Obviously the NC talk is ridiculous. But I think its reasonable to expect more West titles/championship appearances.

Kirk isn't too far off. It just takes overcoming 1 or 2 games a season. And that really just means coming up with a gameplan to consistently beat NW, Purdue and Wisconsin. Especially with nebby and Illinois down.

The wins the last 5 years have been awesome and a lot of great memories. No title to show for it though. And this team setting itself up to be 6-0 (regardless of preseason expectations) put itself perfectly in the driver's seat. It would suck to see it wasted.

We will see how good Purdue ends up being but I think that is where the frustration comes from. It can be argued this team has beat greater challenges this year than Purdue at home (again maybe Purdue is the best team it's faced)....so getting beat like that is hard to swallow....especially when this team looked so unprepared. It just makes it seem like battling the last 6 weeks was for nothing.

Now obviously its not....still can win the West so I'm still all in. Go hawks!

I'll start this off saying that I'm a lifelong fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes that goes back generations. This season was set up perfectly for us to win a National Championship and that is all gone now because we couldn't beat Purdue of all teams. I'm tired of the such lackluster offense. The QB sneak on 3rd and 2 the first time was a genius move but you can't just repeat a play like that and expect it to work. Look at how Brohm handled the Purdue offense, completely out coached. Did we even realize David Bell was on the field today? The guy has been a Hawkeye killer since Day 1 and it's like we didn't even know that. He now has the most receiving yards ever at Kinnick and with our offense that will never be broken which is very disappointing. Hayden Fry is probably rolling in his grave after seeing the box score yesterday and that makes me sad.

I'm still hopeful we can win out but as a lifelong fan, I've seen this story too many times. I think it's time to move on from Kirk, especially after all the negative press the last few years. He's been a great coach but he looks completely lost when he faces any adversity against a better coach. Let's use the bye week to get better like Purdue did and run the table.
David who?🤔

Re: the success the last five/six years, one factor that needs to be taken into account is the fact that we're in the west, which means we may have 1-2 more wins per year than we'd have in the east or in a non-divisional situation.

If KF had to play OSU/PSUtMichigan every year he would be .550 coach. There is a reason those shared conference championships have giant astriks beside them.

Well Coach Orgeron is now available and his players love him and Urban will be available soon. Expectations? An offense that isn’t stuck in the 1940’s would be a start.
Meyer's not coming to Iowa any more then he's going to coach Kansas. He's made his rep going into schools stacked with talent and won big, and then left scorched earth on his way out the door everywhere he's been. Not to mention the guys a A1 first class lier and a snake. Dude just had to make a VERY public apology to his players (and his wife, again) for getting caught bumping uglies with his new 24 year old girl in his bar instead of heading back with the Jags and trying to get their ship straightened out. Not who I'd want coaching our program, and he'd never come to Iowa anyway. As for Orgeron, another guy who's a serious retread. Why exactly do you think he's been from here to there, to there to there in so few years?

So what Penn State joined in 1993 which was after Hayden won his 2 shared and 1 outright Big 10 championships. Your point about asterisks is stupid.
No it isn't and you know it. The first one, we didn't play the eventual national champion that came from our conference and the 2nd one OSU was 4-4 in conference and we needed help. Same as anyone who knows the real situation talking about Michigan's 97s NC.

Overreact much? Let's move on from the coach that just won 12 straight. Do you realize how insanely stupid your post is. How many teams have a shot at winning a National Title each year...legitimately. I would say it's less than 5-6 teams. That's exclusive company.

Here is the deal...Iowa lost 3 players on the DL and a linebacker that are playing in the NFL...as well as a few other players that made practice squads for NFL teams. The fact that the defense is playing so well...is a testament to the coaches you want to remove. They have young guys making plays and we are good on that side of the ball.

As for the offense...you can't win a game when you can't protect your QB. Our offensive line is struggling in a big way. I don't believe it's coaching...it's all inexperience and playing young players. So, if you want to bitch about recruiting misses on the OL over the years and why we have a true freshman and a redshirt freshman starting...that's all open season...have at it.

For the last time, Purdue caught us coming out of a big game win, and a tough 6 game stretch. If you look at the schedule...none of the first six were gimmies. Have you noticed Kent State & Colorado State are winning in their conferences. Sure a step down in competition, but they may win their conferences. Purdue was fresh with two weeks to prep, and Brohm is probably one of the best offensive strategists in the Big Ten. We also had a few players out...Deontae Craig and Moss being out hurt us on defense...and Lachey out hurt on offense.

