Davenport coach alleges racist comments by basketball refs

Again, I know more about North than you do. Torbee is right. You’re wrong.
I will let my family know you are an expert. One was there the first year it opened and another graduated last year.
Marshalltown is a poor school with a lot of brown kids. I don’t think anyone calls it an “urban” school. Urban does not imply race.
Except it does for the black community

Cool. Not bad. My experience with North and where it is located is still far more extensive than what you just posted...which is why all of this is comical.

Hey @bladel - is North an urban or suburban school?

I bet the Police Chief of Davenport, my old friend and North alum, would be happy to tell you what a dumb shit you are 😂😂😂
I don't know what qualifies as "urban".

Plain clothes police er "Resource Officers" roaming the halls? ✅
Metal detectors? ✅
Exterior doors that were locked and/or guarded by staff? ✅
Weekly fights in the halls, cafeteria, locker rooms? ✅

That was DNHS in the late 80s. Go Wildcats.

Edit: I'll add that we used to call Bettendorf and Pleasant Valley "Country Club High". Which is why, when this Davenport North Alum moved back to the Quad Cities, I made damn sure that's where my kids went to school.

You should've sent your kids to my old high school so we could've won a State Championship.

As I posted earlier in this thread, no coach, IMO, especially a black coach is going to be called the N word or a racial slur by one official let alone be called racial slurs by all three and let it slide. It makes no sense. I am placing this in the Smollett and Duke Volleyball category of fiction.

Are they also ignorant? Hopefully they got a decent education at the urban school they attended and aren’t as close minded as their non-Davenport relative.
Just how racist are you planning on being in this thread torbee?

You just posted an opinion piece regarding the word urban. The word, by definition, has nothing to do with race but rather population. But hey man you do you.
An article about music companies no longer using the word urban because it has been used in a negative way to stereotype black people and black culture. Those music executives changing an entire classification of music and not calling it urban any longer. Well thank goodness you are here to set the record straight on the definition of urban for those black folk.

Again, are you going to write a strongly worded letter to the Urban Education Network of Iowa and let them know how racist their organization is?

AboutUs_Collaboration.jpg
UEN Mission

The Urban Education Network keeps the state's lawmakers, the media, and the public informed about the progress and problems in our state's largest and most diverse public school districts. We do this through advocacy, legislation, communications and research.
The UEN also helps to build capacity in urban education by facilitating connections between member districts to improve student academic performance and narrow achievement gaps, improve professional development; and strengthen leadership, governance, and management.
In addition, joint efforts with other state organizations and policymakers extend the UEN's influence and effectiveness outside member school districts to the broader community that will ultimately benefit from the contributions of today's urban students. All members of the UEN help determine program priorities. For guidance, the members rely upon data retrieved from local, state, regional and national sources. In addition, specific issues arise addressing contemporary events, legislative concerns and current trends.
The priorities of the UEN continually evolve, reflecting the changing needs of urban students, families and communities.

Who We Are

A consortium of Iowa's largest public school districts formed to represent the unique characteristics of urban public schools as well as issues related to all of Iowa's public schools. The Urban Education Network is a nonprofit organization incorporated in 1993. Our members are all classified as urban in nature.

Common Characteristics of Urban School Districts:

  • Population density
  • Cultural, social and economic diversity
  • Broad ethnic representation
  • Extensive transportation system
  • Two or more comprehensive high schools and/or 10,000 or more students
  • 4,000 or more students, or districts with 3,000 students combined with 40% or more of the student population identified as free/reduced-price lunch eligible, the concentration of minority enrollment, specifically education services, English-language learners, and other metrics of diversity

Jesus this is really dumb…congrats I guess?

I read the article. It’s an opinion piece. The definition of the word has nothing to do with race.

I will respectfully bow out…I need to run to downtown CF to let Urban Pie know that the name of their business is racist.

It isn't dumb at all and it making you uncomfortable should hive you pause on being dismissive. Words like urban or phrases like inner city are used to promote the stereotypes surrounding black people and their culture. I didn't make it up and there are many more articles out there talking about the problems with using this type of language which translates to poor and black.

The objection of the use of the word urban to describe poor black and brown people isn't new. People have been calling it out for 50 years because it is an easy way to be disparaging to black people without directly using race as a descriptor. Once again that isn't me saying that...it is a lot of people including senior music industry executives and artists as well as politicians and leaders in the black community. Me calling some of you out for describing Davenport North as urban because it is diverse and poor is exactly on point. You don't hear Bettendorf or Pleasant valley high schools described as urban at all....I wonder why. The answer of course is fairly obvious. You will also notice that torbee described the school as urban and then quickly shifted to using the city as the descriptor. His little sycophants all chimed in as well despite the fact that this is something the left side if the aisle and leaders within the black community would like to stop. Pretending like they did that they were simply referring to the definition of urban as relating to a city is dishonest and quite frankly racist. Like I said the objection to its use isn't new and it is the left that is mostly the ones that have historically tried to get people to stop using it that way. Torbs though is a narcissist that gets his supply from this message board so the conflict for him is the point. Even so far that he polled a dinner party in one of the whitest places on earth on Bettendorf amongst successful white collar people. He can't help himself.

The term urban is problematic and racist especially when it is used as a descriptor for where black people live or go to school.

SEPTUPLING on idiocy after literally everyone in the thread called him out for being ignorant.

This may be heading toward an HROT record!

😂 😂 😂 😂

P.S. the people at my dinner party you called "white" are getting quite the chuckle out of me relating your dumbness to them. Talk about jumping to conclusions.

Yeah, it’s dumb. Thank you for letting me know that I’m uncomfortable. I was not aware. Keep banging your head against the wall broseph. I’m sure things will change real quickly for you.

And btw, you cited an opinion piece. That’s fine. People are entitled to their opinion. I used the fvcking definition of the word, which is not an opinion, and it has nothing to do with race. One more thing, I don’t know shit about the QC, never claimed to. I spoke to the generic usage of the word and never once referenced the QC. Carry on.

I just want to take this moment to thank you for being one of my legion of "sycophants" 😂 😂 😂
