Whats the most f** memory you guys have for Hawks? I know my personal is, besides CC winning it all a few weeks ago, was Ramos senior year in Ames. It was a lot of f** watching him push the clown out of bounds and almost falling off the stage and then when the match was over he waved to the crowd and got booed by all the clown fans. It was great. I know I don't have the old time memories that you guys have and am looking forward to learning things from all of your great stories.

Ramos beating Oliver. And when Ramos won his title...I won the Stubhub upgrade so we had great seats for that.

My first NCAA...Eric Juergens winning to put Iowa ahead of ISU (and Pritzlaff subsequently beating...a Sanderson?...to let Iowa clinch the title...we cheered louder than the Wisky fans by us when he won.

Borschel taking home one of the plants that lined the red carpet after the 2008 finals.

Vivid memory of Steve Martin slamming his headgear down after a loss at nationals in OK City in 1988 or so. Somehow it bounced up to about chest high. Fun? Maybe not, but a Hawk memory for me for sure. Had been to Granby camp in VA with him as an instructor the summer before so I felt his pain so to speak. Like watching a hero get beat.

Dropping my older brother off for Iowa wrestling camp and seeing Barry Davis roll in on his Honda. Shadow or Nighthawk? Don't remember.

If this thread gets rolling, it could go on forever!

I'm fairly confident something in my body was not right for a second when Ramos got that takedown. I was so pumped and hyped that I felt numbed and had to take a second. That place was absolutely rocking that match.

Lou pinning Baumgartner in NCAA finals 1981.

Not a real notable one, but Jake Kerr beating 4th ranked Cyler Sanderson to add salt in the already gaping/hemorrhaging wound that Cael was given in his return to Iowa City as the Head Coach of the Nitany Lions. Little did we know at that time what that program was going to turn into but that night in 2010 at Carver was extremely hostile and only got worse for the Sanderson crew when Cyler got beat.

Chest high on Steve? Not impressed.

That popped into my head as well. It was a lot of f** that night.

Going old school here. John Bowlsby pinning Robin Wisman of ISU to tie the meet at 19 in the old Fieldhouse in the late 70's. This was back in the day when Iowa and ISU had a home-and-home series. The Fieldhouse and Hilton were routinely packed for those meets. Both teams were stacked with talent. The rivalry has never been more intense. Plus, both teams had really charismatic guys. We had guys like Yagla, Cyzewski, and Chris Campbell, while they had guys like Frank Santana, Joe Zuspan, and Mike Land. Not sure if all of those guys were in the lineup for that meet, but that was their era, certainly. Santanta was hated like no rival wrestler has ever been hated. He was a showboat and loved to taunt the Iowa crowd. He was also tough as nails and extremely tough to beat, which just made Iowa fans hate him even more. All in good fun, of course, but it made for a tremendous rivalry and added immeasurably to the intensity of the dual meets -- which actually meant something back in the day, and you wouldn't dream of holding anyone out of a dual meet back then. (I'm told Santana is a terrific guy, BTW -- would love to have a cold one with him some time and reminisce about the rivalry).

Anyway, ISU obviously led 19-13 with the heavyweights coming up, and Hawk fans were willing to take a tie just to avoid the sting of a loss at home to ISU. Wisman was another massive ISU heavyweight, back in the day when there was no 285 limit. Probably outweighed Bowlsby, a pretty big heavy in his own right, by about 50 lbs. But John still delivered, as he did on many occasions. To this day, probably the loudest moment I've ever witnessed in the history of Iowa wrestling. The place went nuts. Now, THAT was f**.

Oklahoma State decided to get clever one year, wanted to move their #1 ranked 158lb up a weight to wrestle our #1 ranked 167lb Royce Alger. The Okie State guy wanted to wrestle on the edge of the mat like usual for them and whenever they'd go out Royce just gave him a little shove. The Okie kid got pissed and shoved Royce back. Royce went calmly to the center with a big grin on his face and grabbed him, put him on his back and pinned him!!! It was awesome!!! Then Rico went out the next match and pinned his guy too

Boom

Brooks Simpson pinning Voelker.

I've shared this before, but I was in elementary school that year and my Dad (a basketball guy) took me to that meet. When Simpson reversed and pinned Voelker it was the loudest explosion of noise I heard my life. I've been to some big sporting moments across the country, and that topped them all in electricity. I asked my dad to put me in wrestling that night.

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned Zalesky destroying Nate Carr. That one was hard to top on the f** scale.

Terry teching Jeff Prescott - teaching him to stop screwing with Zaputil. Tom 33-19 slaughter of Joey Gilbert in the 1991 semis - Tom teaching Gilbert to quit screwing with Tom.

Brinzer after his third place match in Ames. Iowa crowd going nuts as he kind of meanders over to the corner, grabs his glasses, looks up at the crowd and kind of goofily waves like "oh, hi, now that I can see you I see you are cheering for me. Wow, thanks. Where's Gumby?"

Didn't Gable have to point to the crowd to get his attention?

If I remember right two guys warmed up for that match. Coaches pulled a name out of a hat when it was go time and pointed at Kerr. He went out and got it done!

That was exciting for sure! Would be a good addition if the Minnesota board had a F** thread. Even though it would be much shorter than most threads over there, you guys should try it!
I guarantee Sammy sticking the shit out of Gilberg would be in it!