Try not to be stupid.

All that talent they lost and they still didn't win the division.

Fire the oline coach?

Excuses are like a$$holes, everyone has one, and they stink.

If the Hawks were so stacked last year why didn’t they win the West? Oh, I remember……it’s because Iowa blew a 17 point lead and our juggernaut offense coached by the innovative genius Brian Ferentz scored ZERO points in the second half.

Just like they scored ZERO points in the second half Saturday. Seeing a pattern here?

I am a life long fan like many others----my first Iowa game was 1949 against Northwestern. Seen some real highs over the years and seen some real lows

Perhaps we should put the Purdue game in perspective by reading the sign posted on a window last week at the Stead Family Hospital---I hope many saw it ''

"Connor needs a kidney""

You want the coaches fired after winning 12 straight games. You are an idiot for thinking that. Nebraska fans aren't even that stupid. They draw the line at 9-3 when they fired Pelini. Right now, you rate below a Nebraska fan as far as being delusional. Do you know how rare that is? It's legendary level delusion.

We don’t need to move on from Kirk. Kirk just needs to be realistic. Fire or demote Brian, bring in a proven “good” offensive coordinator AND let him run the offense his way.

I agree that KF shouldn't be fired but B and C aren't happening. BF gets away with things no other OC would under Kirk. Pretty sure the kneel-down at the end of the first half wasn't Brian's idea. It smacked of the end of regulation at OSU in 2009.

I know B and C won’t happen. But it should.

Kirk had his chance when he hired Polasek…..should have been the OC, which he was successful at at NDSU, instead of being made to coach the oline, which he had never done before.

Perspective? I remember Drew Tate slinging the ball around and dominating teams like it was child's play 20 years ago. We were on a huge upward trajectory at that time and have gone down hill since with a season or 2 here and there. This was a magical season set up after rushing the field last week. I had tears in my eyes watching us beat Penn State how we did. Now I have tears in my eyes realizing it was all for nothing after losing yet again to Purdue.

And now we have a bye week so we all have 2 weeks to sit on this anger without taking it out on an opponent. I hope we go back to square one and bring back the Iowa football we all love and admire.
Not sure where this troll really calls home but Drew Tate lost 14 games in 3 years. Defense carried the "04 team just like now. Tate had some good games but threw for 18 TDs and 13 Ints his senior year. 52% passer...
If we can't roll this Wisconsin team this year, we have big problems and Kirk should be fired coming off the field. I expect us to win easily.
Wisconsin has the # 2 defense in the country according to some metrics...

We had just won 12 games in a row. I hope Kirk stays lost. Good Lord, what an idiotic post.

I hear you and recommend that you move on from Iowa. That would be much easier than firing a hall-of fame coach who has his team at #11 with a struggling offense.
Would you knock off the HOF BS. This is a coach who can't even win his own division because his offense
struggles EVERY year.

If someone told you before the season Iowa would be 6-1 and ranked #11, would you have taken it not knowing how they got there? I believe 99% would say heck yes.
What if someone told you Iowa would be 6-0, ranked number 2, but then get curb stomped by an unranked Purdue team the next game?

I don't think Iowa could hire someone better than Kirk. There might be better OCs out there than Brian Ferentz. Are they going to come to Iowa? No.

I don't have a loser mentality. I see, and have seen, everything that goes into winning at Iowa. A very specific style is required. (Think Princeton in basketball)

The only way you could play a different style is to get better athletes. There isn't a coach out there that has the ability to recruit the kind of athletes to Iowa that it would require to play that style offense and win a natty.
WOW. Your entire post is upside down! Yes, you absolutely do have a loser mentality.

The right guys would fight to get the Iowa OC job. They would see a solid program with excellent defense and ST, but with an inept offense that's prevented a rise to the top. What an opportunity for them to be the difference maker and gain national attention. And it could be done quite quickly. Most of the talent is already there.

The only thing you have right is, yes, it does require a different style---one with more brains. Do you think Purdue has better athletes? They don't. They, and a bunch of other teams just play smarter. The playing equation has 2 parts: talent and methods. Methods, at the margin, is more important (sorry, but I don't even expect you to know what that means).

Who are you hiring at OC? Who was fighting to get this job prior to BF? Greg Davis? That worked out swimmingly worth a national championship winning OC with a way different scheme...

And yes, Purdue does have better skilled position players than Iowa does this year.

Talent is FAR superior to method. What team has won a natty that isn't decked with 4 and 5 star recruits? None.

Our method is what it is because of the talent level we can draw at Iowa.
