FAFO Mega Thread

No government worker, teacher, farmer or union member should ever vote Republican. Yet many do and some are finding out the hard way why they shouldn’t.

Some pretty sad examples in the bsky thread of veterans holding government jobs who are now SOL (and probably unable to find private sector jobs due to disabilities from prior combat injuries).

Democrats REALLY need to source these folks out, and start making 2026 and 2028 campaign videos of their stories.

This is both an eye opener and horrible sign for the MAGA military and military industrial complex supporters.

Keeping it real, if there really is a shadow government / deep state / new world order entity pulling strings, Elon and the Donald will likely die from natural causes before Christmas this year.
Good, maybe European countries realize they need to really help defend their own countries.

If only the people that didn't think stuff could happen to them or their family knew that stuff can happen to them and their family.

The people they elect have the exact same attitudes: No empathy for anyone but themselves.

So, should be unsurprising that the Leopards eat their faces here.
It's really a main reason the GOP does what it does - they simply do not care about their own electorate. They just want power, and will gerrymander their way to seats.

Dems (who actually care about their constituents, and try to pass laws that will actually benefit them) are at a severe disadvantage, because they don't want to take the actions they need to, which will also hurt some of their own voters. They hesitate to do things that might be detrimental to some.

The GOP could shut off the DOGE nonsense in 24-48 hrs if they wanted to. They won't, though, because they simply do not care.

I’m a Federal employee and have been one for almost 10 years. I spent my early career in the private and non-profit sector before going Federal. I could easily make way more in the private sector but I love my work, I love our mission, and I work with amazing people. I’ve worked for two Departments and four administrations during my tenure, starting with Obama, then Trump, then Biden, and now as we all know, Trump 2.0. I can say the people I’ve worked with are honest, passionate, hard-working, and amazing people. All Federal employees swear an oath when we start our Federal careers, and that oath is to the Constitution. In my nearly 10 years of Federal work, I have never seen it remotely as bad as it is now, and coworkers with two to three times the length of my tenure are saying the same.

On our first day back from work after the administration regime change, nothing was “normal”. I've never seen such severe censorship from an administration claiming “transparency” and “freedom”. We were ordered to strip any mention of DEI, climate change, environmental justice, transgender, identity, expression, etc., from our webpages, printed documents, and performance plans. Employees whose jobs dealt with DEI, because that’s what they were hired to do, were immediately terminated, simply for agreeing to do the job they were hired to do. The system we use to house training products was scoured and anything DEI-related was removed.

All employees were told we had to return to the office full-time. All of my employees are remote, and most were hired as remote. I can assure you, they were working extremely hard, even as remote employees. But now, they don’t know what to expect. The government does not have enough office space to house all the employees. So they are converting conference rooms and closets into space to try and comply with the order. Even with the mass-firings behind and ahead of us, there isn’t enough space and yet, they continue to sell off government buildings that were in the process of being sold, so we will have even less space to work with.

DC area workers are looking at 1-2 hour commutes to work EACH way and most have to pay 10-30 bucks a day to park. Buildings will not have the IT capacity to deal with the influx of computers on their network that hasn’t even fully started yet, and parking lots likely don’t have enough space for all the cars. Some remote workers may not even be near a federal building. It is yet unclear what will happen to them. But likely, forced relocation will be needed for many people, and many employees may not be able to move due to spouse/family/medical issues. And when Federal productivity goes down as a result of all of this, you can bet Federal employees will be blamed.

We’ve been sent amazingly inept and spammy emails by OPM, to the point where they had to order our Department leadership to send us further emails to vouch that their spammy emails were legit. Then we got sent the infamous ‘fork’ email telling us we should resign or else we’d probably get fired. One of my employees had to take a mental health day that following day. I called all my employees the morning after that late night ‘fork’ email. The first employee I called, burst into tears when I asked how she was doing. She was terrified of losing her job and irate at the situation that Trump, Elon, and his cronies had put us all in. She recently moved to a new city, bought a house, has medical issues, and doesn’t know what she would do without insurance and no family nearby. Everyone I spoke with was shellshocked. Federal workers have never been treated so insultingly, and the difference in this regime is stark. None of my employees trusted the info in the email because it was spammy and poorly written and didn’t address the major legal plotholes that we all could see.

