Great game by all, but I really thought Connor had a great floor game and defense. He is a very heady player and tough as nails IMO.
I've often thought the same thing. I'm surprised this has never been brought up on this board before.Great game by all, but I really thought Connor had a great floor game and defense. He is a very heady player and tough as nails IMO.
This is like the twelfth connor appreciation thread. I don’t think any fan that has a clue is undervaluing him!He has been undervalued by our fans all year. Doesnt turn the ball over and makes great passes and decisions most of the time. He has a great ability of putting the ball on a pass to the spot that lets the player score easier. Kind of like how Tom Brady is great with leading a receiver so he can catch it in stride. I think some of it comes from his left-handedness! Not a great scorer but love having a guard that can size up and rebound.
Almost like it was never brought up last year that he should quit and focus on baseball.I've often thought the same thing. I'm surprised this has never been brought up on this board before.

What's a floor game?
Only problem I have with this tweet is that although Connor is a PG in name, he really plays a Point Forward position. So the guy on any given team who’s guarding JoeT or even CJ, isn’t guarding Connor. And this is a big reason why Iowa’s so hard to guard.
He did. The announcers went back on a replay and confirmed it. He can be seen right next to the official on the opposite side of the court calling timeout. It appeared Connor took the initiative to call the TO when ME was trapped to preserve the procession towards the end of the game....I think.
It looked like the backcourt ref pointed at Connor to maybe signal who called the TO.
If so, he certainly acted like a coach's kid & has a high basketball IQ.
Seeing the court on O and D, making great and timely passes, staying within the O and D, playing solid D in a variety of ways, getting guys to the right positions on the court, rebounding, boxing out, hustling, being a coach on the floor, contributing scoring in important situations, that sort of thing.

I think that one big advantage that Connor utilizes is that his post defense is a little different from what bigs are used to playing against. He relies on footwork and quickness more the the leaning. It's harder to establish and maintain good position when the defender is constantly improving his. He also anticipates screens and cuts well so that he never gives up a clear path to the block. Just forcing the offensive player out to the second block make them much less effective. He played sensational defense on the post players.
He’s a big reason why Wesson did nothing all night.
He’s really good at guarding his guy in the post & at the same time positioning his body to clog up the lane for the opponent’s other low post player.
So did the February Fade and FM can’t coach crowds.Seems like the "He should stick with baseball and forget about basketball" crowd has left the building.
Well he may not actually be a point "guard" anymore, but whatever he is currently doing, I'll take some more of it. His off the ball defense has been a huge help to the posts. He dug several balls out of Wesson when he tried to make his move to the hoop. Every game CMac just does all those little things that don't show up in the box score, but spell "WIN".
