Cyclone women take a hit

ISU is a mess.
Who would want to play for a raging, drunk lunatic like Fennelly?
His tirades near the bench are epic. And making Joens the only offensive option had to be divisive to team play.

Guessing there will be one more big departure within the next week.
With a new HC at Minny, that's my guess for Donarski.
Fennelly needs to retire. He's massively underachieving in the last few years.

The recruit from Garrigan is gonna be hating life real soon.

Donarski hits the portal
Sounding similar to what happened to Brenda Freese at Maryland after last season. She lost several key players after the season ended. She hit the portal and reloaded quickly. Question is, can Bill find enough 3 and 4-star girls in the portal this spring to get the job done?

Not for a HC near retirement.

Maybe Brian Joens can force Pollard to hire his daughter that coaches at West Liberty? Or, maybe Brian can get hired?

Nah.... let him stay.

No.

Maggie Vick is also regular transferring, and Morgan Kane and Maggie Espenmiller McGraw are grad transferring.
Agree on the no. We don't have a roster spot available at the moment, and even if we did I highly doubt Donarski would join a team with 3-year starters at positions 1-3. And that's not even considering Davis, Affolter, Feuerbach, and McCabe.

She'd be a great player to have, but the move makes little sense for the team or player.

Just imagine a conference DPOY who can still put up 12-15 a game on this team next year. I have to think you’d try to find a spot for her if she’s interested. We only have 1 or 2 years of CC left and we need to go for broke. Problem is, who do you encourage to leave?

Even with Fennelly being Fennelly, Donarski leaving is a shocker. 3 year starter and pretty good all-around player. I'd rather have had her than Feuerbach two years ago.

This latest transfer is apparently a shock to everyone associated with the program.

Whatever is happening is a big deal. If you've never watched an ISU womens' game...Fennelly treats his players in public like Fran's relationship with game officials.

He's a psycho.

Maybe she wants to go where she can make a Final Four before her career is over. Little chance of that at ISU. Won't be transferring to Iowa but there must be other landing spots.

For an 18-footer or to look at?
I don't watch a lot of ISU basketball, but I thought Donarski played with more intensity than Feuerbach when they were teammates. But they had a great group of freshman guards back then (and I was surprised Fennelly was able to recruit them).

Imagine everything that happened this week if you're a ISU fan...
1. Soares denied injury waiver.
2. Lose four players, and counting, to the portal.
3. Licking their wounds from an early tourney exit.
4. Watching your biggest rival make the Elite Eight.
5. Having a fan base screaming for a coaching change.

Plus, Ashley Joens is graduating but dad will still be around!

Donarski was a Top 10 ESPN player coming into Iowa State and was a point guard. Bill moved her to the 2 allowing Emily Ryan to be the teams point guard. Maybe that is the position she wants to get back too, Indiana could use a point guard too so that is one team to watch.

I'd also bet Marissa Mosely at Wisconsin has already made contact too, might be a long shot but still a possibility since its her home state.

I don’t have a strong dislike for Fennelly but I do think he would be tough to play for. He doesn’t seem to be a great in game coach and he also seems to be harsh on players (I remember someone on here saying Feuerbach’s family intimated this after her txfrs).

You’ve gotta think that throwing away this season after last year’s success is deflating. Their offense looked (and was) pretty stagnant, she looks underdeveloped.

To me the question is does she wanna stay in the Big 12 (who is also pretty down at large)? I think Wisconsin, Minnesota and Indiana (if there are roster spots, they may be full as we are) will all make a call to her. Probably Oklahoma and K-State as well.

And most of the posts I read on Fanatic were complimentary to Fennelly. Terms like "Legendary" used to describe, and "he deserves to go out on his own timetable". He has won over there, and as long as that is the case , it is acceptable to refer to young ladies as a "dumb C**t" and other choice words that the Legendary Coach likes to use to motivate his women.
Playing for Coach Bluder and Jan Jensen or Fenelly? If given a choice, why would anyone rather play for a verbally abusive old man over two of the classiest women in the collegiate game? ISU must be throwing a boatload of money at the Algona Garrigan (Catholic School) player to want to play for the maniac at ISU.

Also, Men laying a big turd (Like the Hawks)
Wrestling team vastly underperformed in the NCAA tournament. Did not crack top ten. Thought they would contend for a trophy. (top 3 get) but instead were in a battle to stay ahead of South Dakota State.
And the baseball team so far this year? oops.

There was a guy who posted on CF a few years ago that said he watched a Clone WBB practice, and that if Fennelly had talked to his daughter the way Fennelly talked to his players, he would have decked him. :)

OTOH, during the time of the Nikki Moody lawsuit, he still had ex-players defending him.

Speaking from experience, Bill is a very demanding Coach. Some kids adapt and respond, others look elsewhere.

I know they have some really good commits coming in; wonder if this may tempt them to reconsider?

There's a story or comments on CF about Fennelly's DIL making harassing phone calls pressuring former players to speak in his defense regarding that lawsuit.
So, I guess I'd take that "players defending him" into context.

This story has potential to be front page news if a little more stuff surfaces.
I think any HC that puts up with Brian Joens has severe ethical issues.

According to a couple of posters that apparently run their NIL program, they can't raise much because Clone fans are incredibly cheap asses.
Regarding the Garrigan kid, I guess it was more of a AAU connection and Ames' proximity to Algona that was the big factor for family attending games.

Whoa, I hadn't come across that. Guess that puts a new slant on the phrase "demanding" with regard to BF.

His DIL is a former player of his, I believe.
I mentioned this before but I stood next to BF at a concession stand at a youth baseball tourney last summer and he's got the "whiskey nose" thing and a red, flushed face.
I think there are other things going on with him.

I have no love for ISU, but this is a garbage post. You can cram this type of speculative, reputation-destroying trash. Shame on you.
