Espn Omaha- Iowa's History Shows They Wont Win The West

Unfortunately, living in Omaha I hear a lot of Nebraska sports talk radio. On my drive home yesterday, they talked about Iowa and their chances to win the West. They still think Iowa is a pretender and like NW. One guy said based on previous Iowa teams, thats a negative on winning the West. Hawks either start off slow or can't finish the season strong. He basically said that all he needs to look at is the history of Iowa/Kirk and he's convinced that it wont happen. They talked about our ugly wins and we don't put style points on the board. Ive noticed that any time an Iowa topic comes up, compared to other Big Ten teams, they have the attitude of "Meh.." Beating Northwestern is not going to make people believers. We need to finish strong and I think this team can.

Thoughts on Injuries: Im not one to complain about injuries, unless the starting QB is out. I don't think we should make any excuses about injuries because we are fortunate enough to have a coach that builds depth. Im reading Iowa fans complaining on NW message boards about injuries and it makes me sick seeing that. Every team has injuries, every year the good teams power through them. We can be that team. As a Packers fan, I saw a depleted football team win the Super Bowl in 2011. Leadership is important and that's an underrated trait this team has.

Do you see something different in this team? What will it take for people to actually appreciate our type of football?
My thoughts, never. Win games and it doesn't matter.

Yeah what you said, who needs to tell mom, hawks will roll that terrible team in November. I am calling my shot now, nebby will cancel the football program after our hawks roll in there and crush them. My mind is clouded by my love of hawks football. Completely false. Way less talk of Hawks over there then of Neb over here. Please win the next 4 games against Neb so that the Hawks will be .500 versus Neb since 1999. Then you may start to earn some respect from Neb and national CFB types in the media, since that is obviously what most of you crave.

I certainly don't give a rats ass if anybody from Nebraska respects the Hawks, and I highly doubt that beating Nebraska would make Iowa look better in the eyes of the "national CFB types in the media".

I can understand. However, I'm guessing you didn't watch the Iowa (Wisconsin) game in Dyersville with parents, then travel 400 miles to watch the Huskers lose on Sunday by DVR at home in Lincoln. It gets a little confusing but I root for both teams.

Since we last spoke I feel like some things happened: 1) Did you see Iowa go 12-0 2) Did you find it as humorous as I did that #12 came at Lincoln (your remember talking all tough about that game) 3) Sooooo it turns out Nebby really sucks with their 5-7 record (could be 5-8 soon) 4) I will post some pictures poolside sometime in January, you will have had a lot of time by that point to think about a few things since your season is presumably over (or will be soon if you get to play in the toilet bowl sitting at 5-7.......hope to see you around soon, I really have been wanting to speak with you
