams? I always get confused about this.

Sagarin has 5 SEC in the top 10 and 3 Big 10. Which power ratings were you referencing?

Iowa State plays in a really subpar conference with no top 15 type teams.
Iowa plays in an elite conference (top 2 with the SEC) but managed to only have to play 1 of the top 6 teams in the conference.
So both had really easy schedules or didn’t have to play anyone in the top 25 really, except Ohio State.

Sorry, I was referencing AP Top 25 rankings…currently has 4 Big 10 teams in top 10, SEC has 3 teams in top 10. I realize need to look at entire conference for comparison purposes, but for this year Big 10 arguably better overall conference. In any event, I assume you agree that the Big 12 is certainly a step below those two conferences. 😉

Yeah no doubt. It’s not debatable, the Big 12 is behind those two.

Campbell takes a cue from Captain Kirk next season, when ISU is struggling and gets a pointed question in a post-game presser;

"We won 10 (at least) games last season, not sure if you were aware of that."
If he wins the conference and a CFP birth, he's going to get a grace period.

Iowa State played the 38th toughest schedule in the nation according to Sagarin. Doesn’t seem that tough, I guess, but only 3 teams (Sagarin rated) in the top 10 played tougher schedules: Texas, Georgia, and Alabama. Ten wins with that schedule ain’t bad.

Iowa State is ranked 18th, Iowa 25th by Sagarin. Iowa’s schedule was ranked 48th.

Hopefully I haven’t confused you with facts…
