Going old school here. John Bowlsby pinning Robin Wisman of ISU to tie the meet at 19 in the old Fieldhouse in the late 70's. This was back in the day when Iowa and ISU had a home-and-home series. The Fieldhouse and Hilton were routinely packed for those meets. Both teams were stacked with talent. The rivalry has never been more intense. Plus, both teams had really charismatic guys. We had guys like Yagla, Cyzewski, and Chris Campbell, while they had guys like Frank Santana, Joe Zuspan, and Mike Land. Not sure if all of those guys were in the lineup for that meet, but that was their era, certainly. Santanta was hated like no rival wrestler has ever been hated. He was a showboat and loved to taunt the Iowa crowd. He was also tough as nails and extremely tough to beat, which just made Iowa fans hate him even more. All in good fun, of course, but it made for a tremendous rivalry and added immeasurably to the intensity of the dual meets -- which actually meant something back in the day, and you wouldn't dream of holding anyone out of a dual meet back then. (I'm told Santana is a terrific guy, BTW -- would love to have a cold one with him some time and reminisce about the rivalry).
Anyway, ISU obviously led 19-13 with the heavyweights coming up, and Hawk fans were willing to take a tie just to avoid the sting of a loss at home to ISU. Wisman was another massive ISU heavyweight, back in the day when there was no 285 limit. Probably outweighed Bowlsby, a pretty big heavy in his own right, by about 50 lbs. But John still delivered, as he did on many occasions. To this day, probably the loudest moment I've ever witnessed in the history of Iowa wrestling. The place went nuts. Now, THAT was f**.