Then we got sent daily reminder emails from OPM telling us how legal it all was and how we should pursue a “higher productivity private sector job rather than continue in our low productivity government job”. Yes, the email to us actually said that. We got quite a few further harassing emails and then they demanded that our internal Departmental leadership send even more emails reminding us how this was all legal and above board.

Just a few things that Democrats and Nazi's want or have in common:

) Higher taxes
) Pro Abortion
) Gun Control
) Government controlled Healthcare
) Government controlled education
) Censored speech
) Guaranteed Income
) Removal of religion from schools and government.

Shall we list the things that MAGAs have in common?
Libbity and fellow short bus riders @Phenomenally Frantastic and @RicoSuave102954 are historically illiterate morons...

1) Higher Taxes? The Nazis raised taxes on the eve of war to build their military, but they also cut spending and social programs. Sound familiar???
2) Pro-Abortion? WRONG! They were very anti-abortion and Germany is still unraveling their laws:

These scenes aren't playing out in the U.S. South but in Germany, where the government is trying to overturn a Nazi-era law that forbids so-called abortion advertising — or publicizing even basic information about abortions.
3) Gun Control. WRONG AGAIN! The Nazis relaxed gun control laws for Nazi party members, but tightened them for others.
4) Government Healthcare. FALSE. They inherited a robust government health system and only altered it to throw Jews and others off.
5) Government Education. WRONG AGAIN. The Nazis went after left wing ideology in German universities. Professors were persecuted and education suffered. Sound familiar, ****tard! https://perspectives.ushmm.org/collection/higher-education-in-nazi-germany#:~:text=The Nazi government's project of,with ideological and paramilitary training.
6) Censored Speech? This your party, bitch? Wanting to punish any American speaking out against Israel?: https://www.aclu.org/press-releases...f-dangerous-bill-that-would-chill-free-speech
7) Pro Guaranteed Basic Income? COMPLETELY FALSE! In fact, the previous regime had run experiments with it, but Hitler was vehemently pro-capitalist: In fact, he was a social Darwinist, thinking the strong should prosper over the weak, like MAGAts!
8) Removal of Religion from Schools? They tried to dismantle the Catholic school system, so I can give you a generous point. But the Nazis actively encouraged the religious faction of their fellow right wingers in speeches. For example:

"My feeling as a Christian points me to my Lord and Savior as a fighter. It points me to the man who once in loneliness, surrounded only by a few followers, recognized these Jews for what they were and summoned men to fight against them and who, God's truth! was greatest not as a sufferer but as a fighter." -Adolf Hitler

So I destroyed you Nazi-Loving GOP scum like it was your mom's snatch, pussy.

Nope, I fully understand and expect they'll cut some things temporarily that shouldn't be cut, and that's OK. It's well worth the benefit. In all likelihood this will be resolved for this farmer and others like him in short order.

The alternative is to just not do anything, and that's been the status quo far too long.

Imagine how you'd be celebrating this farmer's demise if a democrat had done this...yeah...you know I'm right.

Curious, what is the benchmark that you will consider this as a success? Meaning, what is the benefit you expect will be reached by the end of this / Trump's term?

e.g. I expect that DOGE will find $5B in waste (IMO it must be verified, not a random DOGE tweet). OR If the overall domino effect doesn't create more than 2% unemployment. OR Unemployment <5% will be fine.

When you say "it's well worth the benefit", what does that mean to you?

Honestly the bar for success on this is extremely low.

My main thing is that before we consider tax increases, we need to trim the fat. Honestly I think they'll find $500B+ in waste pretty easily, but I'd feel good if they simply cut whatever waste there is.

Finding dead people marked as alive in social security is a worthy find, although it doesn't likely save us much money.

If they went through it all and didn't find any waste it would still be worth doing, because it makes the case for tax increases anymore reasonable conversation. Reality is we all suspect there's waste but nobody really knows if it's a little or a lot. It's well worth the effort in finding out, if for no other reason than to raise public confidence that the government is being good stewards of our money.

I’m all for cutting spending. That will take a methodical approach and require some accountability for members of Congress.

