Fire Fran and Jan Megathread

Like the title says. It’s time for Beth to leave her mark.
Well she’s 0-1 with Jan. Let bluder pressure her into promoting Jensen instead of hiring better coach like Jenny baranczyk former player coaching top 10 OU team. Goetz’s goodwill for canning BF is about to expire. Time for her to make some real decisions.

To be fair to Bluder, this is her roster on the court. She's partially to blame for the lack of basic fundamentals as well.

Jan deserves some time. There was bound to be a drop off while she adjusts to being a HC and the team adjusts to life post-CC. Fran, on the other hand, has no excuse
I dunno, IMO head coach is not a learning on the job position. It would be different if there was a talent gap and she just didn't have the players. But we are losing games the same way, heaps and heaps of turnovers and poor free throw shooting. The players are not getting better at what they are worst at. That's what coaches are supposed to identify and address.

Iowa woman’s basketball is a whole different conversation. Recruiting outside of Caitlin has been bad. We have Deal coming in next year that make a significant difference. We better let three of four girls walk and go to the portal with some good money to rebuild.

Yeah, it's a little early on Jan. Losing CC puts you in a bit of a rebuild mode. Let's see how she does over the next couple of years...though some of her in-game coaching has been questionable.

So after losing Caitlin, Gabby, and Kate, people were really expecting the WBB to not miss a beat and not take a step back?

Lol. Duh.

A step back? Yes. Losing 4 in a row with awful substitution patterns, questionable uses of fouls and timeouts and a team with record setting turnovers and missed free throws? No.

Jan is over her head and we should have hired an established head coach to keep the momentum going. She needs to go before the wheels fall off.

There is a difference between not losing a beat and maintaining some sense of identity and playing at a high level. Lots of teams around the country so that without Caitlin Clark. Iowa practically had* blue blood status thanks to her. But it's going to vanish in a hurry.

WBB fans know the tiger hawk, they know the name Iowa. Heck, Iowa was ranked most of the season because of their status before dropping 4 straight, very winnable games. It's a risk Beth took and we'll see if it pays off. But for right now, it's hard not to question the decision a little bit based on how the team looks.

New blood may have came in and identified who stays (and who goes). Maybe a new coach identifies some needs and fills those holes. I worry that Jan is sort of a holdover that maybe is carrying some of the baggage post-Bluder (ex, giving veterans a longer leash).

I like JJ, and I hope she does well. I just think Iowa has a very small window of time to build off the Megan Gustofsen/CC eras. I'd hate to see Iowa fall back to the pre-Megan years.

Beth has been AD for barely 1 year, stuck with cleaning up 17 years of malpractice by Gary "The Human Lapel Pin" Barta, worst AD in Iowa history, and people already want her gone.

Duh.
Barta bailed at the right time. His bills are all coming due. Beth will have her hands full over the next few years.

As for Jan, it'll be interesting to see how WBB attendance trends.

Barta actually stepped to a podium mic and said that not only was Brian Ferentz qualified to run Iowa's offense, he was "uniquely" qualified. There's never been a bigger lapdog of an AD in history than Gary Barta. Beth stepped in and sent Brian packing in a matter of months. All these guys calling for Beth to be gone apparently would be happy with Brian still running Iowa's offense, lol.

Other finally ending the BF disaster what has she done?

I’d like to hear her say that our expectations are Iowa are higher than 8-5 in football record and an NIT bid. Put the coaches on watch.
I give her zero credit for getting rid of Brian.

That IMO came from the very top. That’s why Beth and Kirk can coexist, because he knows she didn’t have anything to do with it.

In the six months she has been AD?

QC: I leave you home for 12 hours, and come back to find you’ve pissed on the rug!?!?!
(Demands refund from the ARL for his 9 week old puppy)

Seriously, you are the biggest piss baby(that I don’t have in ignore) on this entire board.

Do you just have an issue with women in positions of authority, or are you more reactionary than than a reptile?

I’m not sure what all that means, but are you currently happy with the football and basketball programs?

Myself and many others are not. They are both stale with no sense of change coming.

I want an AD to tell us fans, you know the ones that support with our wallets, why we should continue to throw money at the UI.

And you’re wrong, Beth been there for 2 years, with one full year bring the head honcho.

Fans want a leader that isn’t afraid to speak up, unless of course the results are fine for her and the university.

Put the coaches on watch.Had she come into a sh*t show (I mean a real one) where football was losing and Kinnick had empty seats...hoops was in a Lickliter type pit throwing your weight around in year one with two coaches who are generally respected, one of which highly...probably not a good move. Iowa athletics is in generally good condition.

"There's a new sheriff in town" is a little easier to pull off if you were brought in to clean up a faltering athletic department. Iowa is making money and filling seats. (though men's bball needs a boost). You don't publicly challenge two coaches who have winning records, especially one who's the dean of college football.

I'm sure she's had "what are your long term plans" discussions with all the coaches. She may even know Kirk and Fran's timeline. (though I don't think Kirk knows himself. He's the kind of guy who would just keep showing up until his key didn't work.) I'm guessing she's looking for Fran's replacement now. This year or next will likely be his last. Kirk will be next.

Their long term plans are retirement.

Holding onto coaches at that age has no upside unless they are a Nick Saban, John Calipari or Izzo.

You either change or waste a couple more years then change anyway.

Iowa choose to waste a couple more years.
