God, no. As much as I appreciate Fran restoring the Hawks to a respectable program from the depths, it was time to part ways. Mediocre performance the last couple years, plummeting attendance. She did the right thing.
sorry i hurt your feelers. i was one that thought that firing Tom Davis was a mistake, and what happened??? we went to basketball hell for 10/12 years. i said then to be careful of what you wish for. with the whiff on devries its feels eerily similar to that. god I hope not. like many I too got tired of no defense and no rebounding. you want alford or lichliter back???
Why, are you afraid no coaches want to come to the UI and make $4 mill a year. McCollum will unless he gets a better offer.
There are always a dozen really good mid-major head coaches out there that could do well at Iowa.

Firing Davis led to the hiring of Fran, the other guy you want to be coach for life, so seems you were wrong on Davis.

No it should have happened a few years ago. Basketball, Football and Wrestling have all become stale programs in the NIL era. Fan support is mild at best compared to years past where NIL support would have been higher. Administrators and many in the fanbase are to blame. Can't blame the coaches. Elsewhere they would have either been forced to make changes or fired long ago. Too many fans making excuses and administrators too afraid to apply pressure.
Not sure what so many are afraid of. Iowa mens BB is completely irrelevant at this point.

Lickliter Syndrome. They are so terrified of another Todd Lickliter level coach they are willing to accept mediocrity because of what “might” happen. And they have convinced themselves Iowa can’t possibly do any better.

I don't think it was a whiff on Devries. I think she knows exactly who she wants and I have a feeling that te next coach also knows.

You, nor any of us, have no idea if she whiffed on DeVries. Someone else could be target #1 and it may already be done.
Like those are the only choices. We dodged a bullet with DeVries who seemingly is a huge douche canoe. And I’m not of the opinion we get a bit better with Ben McCollum. Iowa needs a dynamic recruiter which we haven’t had since Raveling.

It is easy for fans to say if we really crater with a new coach it's no big deal, we will replace and try again..in other words become the gophers.
Actually going thru seasons like with lick was torturous.
I get fans want something new and I agree.
Just hoping that "new" is not a step down from all those 10 win BIG seasons that many fans mock...try 4 win seasons...but hey it will be

Davis wasn't fired ....his contract wasn't renewed ...and it was made known a year early ...there is a difference you know..if you want to be technical....or...maybe you don't know the difference....you can thank Bowlsby for that cluster......killed recruiting for at least a year....and then hired the POS with the pretty hair who didn't believe in paying his restaurant tab in Iowa City.....or in defending a female student athlete who was sexually assaulted by one of his players. Alford was a worse hire than Lickliter.....and then Bowlsby bolted for Stanford.
Can't believe anyone is questioning the decision. Fran never understood defense and never hired an assistant who could. We saw games this year where we were giving up 90+ sometimes 100 points, layup line, weak fouls that went for and1s. Not a single player fouled out all year. We barely saw timeouts called to stop an opponent run or coach a teaching point. Dembele got 7x the minutes Brauns got, and once Brauns saw the floor in the latter part of the schedule we saw that there was some serious roster mismanagement with regards to Brauns. We had a guy that could've helped us win some earlier games and he just flat out wasn't used. He should've been fired midseason for a Gatens interim.
We need someone younger, hungrier, and cheaper. Rinse and repeat until you find a coach that can coach both sides and locate NIL bargains that can be developed into a sweet 16 team. No more giant extensions ever.