The DOGE posts are filled with over the top nonsense and stuff that sounds bad to dumb people.

Appreciate the response. Here are my main rubs....

1) Declaring huge savings with zero actual accounting details is beyond reckless. DOGE has already shown their "savings" numbers cannot be trusted. Elon even admitted.
2) The way he is doing it, doesn't make sense. Frankly, it's stupid, reckless and I think we will eventually find many instances of violation of law, which will result in law suits. I predict a lot of expenses in both civil and legal litigation which will be counter to the primary thesis. I have already cited the accessing secure databases by non-validated kids as low hanging fruit on violations.
3) There is no real logic or merit to the approaches. example, NPS proposed budget 2025 is @$3.57B and the add to the economy is $28B to the economy. While I am not a CPA, that seems to be pretty good return no? Why TF fire 1000+? unless it isn't about budget but something else?
4) Firing all the inspector generals, whose main job it is focus on audit and investigations is illogical. Esp with the "we THINK" there is fraud and waste, but we have to break stuff to see if we can find it. Esp if they are already working on this.
5) Dead people, lets see how many that ACTUALLY ends up being. I refuse to put any stock in a 48 hour summarization with historically inflated declarations (e.g. $100M in condoms to Gaza (that was Trump's updated number)).

Your statement.... "If they went through it all and didn't find any waste it would still be worth doing," .... a bunch of nerds without any accounting exp are going to search the books in 2 days and find all this waste? Give me a break. And firing people before actually finding waste? And firing the least expensive people on the payroll (the new probationary staff... ?).

Come on, do you REALLY think this is about finding fraud and waste?

Now, many folks would be all in if this wasn't a slash and burn approach which is what we have. Instead, IMO, most folks support a concise, 3rd party who doesn't have conflicts on Day 1 (Exhibit A = Elon), who actually applies forensic accounting and auditing policies to review the contracts and books. I bet 99% of the folks would be onboard with that.

Now, back to the intent of this thread. I am mixed on this. I do expect some of the stories that pop up are going to be fake. I 100% believe there are going to be THOUSANDS who end up shocked with the Find Out phase of this. I don't want to celebrate their misery, and there are going to be many where I am sympathetic for them, but also shrug shoulders and go, well...... you kind of did this to yourself.

You have proof of Trump calling vets suckers and losers? Or is this another anonymous source the left is known to go with as factual?
This is your supreme show of idiocy.

It’s well documented and, for quite some time this has been his MO.

Try starting with what he said about John McCain.

You are truly a disgrace as an American and a disgrace to the human race.

You need Dachau or Auswitz. Maybe that will fix your twisted mind.

I would love to have beers with you and actually talk through this, because I like your perspective.

For me, it's not really about finding fraud and waste, it's about finding what's needed and what isn't. Finding actual fraud will require more. They labeled it fraud, but my assumption is much of it is really just either waste, or misrepresentative of what the spend actually is. A single line description rarely is sufficient to explain expenditures the size of the ones they're uncovering. It would take longer to figure out the why.

Reality is every public company in America is doing this kind of thing every few years, and it should be standard practice. It's not about finding fraud, it's about ensuring the money you are spending is necessary.

When it's been neglected for so long, allowed to go unchecked, I'm totally OK with the slash and burn approach. CUT DEEP and then add back. Doing this makes it so you discover what you really need and what is nice to have.

In terms of firings, I'm ok with that too. We know as a matter of logic the federal government is bloated well beyond what is really necessary for it's purpose. Imagine if current offices could function in 60% of the staff they have now, and then 10 years from now we're again staffed at current levels but we've added more real, valuable government services that actually serve us much better. We'd never get there by slowly chipping away at it.

At this point I'm all for the drastic, fast actions, we will cut too deep, we will upset some things, and that's OK. Ultimately we'll end up with a leaner government, and can put processes in place for much more regular audits moving forward so we don't get to this point again.

One note on all of this. The young techies who are going through the files aren't making cuts, they're simply raising the questionable items to the departments, and they make the decision on whether to keep or cut. I'm sure all of these spends have contracts somewhere associated with them, and the department is assessing whether that spend is in line with the contract, and whether it's necessary.
