Favorite Player in Fran Era

Last year I asked a good friend of mine, who is on his 4th marriage...which one of his wives he loved the most...

I didn't ask that again...

I'm going with McCabe as he was probably the first whipping boy. As a Freshman he had to play as a back up post and was asked to put on weight to do so. Later on he had to drop weight and play the wing. He was a competitor and gave his body and all for the Hawkeyes and got little respect for that.

And with that, I'd throw the other 2 Sioux City boys in the mix as Woodbury and Gesell (yeah, I know a South Siouxer from NE) helped put Fran on the map recruiting when Iowa hadn't done anything yet. They will have that legacy of being the class that turned the program around.

Who is your favorite player in the Fran Era? Criteria is the player must have PLAYED for Fran (didn't have to be recruited by Fran).
It's tough to pick one, but to me it would be White. He epitomized how Fran rebuilt the program from rock bottom. He was signed with no fanfare, and now has his name etched in the record books as #1 in FT attempts and Top 10 in scoring and rebounding. He also came from a player no other B1G team recruited to All B1G. His career is a microcosm of how Fran brought us back to respectability.

Not that anybody is tracking but I'll add to my original nomination of Uthoff and Gesell...

I'll add Gatens - not only was he an outstanding player and great representative of the Hawkeye program that bleeds black and gold; but if rumors are true he and his family were instrumental in the dismissal of one of the worse of coaches in IA history.

If those rumors are true than kudos to the Gatens family.

For me it's definitely Aaron White. He almost personified the resurgence of Iowa basketball, IMO he's one of the top 5 Hawkeyes of all time for what he helped do for this program.

Lots of great choices, for sure.

And the winner is...Aaron White. One of my all-time favorites, from any coach's tenure.

Honorable mention to Matt Gatens. As others mentioned, what a shame he couldn't have played on a more successful team. Local kid, too.

Really like RDM for some reason. Aaron White 2nd leading scorer of all time and really brought an attitude to an Iowa team. Forgot about Cole, he definitely deserves mention. Had everything thrown at him including a torn ACL, but stuck with it, and was worth it when they beat #6 Purdue on senior day. I'll give honorable mention to Basabe because he brought a "swag" (excuse my language) to Iowa basketball, and was a treat to watch his Freshman year giving hope for the future.
