Few notes to start- I did not have the riding time on screen. Also some of the rankings could be off/wrong?

125 PETERSEN 27 vs UR Was not able to finish shots, had trouble getting out from bottom. Other kid was a pretty good scrambler. Unless the knee injury is holding him back? We are going to need to improve here and Deluca may have to go right outa gate! 65

133 DRAKE 9 vs 5 Slick 1st TD, great work on 2nd, and added a 3rd to extend lead. Like to see something more from top but overall I think the best he has looked so far this year. 98

141 BLOCK 31 vs UR BLAST was real nice, need to get ride out. Looked like he was fading some when he gave up TD then got rode out. MISTAKE taking bottom!!! It has been talked about, and I get the IOWA TUFFNESS stuff etc.... but in match coaching sometimes needs to be adjusted. I think had he gone on feet in 3rd, he had a better shot to pull match out 65

149 PARCO 4 vs 7 no score in 1st did not have me thrilled. Thought Parco was doing most of the work and creating the action. Gave up a tough TD and then there was some confusion on what was taking place? Lock hands called, gets escape, bricks thrown?!!?!? At first I was concerned why IOWA threw brick, did not see Iowa st. also threw brick. Turned out well for the GOOD GUYS as we got what I believe was an illegal cut back call and point, give him the 83

157 TEEMER 1 vs 10 all I got is a HUGE F#@K!!! Moving right along

165 Caliando 2 vs 9? Just enjoy watching him WORK!!! He was aggressive but not finishing. Was not sure about that 1st TD he gave up? they were saying he gave up Neutral danger points, but replay maybe it was correct TD call? GREAT mat work getting reverses both times when he was down. Still feel they have to change a reverse from TWOOO to THREEEE!!!! A lot more shots in 2nd, still no TD but got stall warning and just kept wrestling IOWA STYLE!!! 95

174 KENNEDY UR? vs UR very much liking quick shot and TD!!!PLUS constant work thru 1st building lead. there was a really nice reshot for a TD in 2nd with a TUFF ride out. would like to see more improvement on top game, break down to pinning combo! Added a TD at very end to get TECH!!! again IOWA STYLE! 90

184 FERRARI UR vs 15 showed great POWER finish first shot or TD!!!A nice Low Single but a good counter(comes in to play later in match) took a little time and work to escape but was never in danger. His 2nd TD he wound up in a similar situation as the Low single and made the adjustments to finish!!! Worked hard for bonus, would have loved to see him get it!
99-100 how do you grade this?

197
BUCHANAN 2 vs 20, Iowa st kid was THICK!!! IOWA Was aggressor and then with short SHORT time, shot and finish end 1 NICE!! Rode him like a 25 cent pony in front of the local food store! Wish he would have tightened some of the bars up when he had them! Kid had unusually flexibility for his size!!! Anyway I would have taken TOP in third and stalled him outa the match, great work getting major to seal the deal. 95

Heavy Kueter 13 vs 4 Hate beating a dead horse but with more muscle he wins that match pretty easy. Was getting horsed in some positions including 1st TD situation. Good work on bottom to escape. Had Cradle locked up I thought he had him!!! He will be in the battle to AA for sure 80

Do not like the during match interviews, LOVE the new mat!!!

PK get 100 came out swinging and didn’t stop. Got the crowd and team going again.

Peterson is young and gonna drop some matches.
I hope block gets it figured out but his tank cannot go 7 mins yet.
BK almost got into some upper body nonsense with bastida but luckily backed outta it. Still not sure he’s got the power to match with the bigger hwts, but dammit his long arms nearly locked up the cradle a few times

The freshman need to improve in most phases, which shouldn't be a shocker to most. They accounted for all 3 losses (not counting Teemer's injury default). Liked what I saw from the vets, especially PK and SB. Drake got a great win and AF was seconds from a major. Hopefully Teemer just tweaked his hammy and can get healthy by January. Love listening to Ironside. Always tells it like it is.

Does Teemer medical redshirt if it's even just 6-8 weeks? I'd assume he won't be able to maintain conditioning during that timeframe. Hamstrings tend to linger even after healing and he's going to have to trust it again before going full speed. That match was crushing, but it could further stack our lineup for next year were he to sit this one out.

The effort tonight was excellent. Two weight classes need to work on their tanks and be able to get more shots off and more explosion from bottom. I think it will come with time and experience. Was extremely impressed by Ben's effort in that final match. With more experience, he's going to be really good. I think he'll be on the podium in a really deep heavyweight class.

Caliendo earned lower grade. Pulled away late.
Kennedy earned higher grade (that tech was huge)
Ferrari = wow
Kueter wrestled well and until the end. Like you stated, more muscle and he's a legit threat at Heavy.

Sooooo, 74 and 84 just got tougher to figure out. Gabe is no slouch, does Angelo RS this year? PK looked very good with a dismantling of an opponent that new him very well......some tough decisions to make! PK has another year so PK, AF, and GA all back next year as well.

