Some of you may remember that I’ve mentioned an old diplomat who has visited our store a few times over the past couple of years. He stopped by again today—and, honestly, he scared the hell out of me with what he had to say about Trump’s actions.
According to him, his contacts are sounding the alarm: the United States, as we know it, is changing in ways that may not be irreversible for quite some time. Our relationship with Europe is permanently damaged—our diplomacy is effectively dead, and we may never regain their trust.
He believes Trump’s next targets will be Taiwan and then South Korea. Asian leaders, he says, are still in denial, convinced that the U.S. remains the force for good it once was. But under this administration, that simply won’t be the case.
He also pointed out that part of what Elon Musk is doing ties into this shift—specifically, that his actions are partly driven by a strategy to gain control over government pensions, using them as a deterrent against opposition.
Trump has undone 80 years of diplomacy, and even with future stable leadership, the damage may be irreversible.

The level of concern is certainly warranted. That said "never" and "irreversable" are rarely actually the case.

Another point he made was that he believes it's time for Obama, W, and Clinton to come together, speak out, and lead rallies. It would be powerful for the three former presidents to unite in publicly condemning Trump’s authoritarian attempts to reshape the country’s identity.
