Ferentz handshake

Running up the score on Georgia State on purpose is going to rub some people wrong. I'm one of them. I think he has lost perspective on "sportsmanship". KF downing the ball last weekend at the 2 yard line.....he gets it (even though it cost me my spread in the game.....UGH!!!) My issue aside, it's simply not cool.

Not unlike what Fry did to bad ISU teams in the '80s.

It wasn't so much a swipe at Pitt as it was how they approach each game. He made the same comments at Vanderbilt when they beat Tennessee. It not like he is making millions and has his son living in low income housing taking it from people who could actually use it.

Good to see Iowa State represented on this thread.

Hayden Fry is a legend at Iowa for some reason, and he classlessly ran up scores all the time vs the weak dogs he had on the schedule

Agree. Without Barkley, that is a very average football team.
and #9 and #84 and #88 half the oline #24 ... most the D and half the redshirts they have on the roster from that huge recruiting classes they are bringing in
but ya one man team lol

KF blew it and knew it, besides Franklin is destroying him with east coast recruiting.
You would be ticked too if your team , on your home field ,drove 80 yds with a minute left and scored on the final play. Of course, when your kid , the ex-center, cannot figure out a blitz until final minutes while your desperate D is giving up 600 yds, on your home field, and completely out of gas. That would tick you off too. PennSt board is ticked they didn't win by 20 like they should have. Red zone O was not good.
Everyone is ticked but it was a great game. Had a little of everything.

I don't get this thread. What, is he supposed to pull out a couple of glasses, pour some whiskey, and share drinks after the game?|

If I just lost on the last play of the game with a team that played their guts out I'd want to get the handshake over as quickly as I could so I could get to the locker room as well.

He's a salesman and he comes off as brash.

I think he has come a long way since arriving at PSU TBH and think his first few years were humbling. I will say this, he works his ass off and expects the same of those around him. I'm a fan but obviously jaded and it is always easy when you're winning. Guy put in a lot of work and effort to get them where they are though and I respect that.
Every fan hated Dennis Rodman till he was on their team and doing the dirty work it takes to win. I don't pay any attention to other teams coaches or players. I didn't think Franklin had what it took to be a winner in the B1G he made changes where they were needed and can recruit so I was WRONG !

Kirk is human too. It was an emotionally draining game to the very end.

That's how I would interpret it, not a sleight against Franklin. I don't pay close attention to Franklin and PSU so other than the whole field goal controversy with them why is Franklin a douche? Honest question.
Thought I recall hearing at Franklin's prior coaching stint that he didn't handle some disciplinary situations very well.

Tons of respect for Coach Ferentz (USCHS alum from the Burgh)...didn't get a dismissive vibe from the very brief handshake, though admittedly, don't know much about his typical end of game demeanor. Regardless, both coaches were very gracious in their post game comments.

Great game Hawkeye fans. Good luck the rest of the way.
KF is always gracious in the post game, but It sure looked like the handshake he reserves for Dantonio, and I assure you there's some serious dislike there.

So why is that? Up until this game I've never heard many criticism of Franklin.

He could be the world's largest sack of crap for all I know, I'm just asking what you and others have heard.
If I could venture a guess, it could be the spanking PSU put on Iowa last year. PSU, in my opinion, kind of ran the score up on Iowa. KF is not one to run the score up.

I think he was probably being facetious. It sounds like he was trying to reference I think the movie Jerry McGuire, or some other sports movie (I forget), in which someone is talking about judging a player's confidence by how hot his wife/girlfriend is.

Regardless, yes, the comment was extremely inappropriate. I hate to break it to you, though, but when many coaches and players are behind closed doors they say a lot worse.

Uh, yeah, one man team. Without Barkley, that us a very average football team. Now go back to your own boad.

If SB goes pro and he should before Franklin kills him off.Penn State fans will be wanting franklin fired with in a year. SB is a 1 man show and Franklin knows it and is very cocky right now

For everyone who is so upset ITT, you do realize that Franklin, his players and PSU fans couldn't give two shets what Ferentz thinks, right?

Good Lord. Are you all upset about Jewel's HR swing too?

