Do you support food stamps?

Do you?

Being in the north florida/south georgia area, I hear the more extreme narratives on this subject frequently. Just a bunch of good for nothings waiting for their handouts, enjoying their government purchased 85" TVs and lobster/caviar they purchased on EBT. Living large while the goodly conservative folk toil away to pay for poor people to live extravagantly. This is consistent with the steady messaging they receive from their favorite news sources and politicians.
Hmm. I live in NoFla/SoGa area (Jacksonville) and I’ve also lived all over the US.
There are people everywhere who think negatively about any sort of assistance - from EBT to Section 8 housing.
I have an extended family member who lost their job because Covid shut down their office. They became eligible for unemployment and EBT for about six months. Literally it was a lifeline for them and being what we’d call a “hard worker” it wasn’t easy for them to apply for the benefits in the first place.
(They’ve been back at work for over three years now)

When I was a student my job would only let us work like 16-18 hours per week. To qualify for food stamps I had to work at least 20 hours a week. I asked my job to allow more hours and they told me to pound sand.

They need to be required to eat healthier food.

Funny story. Wife and I were in St Louis in Kirkwood. At a grocery store an older lady came up and asked for help with food.. Wife said yes. She picked out filet mignon and other nice items totaling about 100. We played along with it as she left the store (we followed) her to a nice Cadillac and continued to follow her to a gated neighborhood.

It was a hilarious experience and worth the 100. I figured she was living life under a trust and the trustee cut her off at the end of the month.

I'm surprised you'd raise an example of the entitled using food stamps. Quite out of the model of MAGA. While struggling people doing what they can do survive is entertaining to the cruel and unempathetic, it seems bringing attention of fraud by the well-healed is something you'd avoid.

The monies ponied out in the way of subsidies in the same universe as SNAP is marginally credible. I always thought it comical the most vocal critiques of SNAP are farmers.

Close.

"10 For even when we were with you, we would give you this command: If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat. 11 For we hear that some among you walk in idleness, not busy at work, but busybodies. 12 Now such persons we command and encourage in the Lord Jesus Christ to do their work quietly and to earn their own living."

2 Thessalonians 3:10–12

Note that "not willing to" is not the same as "not able to", and should be treated differently.

What about his children?

What about his children?

So I don't misunderstand, what is your point? That there should be a great big pot of money, into which anyone can dip and take whatever they want? That we shouldn't try to differentiate between people who need help, and others who might be committing fraud, or otherwise trying to "game the system" for their own benefit?

Unfortunately this only applies to poor people. If you're wealthy and don't work you eat just fine. Investment and money are more important in our country than labor.

We need a hand up system. We are largely a paycheck to paycheck country and things happen. Giving multimillion dollar corporate farms handouts is a much different issue.

Being not in favor or Trump or Harris/Biden does not make one MAGA so just stop it. Also, I never once said she was on food stamps. As mentioned she likely has a trustee and limits what her spending is for some reason. Not mine to state.

Nice try asshole.

so...this lady asked you for help, and then you basically didn't help her, and then you followed her home laughing at her?

what point were you trying to make with this story?
No, I did pay for it. What story are you trying to create asshole.
