Crap Rose is Out

I was upset about losing the Rose as a fallback earlier. But I'm feeling much better about winning the BigTen now. I was giving OSU the benefit of the doubt (even tho it doesn't look like they were much to be scared of), but I feel like MSU is a known and I like our chances.

Plus, any doubts about us controlling our own destiny to the CFP are gone now. Two very winnable games to go and we are in the CFP!

The Rose Bowl used to be a big deal when it meant you were the BigTen champion. Now, it's just another January bowl.

you will have an Iowa team that loses to MSU in the champ game vs an OSU team that lost at home.

Remember the ranking is by humans. Doesn't necessity mean we all fall behind OSU in the rankings

Yeah, have to go with this one. OSU wasn't impressing people when they were winning. This performance, one of the ten weakest offensive efforts by ANY FBS team all year long, is going to drop them like a rock. Beat Nebraska and I think we're either playoffs or Rose.

Sure it would be nice to still go to the Rose Bowl if we do not win the CCG, but we can't be "mad" if that happens. If you want to go to the Rose Bowl or CFP you have to earn it by winning the conference. Sometimes teams (Frickin Ron Zook) get lucky and get to the Rose Bowl when they didn't really deserve it, and I'll admit I've felt that whenever that situation happens in Iowa's favor then karma will be even for 2002. But in reality we didn't technically deserve the Rose Bowl in 2002 either. OSU won the B10 tiebreaker of better overall record and higher ranking in the final poll, so even with pre-BCS rules we would have missed the Rose that year too.

I have some other thoughts about a 12-1 non B1G champ Hawkeye team still having a chance a Pasadena, but I'm going to wait to dwell on those until Friday night if applicable

LOL, no it is not. This year it very well could feature the B1G Champion. In other years it's part of the playoffs (which also could involve the B1G Champ).

Either way, the Rose Bowl is still a very prestigious bowl with unmatched pageantry.

Ironic that it took Jake Rudock transferring to Michigan to have Hawkeye Nation become his biggest fanboys this coming Saturday.

That just seems un Hawkeye like to be fine not going to the Rose Bowl in exchange for Ohio St losing. You do realize the odds just went up of Iowa playing Navy in the Peach now right? That would be a lose lose for Iowa. If we were to beat them everyone will say we'll yeah they should beat them. If we lose everyone will say see we never belonged in the top 10.

Michigan St. could still get into the top 4 if they win out. They have several high quality wins.

If MSU wins out, they're almost certainly in the final 4. They beat tOSU, Michigan and Oregon. If we win only one of last two games, Rose Bowl is likely but still let's just win them both.

Nope I don't want to lose to Nebraska. The perfect path was undefeated Iowa goes to Big Championship wins and goes to the CFP or losses and goes to the Rose. Now the paths are undefeated Iowa goes to Big Championship wins goes to CFP or losses and goes to Peach, or worse Citrus, or lose to Nebraska win B1G and go to Rose. As you can see the MSU victory gives us a lesser disired scenario but maybe a better matchup B1G oponent.

Exactly. The Rose is still huge. Going to the Peach would be a massive let down for the season this team has had

In 1991 I was 21 yrs old, not a care in the world, me and a couple of buddies were all but set to drive out to California. One guy had to back out and the plans fell apart. We all said, 'no biggie, we'll just go to the next one'.

I guess I should have said... "in my opinion". To me, it's just another January bowl. The tradition doesn't escape me, as some buddies and I drove out to the '82 Rose Bowl to watch the Ronnie Harmon debacle. To me, it's no longer what it was. I can understand if you disagree.

I don't usually root for Michigan, but when I do it's against tOSU.

Leroy,

Harmon was not in the 82 Rose Bowl. But I get your point.

Go Hawks!

Damn... It was '86 wasn't it. It's so long ago I barely remember the game... only that it was a hell of a long drive and we got absolutely trounced! LOL I was gone by '86 so must have watched it on TV. When you get this old the memory tends to mix things up a bit!