Guys, remember Kirk's son-in-law took a job at Vanderbilt while Franklin was still there. Maybe they do things such as recruiting "differently" there.

I agree that a lot worse is said on a regular basis, just not to reporters. You asked for some evidence of douchebaggery and I provided it.

For the record, he doesn't bother me a bit.

Never once saw Fry try to block a field goal, when leading 56-0. Keep trying to make it OK though.

Franklin's only concern is HIS team. He doesn't work for Georgia State. He coaches Penn State. His goal should be a shut out every single week. Trying to block a field goal is not a new concept, teams do it all the time. It's not Franklin's job to hand out participation trophies to other teams. They're big boys, if they can't score 3 points too damn bad.

maybe its because Franklin tried to cover up a rape at Vanderbilt, thank god the rapist is in prison because Franklin failed in that reguard. PEDO U covers up a pedofile for 40+ years then hire a coach that tried to cover up a rape.

not much changes at PEDO U where its win at any cost.

You should read the other posts before you reply. The only reason I responded was because the poster said it was not unlike what Fry used to do to teams like ISU, which as I pointed it out is not true at all. Of course you had to respond to this, even though it had nothing to do with you, or your coach. Keep telling yourself that these reasons he makes up are OK for doing shit like that for teams he has down 56-0 though. It fits right in with your program. By the way, if you think its just Iowa fans who thought what he did at the end of the Georgia State was bush league, go back and listen to the reporters who covered his presser. You could tell by the tenor of their questions they couldn't belief what they were hearing as his answer, because it was bull. Then he even brought it up again a day or two later at the beginning of his next presser with your media, because he knew it was going to be brought up, by YOUR media people. Yea, just another day at the office up in State College I guess.

Franklin called a time out with four seconds left in last night's game. Is that cool with you? Should he have just taken a knee at the ten? I mean it is Franklin's job to make sure iowa gets to 4-0. What are dickbag Franklin is.

Ferentz may be classy but he's also a mediocre coach. As long as he's your coach you'll never be heard from. Enjoy your next ten 7-5 seasons.

Wow! Your right of course because that was exactly the same scenario wasn't it? Deflect much do you? I notice you didn't respond at all to how your own reporters handled pressers at YOUR school. It was obvious they thought what he did was a slime move, but keep telling your self it doesn't matter because its just an Iowa thing, and of course James Franklin doesn't coach at Iowa.

Right, pay much attention to college football do you? So the five times he's had Iowa in the top 8-10 teams at the end of the year don't matter. The FACT that he's twice been National coach of the year, nope don't matter. The FACT that he's 4 times been BIG coach of the year,(more then any other coach in history), that don't matter? The FACT that Iowa was ranked 4th at 12-0 and played for the BIG title 20 months ago, that don't matter? Your right though, they'll never here from Iowa, anymore then they have in KF's tenure here. Your right, nobodies ever heard of KF or Iowa football. Pretty sad, what it took for your Lions to survive last night against a bunch of nobodies don't you think?

Well, when the reporters become the next Penn State coach they can do whatever they like. Hell, if they want to lay down and let every team on the schedule score 400 points have at it. But until then, it's Franklin's team and his call. And I don't blame him one iota for the stuff he does. Remember last year when Penn State won the big ten championship? Remember last year when Penn State beat Ohio State? Remember last year when Ohio State was picked ahead of Penn State for the CFP? Franklin's not letting that happen again, and if that means pitching shut outs and running up scores so Penn State can pass the "eye test" than that's what he's going to do. And I'm pretty sure he doesn't care what anyone thinks about it.

He is a mediocre Coach. And he has an 8-6 record against your mediocre program.

Yeah. I'm sure if he puts out a perennial T20 team with a T10 one 20 or 30% of the time the Penn State AD will check with mighty Ferentz to see if Franklin should stick around or be fired.

Try thinking and THEN posting.
You're an idiot if you don't think that Franklin cares about what Ferentz thinks of him. Ferentz is a few stratospheres above Franklin in the coaching world. And 2 to 3 levels below Ferentz in the coaching world is the closest that Franklin will ever get to him.
