Cyclones now have a losing record

Prohm almost swallowed his tongue tonight and got the tech. Really helped his team when down by 5 late. Great coaching.

In a way it is too bad none of them post here anymore, because I would like some updated feedback on my (long-held) position that every single one of them, if honest, would dump Prohm in a minute to have Fred back.

I, honestly, would not take Fred back. His decision to return to NBA was fine by me. You can't fault the guy for chasing his dream (and 25 million dollars). When he returned to the college ranks, I lost respect for him because he made it very clear that he did not enjoy the recruiting aspect of college coaching.

I like Prohm. I have never met the man, but he seems like a decent + honorable guy. Who really knows though? I hope he turns things around.

Watching GameDay this morning confirms this. I guess I would rather be 8-10 with Prohm, than 16-2 with a slime bag like Bruce Pearl. Winning is fun + nice, but not that important.

Excellent. ....excellent.
You do the "'nice", and the "turning things around," and we'll take care of the winning from now on.

Stender - while I appreciate your holistic approach to winning and losing and doing things the right way your fanbase and AD definitely do not agree. Hell all your AD and fans do is compare your programs to Iowa and you are 3-17 over the last 5 years. So much cub and not bear and it won’t last. Look at people giving away tickets to a home game against the number 1 ranked team this week at “Hilton Magic.”

I'm sure they believe that they'll be better next year. Haliburton will be a lottery pick...he's gone. Will the Clones really be better?

Hopefully we get another thread about how they will “reload” after this year when they lose Halliburton plus 2 other starters in Nixon and Jacobson from a team on pace to finish below .500. Honestly who will be their best player next tear? Bolton? The guy who chucks it like he’s playing at the local ymca.

Hkfan23 - I know I dont represent the entire fan base. I know there are a lot of Dbags wearing the cardinal + gold who place far too much importance on college athletics. I wont sell my soul to the devil to be great in sports, and hope ISU doesnt either. In the end, whether or not ISU beats Texas today doesnt really affect my life.

Perhaps you could have a heart to heart with whoever this Cytwins is.

Clones headed towards a losing record over the past 3 year period (since Fred’s guys graduated). U h8 2 c it.

isu is in rare group of teams. Syracuse (1991), Arizona (1993), South Carolina (1997), isu (2001), Duke and Missouri (2012), Georgetown (2013 and Mich St (2016). All #2 seed that lost a first round game.

I would be curious if those teams ever lost 1st round games as a 3 seed or if ISU is the only program to ever do both.

This is the athletics department who preached the narrative ‘forever, loyal and true’ that now has a portion of its fan base that has given up on this team, season and wants a new coach. Comical because it all comes back to winning like it always does.

Haliburton hurt his wrist tonight and took himself out of the game.

KSU has cut the 20 point Cyclone lead down to 4 with 7:56 left in Hilton.

If Haliburton has to miss extended time, ISU basketball is going to be must see TV the rest of the season.

And only UVA has suffered the indignity of losing a first-round game as a 1 seed.

Looking at it from an outsider's perspective, I don't understand this position about losing respect because he came back to college.

He obviously wasn't going to get another pro head coaching job, and left the front office job to get back into coaching. His options were to make $500k as an assistant in the NBA (over 82 games) with little to no job security or $25 million over 7 years (32? games) in college.

Would you take a job making $30/hr with longer hours and no job security over a job making $210/hr where you didn't like part of it, but were guaranteed income if things didn't work out?

That said, I enjoyed the ass kicking we gave him yesterday. Hopefully one of many more to come.

He’s going to shut it down and prepare for the draft. That would be smart for him on many levels.

Obviously shouldn’t question anyone’s desire to earn a living as they see fit, but I’ll do it anyway. Why would he come back to college to coach lil debbie? With the $ he has made one would think he could bide his time and pick any big opening that comes up. Maybe growing up in Ames he feels like Lincoln is a bustling metropolis with all sorts of fun and exciting stuff to do.

Isn't Hoiberg from Lincoln?

I think he was born in Omaha.

I believe his grandpa was the Huskers b-ball coach?
Color me uninformed I guess. Must be a husker deep down and Ames and Isu were always a pit stop. Maybe the fan base should stop thinking he’ll come back to rescue them.

I believe the Huskers recruited Fred to play QB.

Follow-up to my original post and TCOOL's question

Surprisingly 7 of the 8 teams that lost as a #2 seed have also lost as a #2 seed. The lone exception is Syracuse.

The #3 seed losses are Missouri (1990), Arizona (1992), Mich St (1995). South Carolina (1998), Georgetown (2010), Duke (2014) and (of course) isu (2015).

The hall of shame losing (as a #2 or #3 seed) in back-to-back years belong to Arizona (2 and 3) and South Carolina (2 and 3).
