SIAP but just saw this across Twitter:
  • Max Cooper now solid 5th WR behind ISM, Smith, Easley and Groeneweg. That means Dafney, Young and Ragaini, etc further down list. BF says Cooper has sneaky fast speed.
  • ISM would be #1 RB if season started today
  • Riley Moss tearing up special teams, figures to play a prominent role, need a special teams captain similar to Amani Jones and Kevin Ward
  • Punter too close to call, HA! I knew you were waiting on that one!
  • Dillon Doyle looking comfortable at MLB, probably #2
  • Tyler Linderbaum per Parker "definitely one of the guys that can help us," so sounds like with Ced and Reiff out game 1 he'll get some snaps. Whether that's the 4 game Freshman waiver we shall see
  • Julius Brents looking like #3 CB already, wow
  • Lastly, from the videos on this site, Pat Harty needs a haircut, shave and a clean shirt! C'mon Pat! :)
Jump in if you heard anything else, Go Hawks!

Goes to show that our daily picture threads don't tell the whole story. You'd think Nico was in contention for a starting spot based off how much he showed up there. I'm personally surprised Groeneweg is in the top 5, kind of forgot about him after last year.

Groeneweg is a first (and only 1) year player correct? Transfer from Sioux Falls.

Yep, Groeneweg was a RS or transfer sit out last year so hasn't been on field yet, will be interesting to see WR position battle. BF wants a 'top 6' so Nico, Devonte and Tracy fighting for last spot. Other will be on special teams.

Just reporting what I read on twitter. I think Recinos is very underrated.
No problem. Dude looks like a computer nerd in the photo's but he's a baller with ice water in his veins, and a big time leg. Might just see Miquel playing on Sundays next season, should he be so inclined.

I would bet the farm that we are the only P5 school with 2 walk-ons in our top 3 WR. We may be the only FBS school in that situation.

I was really hoping Tracy would make some noise. Ditto Ragaini.

We only have one in the top 3 (Easley). ISM and Smith came in on scholarship making up the top 3. And all 3 of them are now on scholarship.

I will put a clarification then, and say Top 4.

However, Groeneweg may be 3rd. We will see how Smith fares when the bullets start flying...

Even as Top 4, I bet we are the only P5 school with that dynamic.

I think I'd take that bet that there is another P5 with 2 current OR FORMER walkons in their top 4. I say former because I don't believe Easley is a walk on anymore so really Iowa only has one current walk on in that group.. I can recall Wisconsin STARTING 4 or 5 walk ons when walk on Abbrederis was their top WR. There are some great WR's in the NFL that started as walk ons. Jordy Nelson at K-State being a good example.

1) Easley is still a walk-on. ( mom is a U of I employee so School is free)
2) lots of teams have had a really good walk-on make it to the field as a WR. I concur. BUT...

My contention is that no P5 team has 2 walk-on WRs in their top 4.

I don’t even think you will find it anywhere in all of FBS football.

I too, am treading cautiously with any B. Smith expectations.

Heck of an athlete, but as a Freshman, he did absolutely nothing that proves he has what it takes to be a standout WR.

Certainly pulling for the young buck. With his feet wet, sounds like we will find out soon what he's made of.

Weird that Easley is still a walk on when he was given a scholars

Weird. I read an article stating that he received a scholarship after last season. Must be fake news.

I almost choked when I saw the kicking job competition comment. QB and kicker were the least of my concerns. Maybe, trying to keep Miguel motivated...otherwise, it was a typo.

Since when do U of I employees get free tuition for their kids? My father was a long-time faculty at Iowa - and my folks had to pay for my sister's education at Iowa.

Even with all the depth they talk about on the DL do we not see Linderbomb burn that shirt? Feel like he is gonna be a really good one...and with Reiff coming on this DL could be silly good very soon.

I understand Drake Stoops is turning heads at Oklahoma as a walk on. I thought I read where one of the upperclassmen was also a former walk on. I’d still take the bet that there’s another P5. I’m a former walk on so I root for those walk ons!

U read right about Stoops. He's likely to contribute at Receiver this year. He would have been a big time get for us.
LinderBomb is gonna have to play this year. He is already good. Maybe they can finagle it so he can still redshirt IDK. If he is performing at a level where he can get more than just a few spot reps he'll play in more than 4 games. Probably end up happening.

As others pointed out Easley was put on scholly in January. I’m willing to make that wager I can find a team with a walk on and former walk on in their top 4.

I was a UNI employee for 25 years and put both of our kids through U of I. Believe me, employees of Iowa's public universities do NOT get free tuition for their kids. It is true, though, that many private universities offer this as a perk to their employees, or at least to their faculty and P & S stsff.

This is what I know to be true as well. State funded schools employees kids do not get free tuition, but a lot of the private schools do offer that. I know Central and Simpson do as I have friends who work there that have kids attending for free.
