Eierman in the Transfer Portal

Holy hell...I thought he was true blue Mizzou.
There have been whispers of a falling out between his step-dad and smith. I remember when some were talking of a big possible transfer last spring, his name was one that came up.

There is a massive difference between someone like Eierman transferring compared to a Kerkvliet, who has let to wrestle a colligate match. Eierman has already spent 4 years at Mizzou and has one more opportunity to win a team title and probably more importantly to him, an individual national title.

We quickly forget that these are kids/ young adults that are competing for a SCHOOL. There are rules and guidelines he has to follow to even make the transfer successful, though I have no doubt he'll fine. But many of you doubters seem to think it's just a walk in the park for a kid to pack up and transfer to a different location, like a free agent hitting the open market. This couldn't be further from the truth.

Remember, at this point they aren't wrestling for money, they're wrestling for their future. A one-time transfer isn't an unfair thing, especially at this level. I sincerely hope he considers Iowa, but if he doesn't, then best of luck to him and I hope he finds what he's looking for. Unless he's competing against Iowa... then I hope he finds it later.

Hasn't it already been that way? I don't recall a season where there are any more than 3-4 teams with a chance at the title in March.

In a given season, yes, it usually is down to a small number of teams with the potential to win that year. Over time though, the number of potential players is a little larger, but still small.

If we relax the rules to such a point though that every "hole" can, PRESTO, be filled with a high quality transfer...that small number may be reduced even further...perhaps down to one.

Hypothetical question, for those that favor the relaxed transfer rules?

If it is all about the athlete, why not let them transfer in mid-season if they want to?

I may be in the minority on this, but this "easy trading" of athletes between schools is not a good thing IMO. Even if the Hawks benefit from it on any given athlete, I don't think it is a positive for the sport overall to migrate towards a situation where there are only 3 or 4 teams, shoot, maybe only 1 or 2 at this rate, that can compete for a title every year. FWIW.

This has been the case forever, the transfer portal isn't changing the landscape of college wrestling. Only 12 teams have won titles in 90 years. Of those 12, 5 teams (Okla. St, Iowa, IA State, PSU, and Oklahoma) have won 81 of 90 titles. This argument is lazy.

Iowa and ohio state seem to be good destinations depending on his weight choice. If he wants 149 then iowa is the better choice bc of Sasso but OSU would be a better fit for 141. Both teams have solid rtc's but iowa doesn't have a training partner at the level of Logan stieber around his weight (other than the brands bros obv but I don't know how much they can really roll around at a high level these days). I doubt he would look at PSU with Zain also training there who seems to have eirmann pretty well figured out already.

Also, I wouldn't sleep on a healthy NATO. He is certainly not a prohibitive favorite or even top 3 atm but if he is healthy he does have a high ceiling

Ohio State has Pletcher at 141 for next season. I don't think they make sense.

I'm not sure if we're a fit personality wise, since it seems like Mike Eierman is not a fan, but maybe Jaydin himself is?

I think Okie State is a great fit.

Exactly. Little of nothing changed for wresting. You have always been able able to transfer once (in wrestling and some other Olympic sports) without sitting. The only thing that changed is coaches can no longer deny your transfer or block specific schools. In wrestling, I personally know of only one instance where a transfer was blocked resulting in loss of eligibility and that was VTech and we all know that story. The portal simply lets all coaches know of the intent to transfer and they can then begin contacting. Nothing new here except every coach in the the nation knows within 48 hours of the potential intent to transfer.

Fair, but don't ignore the opposite happening a lot too. I.e. Suriano to Rutgers. Former low AA loses his spot at PSU, Iowa, Ohio State etc. and transfers to fill a hole at Minnesota, ISU, etc.

We don't have enough info to say if this will be good or bad for the sport, all we know is that it will be good for the wrestlers.

I thought Pletcher is a Sr. this year.

He is. I would guess the plan is for Kinner to slide back up to 141 and Decatur moves into 133, but Kinner losing 1 year seems like a fair price to pay for a guy like Eierman. You could also have Sasso slide up to 157 and Eierman go 149 and nobody loses a year.

