Early Minnesota/Purdue Probables

Ok I’m starting to get a little disappointed. Love the staff and they know way more than I will ever know about wrestling but why in God’s green earth is Kem and Ayala not listed! Can we win without Spencer yes but we NEED Kem & Ayala in the lineup to have a chance!

Well no I wouldn't, but it is getting late in the year if he wants to allocate a spot for the B1G at NCAAs. I believe it is an 8 match minimum against D1 opponents. That is why I would assume that we would see him starting this weekend. I also understand that it really doesn't matter if he allocates a spot for the big ten. He can wrestle just at Big tens and NCAAs for all I care. Those are the things that matter.

Makes sense to give Swafford a home match after pulling his shirt, I would be surprised if Kem does not wrestle at least one of the two duals.
Where is Nelson?

EDIT: I saw in another thread that he requires surgery and is out for the season. Don’t know if this is confirmed.

I don't really care if he allocates a spot as long as he finishes in one of the spots. Yes it helps his chances but if he is in such a bad way that he couldn't finish top 5 it's a moot point.

If Kem does come back and he doesn’t have enough matches to allocate a spot for the big ten is that gonna matter? I don’t see that it does. I would be shocked if Kem cones back and doesn’t steal someone’s seed. When he comes back he’ll qualify as long as he’s healthy.

Couldn't agree more. Would I like to see him wrestle each dual here on out, sure. But if it's not in his best interest for the end of the season, then I trust the staff.

Minny won't be a threat to beat Iowa.
Without being a "chicken little" approach... best case scenario for Minny is 125 by TF, 149 dec, 157 dec, 174 dec, 184 dec, Hwt MD. That's 21 and a 6-4 split. I think Eggum pushes O'Reilly/Sparks up to 174 and concedes 165.

Eggum having 133/141/165 laying on their bellies would be enough for a Iowa loss.

To me, Murin's match is the tipping point.

That's reverse psychology, right?

CHA has had a lot of fans in the seats this year (considering the circumstances of last minute date/opponent change vs. Army), but there has been a noticeable lack of crowd energy even for the level of competition. The Spencer news obviously wasn't going to help things, but I was hoping Drake being the guy on Friday night would give the crowd a boost. Oh well.

No worries. I heard Desanto is going to have gold sparklers attached to his singlet as he chases his guy around the mat. That fireworks display should get the crowd amped up. Spencer is going to be the honorary sparkler igniter.

Considering Sparks defaulted out of the scuffle I'm guessing Cael Carlson might be the 165. He was 3rd at scuffle.

O'Reilly was already at 174 for the scuffle and handled Swafford.

Minny stands a chance of losing every one of them except heavy.

I'd love for that to be true, but without DA and with the KY of the last several weeks...Iowa will be big underdogs at 125 and 157.

And this is coming from the biggest Gopher hater on this forum.

Is Iowa without DA? I haven't heard that announcement. KY is a toss up. Yeah, he is wrestling poorly but not an unbeatable opponent.

Having 40% of our expected lineup out each match will suck the energy out of the room.

The crowd energy is definitely related to never seeing the lineup we are expecting to see. Spencer being out will definitely sting even more. I will be there Friday for sure supporting the guys but I would be lying if I said I was not disappointed in the probable lineups. It sucks but I get it I guess.

Sadly, same.

This will actually be my first Hawkeye wrestling match ever- bringing the 3 boys and my dad.

Related: how early should we arrive? Is there anything going on before the meet? (ie, at basketball games, we will often go early to watch teams warm up)

Any other tips for a first timer?

Having thought about this more, I’m still pretty confident that Brands pulls Ayala’s shirt and he wrestles McKee tomorrow. The shock value that it’ll bring to the crowd will have that place rocking even before a whistle blows. It would be enough to throw even a really good wrestler like McKee off his game.

Maybe TnT just playing mind games with the fightin Eggums?

Brother, I hate that this will be your first experience since it seems like the lineup will be a bit off and MN Is not what it once was. That said, don’t think this experience will be the norm. When teams like PSU, OSU and tOSU come to town - and those are the only teams I’ve seen wrestle at CHA - that place is packed and it’s electric and it’s amazing!! It’s like Rudy’s dad going to the Notre Dame game in the movie, Rudy…just fricking magical, energizing, amazing!!! If you get a chance get tickets to the PSU dual at the end of the month and you’ll see what I mean. I’ve been to a ton of professional sporting events but there’s no experience like a rowdy, rocking, sold out CHA!!

I avoided posting that because I didn't want to jinx it. Now you've done it!

There is a possibility of some non-dual matches happening prior to the dual. Not sure how far in advance of the dual these take place or if/when any will be announced.

Also, be there early so you can get a Carver cone without missing any action!

Lol, i almost commented on the carver cone, saying i didnt plan to let any of my kids have one, full knowing that my middle son would probably stand in line the whole meet just to spite me.

I think these matches happen well before the doors open. The last dual meet vs Princton, there was a few extra matches that took place hours before the meet without any fans in the seats. Cause didnt Assad wrestle an extra match against the same kid Wilson wrestled in the dual?

Yeah, I’m pretty sure you are right about Assad/Wilson wrestling the same guy.
