This turned into a MUST win at home for us now, Iowa has to get this one.
Just a chipped cartilage cleanup. No repairs. Also, 2-3 weeks after knee surgery? I don't know much about sports injuries, but isn't that kinda quick?
I still don't feel good about this game. The referees haven't changed so the Mich. St. players will do their usual bumping and hand checking. Fran has always struggled to coach out wins against physical teams who take away easy transition points.

If Valentine misses the Iowa game, one of the refs will suit up for MSU. No biggie

It will help the hawks as MSU is not that deep, but still they always are tough in your jock defense will throw our guys for a loop. Our team struggles with "athletic" teams and I have a feeling MSU will be able to force our PG's into turnovers.
I think its a tight game, but MSU will win by 10+pts.
You must not watched MSU much this year. They play 10-12 guys regularly. Izzo wanted to cut the rotation. They have Tum Tum, Forbes ,Harris , Ellis and McQuaid a Freshmen that play guard. Up front they have Costello, Clark ,Bess, Schilling,Davis the McDonalds Freshmen and Goins a walk on who played the best at the 4 this past Saturday. You guys also should remember Wohlerman a walk as well who played a lot at Iowa City. Denzel Valentine is the best player in College basketball.
I honestly expected us to beat them with him.
Now we will probably be favored. It takes a little flavor out of it if we win.
I do, however, remember a couple of years ago when Michigan State came in short handed, we were suppose to win, and we blew it.

I think not. I truly doubt we are favored over the #1 team in the country at home or on the road.
Iowa is so due to beat this freaking team and Izzo it is ridiculous. All of the crap we've endured vs MSU going back to at least 2013 season. Just makes my blood boil, put a beat down on them Hawks, PLEASE!!!!!!As has been alluded to, MSU came to Iowa City shorthanded two years ago, and Iowa--per usual--gave the game away in OT as Marble missed a chip shot in regulation to win and Gesell missed a wild runner in OT to tie. And the Hawkeyes keep saying they're gonna learn from their experience. Well, Dec. 29 would be a nice time to demonstrate all that learnin'.
And no, MSU deserves NO sympathy from Iowa no matter what. No Valentine? Iowa needs to man up and go get one. You can bet MSU will step up.
Playing MSU early has already paid off for Iowa, but can the Hawkeyes take advantage? I'd like to think so, but I've seen the home town boys shrink in the spotlight too many times. A change of scenario would be nice, though.

The number one, two and three most important parts of this game are the officials.
Bob is right, people at the game, please be on them and on them early and loud. Let them know we're sick of Big Ten officials letting Izzo decide how the game is called.
In fact, maybe someone should put a referee jersey in Izzo's seat with a huge "boss" on the back of it for him to wear. Truth in advertising on that one!
You know I'm one of those people who say officials get blamed too much, often times erroneously, but for some odd reason this line of logic seems to fit when Iowa is playing Michigan State. The Big Ten tournament game a couple years back is a case in point. I've never seen an officiating job so egregious and one-sided in my life. The only way Michigan State got back into that game was because the officials swallowed their whistle and let them maul Iowa on defense and conversely blew the whistle anytime an Iowa player was guilty of labored breathing in close proximity to a Michigan State player. It was unbelievable. And not the only game in recent memory Sparty got a large advantage from the zebras against Iowa.
Ah it'll go like it always goes. He'll cry real tears and the zebras will start feeling sorry for the little guy and in the 2nd half, every call will go his way. It's like Groundhog Day.if the officials call fouls like they have been in non-conference..MichSt will be in trouble especially without their leader...I guess we will see if B1G officials can stay the course or be swayed by the little general.
So you're saying losing probably the front runner for B1G POY won't hurt MSU's play. Right. You must not watched MSU much this year. They play 10-12 guys regularly. Izzo wanted to cut the rotation. I have never heard that about the Izzo/Reiner deal. How did Izzo get involved in that? What did he do?Valentine is by far the best player for MSU, but they are still a solid team without him. Hawks won't be favored, but this should give us a very realistic shot to get off to a good start, when the conference schedule looked incredibly difficult. I would gladly take a split with MSU.
I definitely have no sympathy for Izzo, who reportedly worked against Reiner getting a medical redshirt, after he was hurt both his Jr and Sr years.
Long time ago and I don't know if the story was ever substantiated, but I had heard that he sent a letter to NCAA against the proposed medical redshirt. Not sure why he would do that, unless he was afraid that Alford might actually be a threat and have a good team. Too bad, because I think Reiner was the best true center at Iowa in the past 20 years, if he could have stayed healthy.I have never heard that about the Izzo/Reiner deal. Through the grapevine I heard Izzo put in right in Steve Mariucci pooper one night. The story was never substantiated but I still like to tell the story on the internet.Long time ago and I don't know if the story was ever substantiated, but I had heard that he sent a letter to NCAA against the proposed medical redshirt. We aren't deep? What? We regularly play like 11 guys lol