I'm okay with the transfer portal. A student athlete should be allowed one time to transfer if things just are not working out. Things change, coaches change and sometimes it isnt working out. Just because Cael is going to out recruit everyone on this doesnt mean a kid cant better himself and his environment. Thats an us problem if Brands cant take complete advantage of this just the same.

So I ask anyone who is against this is it because you dont want whats best for the kid or just hurt feelings if it doesn't fall Iowa's way?

Be honest
I like different teams having champs and placers. Heck, I loved it that VT got champ last year. I do not want OSU, tOSU, Iowa, and PSU to be the only team with champs etc and having them be almost guaranteed the 1,2,3, and 4 spots at the NCAA tournament. This really seems like it will take away a big part of the charm of the NCAA tourney to me. When guys like Meredith from Wyoming were fighting for a title, it was fun to watch and pull for the kid. Kyle Conel is another example. I would have pulled for h I'm a lot more if he were still at Kent State than at PSU. Now they can just say, ah heck, I am going to transfer somewhere else and leave the team hanging.
I do not know what is best for the kid, but for me, I like loyalty and watching the kids from smaller schools do well.

Yeah, but it is nice to see a NC State get a trophy and a UM get one. It would be nice to see a UNC get one. It was great to see Cornell get one. It is starting to look like it will be 1 of 4 teams fighting for a trophy every year. Kind of boring to me.

Except after the first year the NLI is no longer in effect. There are no more guarantees of scholarships and said scholarships can be pulled away at any time for any reason.
They are young adults, but when it comes to wrestling I'm pretty sure they know what's best for them.
We can't judge Eierman while we sit back and ride the accolades of Desanto, Lugo and eventually Teasdale. We can't have it both ways.

I would love that personality in Carver, but all the smoke about how much his dad dislikes Iowa....man, this would be great.

Rumor from another board - Dad took a job at ISU. No idea the validity of it. Just what the board said.

And I'm not taking a shot at you btw.

So would you take Eierman for 1 year or Echemendia for 4. I know, the correct answer is both but if you could take one?

Personally I would take Eierman. Just speculating but Echemendia seems like a risk to me. I could see him just going the freestyle route at some point. Again, that is just uneducated speculation.

My guess is Nebraska. Family ties. Good club team. They recruited him out of high school.

I don’t see Iowa but he does follow us on Twitter. Flo did an interview and he mentioned this school recruited him out of HS... PSU, NEB and MIZ were main suitors.

I saw him win 4 titles here in MO and he was wearing Hawkeye socks in at least one of them. I also heard his dad might be headed to ISU but have no clue. Who's running their RTC now? What's ISU look like at 41/49?

AA Degen at 49 and Ian Parker at 41 who is a solid qualifier/AA contender. He has some really nice wins (Demas, Brock, Desanto, Murin).

141 is no issue unless Gomez can't make 133 next year, 149 is AA Degen who is a Jr. He is tall enough to go 157 but Carr would have to go 165 for that to work. I thought Carr Sr. was running the club.

But they don't really have the dominate RTC that he's craving, right?
If I were a betting man, which I'm not, but if I was, I'd say Nebraska.
With Green at 70kg and Burroughs at 74kg...you can't get better than the two best middle weights in the country in the same room. Unfortunately it makes sense.

I think maybe you were a bito_O that’s ok we are all here in good fun. I’m not sure where he will end up but he is going to be a great addition and if JDen is part of that equation lookout. I think JDen is staying at the OTC with Jackson at least till after the Olympics

Degen’s advantaged has alway being a lanky light weight and using length and his leg ride. Going up would put his leg defense at risk and negate his advantage. He needs to stay 49. My kid was 6’ 2” wrestling at 120 as a sophomore last year. We watch a lot of Degen.

If they go to PSU, I hate the transfer portal and imagine that Carl is playing dirty.

If they go anywhere else, I'm all for it. ;)