Caliendo wrestled Gaitan’s unranked backup. He was unimpressive again. Seeing PK out there makes me think your best lineup is:

165 PK
174 Gabe
184 Ferrari

Caliendo can try to cut to cover for Teemer of he can make it.

Great to see Drake, PK, Angelo and Buchanan really rise to the occasion. Pretty disappointing efforts from the rest of the lineup however.
Any particular reason why nearly every in state recruit has heavy feet and a plodding style? Drake is kind of an exception but the other three Iowa kids on the roster looked to be wrestling with weighted shoes on.
Definitely a concern with all three, especially Ben. You can't be an undersized HWT and not excel with quickness and athleticism.

I would add Caliendo as to rising to the occasion. He was in 5 times against a kid that didn’t what to wrestle him. He made the simple adjustments in the 3rd and lit it up. Mikey — get your head to the outside and cut the corner.

I don’t think Caliendo can make 57 but it would be amazing if he could:

Parco - 149
Caliendo
Kennedy
Arnold
Ferrari
Buchanan
Keuter

With Ben, Yonger is a light HWT who moved up from 197 and grew up in freestyle only, so he’s actually far more quick and agile than almost every heavy Ben will see. Once Ben started trying to take advantage with mat wrestling, he almost turned him with the cradle.

Loved the interviews. Just my opinion.
I would like them if it was not in the middle of the dual meet.
Good analysis. I would give Kennedy a 95 - 100
I think many of the grades could be moved up or down depending on how you want to judge it? For me, it seemed that this dual meet, more so then any other for some reason??? You could add in many factors including it was the first B1G match of season. Then add in for some like Kennedy, his first match this season. I just felt his opponent was not that great so that is why I had it where I did.
Kale needs lower than a 65
See above ^^^ Giving passing grade on effort for him. Felt he was giving it his all, just was not good enough that day!
PK get 100 came out swinging and didn’t stop. Got the crowd and team going again.
See above ^^^^

I mean overall a pretty good match for IOWA. Many felt that the Cyclones could pull off the upset!?!?!? Guessing if you had taken Teemer out of line up before the meet, many would have bet against the HAWKS?

Plenty to look forward to with these kids as we are all talking about. Ferrari looks the part for sure, I would redshirt him because another year and he may come out as the favorite.

Someone talked about Teemer and a medical shirt. Not sure what might happen??? But IF he ever was to come back next year!!!

Deluca, Ayala, Teemer, Caliando, Kennedy have a year? Arnold, Ferrari, I would get AJ back if I could( I will take heat again but if he makes it thru this season, no doubt he will be looking to "move up" team wise) and the last piece is Kuerter as a FULL-TIME wrestler at a FULL 275 pounds.

That is a possible NC TEAM!!!

I would love nothing more than for in state kids to be the best of the best but unfortunately that hasn't been the case most of the time. Our recruiting needs to reflect that fact until it changes.

The transfer portal has never been a thing like it is now.

relevant because without nil and wide open transfer portal.

49,57, 65, and 97 are holes and we lose against Ia St
49 Rathjen has beat Ech not saying he wins but not a hole
57 probably lose/ but Siebrect could catch him. Not a hole
65 you don’t think Kennedy wins
97 Glazier , toss up/ Carroll is a transfer, who is 97 back up for ISU

Who cares numbnuts, transfer portal is full swing now.

Same as saying "take away iowa's points from recruits from Pennsylvania and iowa state wins" five years ago or so.

Isu has transfers and guys benefiting from nil as well. So you are saying it only impacts iowas lineup? Good to know.
No not at all saying that but the fact is, Iowa could afford to bring in two number 1 ranked transfers and two top 5s.
If you take transfers out of our lineup, we go from #2 national contenders to maybe #6?
The unusual log jam of talent in the upper middle weights would help any drop off there. But you still don’t have anything in the first half of the lineup outside of Ayala.
Isu could have their transfers disappear and only drop down 1 ranking spot.
We need to plan better so we’re not so reliant on transfers

Actually Caleb would've probably got bonus over whoever he faced since Ech transferred in after getting kicked out of Ohio State for choking his wife.
Sandfors take is terrible. Iowa State had transfers at 57, 65, 84, and 97. You can't make this shit up .

A few things to take into consideration
1) Kale is coming off of an injury and cutting a lot of weight, yes he could be better but he is giving everything he has. Will be Deluca next year.
2) Ryder is cutting more weight than anybody on the team he also had zero matches last year as well. He should be at 149 and will be next year.

I can’t believe how unlucky the Hawks are. Teemer was a finalist and now we have a Qualifier who might sneak out a win. Don’t know if Teemer has a medical option but I would seriously consider it if I were him.

The portal is actually recruiting as well. You're just recruiting experienced wrestlers and not high school kids. Ech, Chittum, Bockman and Carroll are all transfers without them they definitely drop more than 1 spot. The plan is recruit high school kids and the portal. Why would you only do one
