Fran has a better winning % than 12 of the 20 coaches and less than 7. Seems pretty accurate for his coaching history at Iowa. He's an above average coach but has definite limitations. I will not stop being an Iowa fan, but if Fran comes back next season I'm not sure I will regularly. Not with any real excitement or expectations, at least.
We are close to approaching the Lick years, in terms of on-court results and expectations.

In before @cmhawks99 comes in to correct us all for being mad. It’s ok to not have any Sweet 16 appearances, and be rebuilding in year 14. We fans are just unrealistic and should settle for mediocre. It’s ok that Fran appears to be lost and loses to dog shit teams because hey, at least he’s not Lick!!

No offense Frank, but this a really stupid take. So if our team is constantly average with a coach making 3.2 mill a year the fans that generate the revenue are not fans because they want better from their coach?

Looks like Fran, Alford, Raveling, are comparable. Davis is better than Fran, but Davis had Ravelings recruits. Raveling should get ranked higher for his recruiting.
Lute is the best.

If Fran were replaced, seems like winning around 59% of the games is pretty easy bar and odds are next guy is about the same. So 4/6 chance the next coach is about same as Fran. 1/6 chance he is a lickliter. 1/6 chance he is a Lute Olson. If next coach is a Lickliter, fire after 2 years and move on and roll the dice again.
Personally I want a guy with higher ceiling. Not playing defense with a bunch of skinny, non-muscled Iowa kids seems to be DOA when NCAA tourney rolls around. Most of Fran's best players have been Iowa kids or iowa legacy players---anyone can bring those guys in. We need a better recruiter for out of state.
You can't let a brilliant defensive strategist and coach like this go as you can see here...
- Bowen pinned down low against an IN big totally out of position and overmatched
- Freeman and Pat totally out of the play
- Dembele defending a guard; sadly providing the most relevant and best defense on that particular set
- Dix (who ironically is usually our best defender) is in total no man's land guarding no one
- And of course, that all means no one is even close to guarding the ball
- Meanwhile your two most effective and experienced players are waiting to enter the game as both were on the bench at the same time.
