Looking forward to tomorrow night and hopefully onward to the playoffs.

Thinking about tomorrow night's game and how everyone in the national media and most fans view the Hawkeyes, it reminded me of the scripture in Samuel about David slewing Goliath. Nobody gives Iowa a chance just like the Philistines laughed at an unarmed David when he faced down Goliath on the field of battle.

"David triumphed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone; without a sword in his hand he struck down the Philistine and killed him."

Keep the faith Hawks, although nobody gives us a chance, right can win over might.

See you all in Indy and Go Hawks!

I watched the '83 NC State 30 for 30 last night. I've seen it a number of times because it's one of my favorites. I could help but think about how similar the '15 Hawkeyes are to them.

NC State had to win the ACC tournament to even make the NCAA tournament. Iowa has to win the BIG Championship to make the CFP. Both teams were never the media's favorite. Both teams play hard and have a never quit attitude. The "survive and advance" is the same approach as the "one game at a time". Both teams are filled with player's that aren't or weren't considered "stars" with the exception of players like Thurman Bailey and Desmond King.

The only real differences are record and that Iowa hasn't had to play from behind too much.

Iowa is not David.
Nobody is giving us much of a chance tomorrow or in the playoff if we win. All year long nobody believed in these kids, including some of our fans. Glad they didn't listen and went about the task at hand.

Hope they can keep it going.

Agreed. Iowa is not Goliath. Iowa is ranked higher than Michigan State. Iowa is undefeated. Iowa beat the only team that beat Michigan State. Iowa has the Big Ten Coach of the Year, one of the best corners in the country, and is absolutely loaded with NFL talent. I didn't believe that last part until I started listing all of the players on this team that will at least get a cup of coffee in the NFL. I'm not saying they'll stick, but they'll eat least get to camps. To wit:

Beathard - Late round pick or UFA
Myers - Mid-round draft pick
Welsh - Lare round pick or UFA
J. Daniels - Early round draft pick
Blythe - Early to mid round draft pick
Walsh - Early to mid round draft pick
Croston - Late round draft pick
Cazeri - UFA - may stick around
Wadley - Late round pick or UFA
L. Daniels - UFA
Krieger-Coble - Late round pick or UFA
Kittle - Late round pick or UFA
Duzey - UFA
Smith - Probably UFA
Vandeberg - Probably UFA
Kidd - Probably UFA
Koehn - Probably UFA
J. Johnson - Early round draft pick
Ott - Late round draft pick or UFA
Meier - Probably UFA
Bazata - Probably UFA
Boettger - Probably UFA
Jewell - Late round draft pick
King - 1st round draft pick
Mabiin - Late round draft pick
Lomax - Late round draft pick

Folks, when considering the breadth of talent, this may be the most talented Iowa team of my lifetime. I'm including 1985, 2002 and 2009. This team is loaded.

I think David was more than a 3 1/2 point underdog to Goliath. Anyone out there find a link to the odds from that showdown?

King is not a first rounder 2/3...but he will be in the league for a while...good player

Actually, in the Biblical story of David vs. Goliath, it may seem like David was indeed the underdog. But he wasn't.

Stone throwers were the best thing militarily at that time against heavy infantry. They could accurately take them out from a distance.

So technically, David was the perfect weapon to defeat Goliath. Just like Iowa is the perfect weapon to defeat Sparty.

While we're at it, in another thread someone referred to MSU at "elite."

They are neither elite nor are they like Goliath. Just plain ol' MSU.

I could be wrong but maybe the OP is trying to say that public perception (outside the Hawkeye fan base) is that Iowa is David and MSU is Goliath.

Regardless, this has been an amazing season that I have enjoyed immensely. No matter what happens on Saturday. Personally, I think Iowa will be very competitive tomorrow.

I don't believe there is a single team in college football right now who would fit the mold of "Goliath." Clearly, Oklahoma is playing the best, but there are no real giants right now.

EZ, that is exactly what was intended by my post. I will be in Indy rooting on he Hawks. If I didn't think they could win, I would have stayed home and watched the game. The chemistry of this team is amazing. Go Hawks!

This was how I took it, as well. In this context, the thread makes sense, IMO.
