Depressing..

There are lots of rationalizations, issues and concerns here but the absolute reality is that the final score doesn't lie...especially multiple samples over the course of time. The outcomes are the the outcome. The question that must be asked and answered by all Hawkeye fans is "Are you happy where we are at now?" We've got a significant sample size now and this performance has become a pattern. Are we progressing or just treading time? If we are happy with "2nd place and a chance" then stay the course. If not...I don't know that there are any realistic alternatives at this moment in time.

2nd place is such a politically correct term. I would use "first loser" instead, as it is litlle more descriptive.

Are we progressing or just treading time?
This year, we got second with 127 points and left points on the board (16.5 if 125, 174, 284 wrestle to seed. We gained points/improved, and finished worse.

If you're looking at points as end all be all, then we progressed after regressing.
Last year, we won/tied with 120 points.
2 yrs ago, we scored 135 and finished 2nd.
3 yrs ago, we scored 133.5 and finished 3rd

Nobody wrestles at or above seed at every weight. Lots of wrestlers have nagging injuries. Big 10s is a tough tournament...playing the "what if" game is amusing but we can end up deceivng ourselves into thinking we're better than we really are.

It looks that PSU took it in a slide but if we had 3-4 more pigtail matches with possible extra points (our four #2 seeds haven't wrestled pigtails), Gilman-Megaludis outcome point swing and Stoll being healthy and possibly taking third together with Gullibon going all the way to the finals - how close would we be?
