Flat tax is going to pass in both Iowa House and Senate

Absolutely. I don't hate rich. I just can't stand it when they bitch about taxes. You don't think the guy paying sales taxes and gas taxes making 30K a year counts Solar?

A rate effecting 1+ million is less significant compared to 55K in normal circumstances.

The family paying 3.5 on 55K can be crucial and a matter of survival. 55K is a typical retirement income.

I feel like I live in an alternate universe when people on the left complain that they have to pay LESS taxes.

If you are nostalgic for times of yore, go a head, write the state a supplemental check so you can pay whatever you feel is needed. Go crazy......🥳
Written by someone that will be the first to complain about services.

For so many people who like to rail on how bad Illinois budgeting is you all sure seem to be in a huge rush to emulate the way the state funds itself.

We moved from one of the poorest states in the US back to Iowa to raise the kids. We understood we'd pay more in taxes because we wanted stuff like schools and roads.

Because people are in it for the communal good. people don't mind paying it when everyone pays their fair share. The problem is too many idiots think everything government is evil and complain the first time things they want are cut.

"fair share"?

I always perk up when I hear those words from liberals.

And when people complain that services are cut, they’re likely not conservative folks.

How come the people that always champion more taxes don't just pay extra.
Because there are about 3 people in this country that could do this and make any difference whatsoever. Everyone needs to participate. Another question is, why do you want others to pay your share for you? Why are you asking to be a free loader?

What is "my share" exactly? 10%? 30%? 70%?

Why don't you ask someone who lives in CA and who no longer has a house, how paying high taxes worked for them. There is no correlation between paying high taxes and having good government services. CA decided to cut the FD budgets, not allow water from Northern CA to be sent to Southern CA, spending FD budgets on DEI, etc. The state wouldn't allow insurance companies to raise rates so many (State Farm) pulled out leaving thousands without coverage, sounds like a sound policy. Elect bad government and you get bad results while at the same time you get to enjoy paying high taxes. More government money = more government waste.

You are going to have to provide a lot more information about your financial situation to give a serious response to this question.
Another lazy and stupid liberal. A lot of complaints and capitalist bashing but no ideas or honest evaluation. Biohawk, what would be your maximum tax rate?

What’s really nuts whiskey is me NOT paying any Iowa income taxes at all! Our income is SS, pension and RMDs….and well over $100k annually…. But I do not owe the State of Iowa one cent for this “income”.. How phuquin’ much sense does this make? No mortgage, no kids, no real expenses and NO phuquin’ tax bill! And there are a ton of Iowegians living larger than me! It’s absolute phuquin’ fiscal irresponsibility. Iowa’s full of us old folks, too!
I think the governor’s point may be that too many people were fleeing Iowa (for tax free states) so to become more competitive & retain some of the population base…she’s supporting a lower flat tax and no tax on 401K and IRA withdrawals. Older Iowans buy stuff to help support Iowa’s economy:)

If you want to write the State of Iowa a check…they would take it. 😉

Wow. Great post Jackass. Nah, you aren't a serious person so it's not worth discussing with you.

All the while Gavin Newsom is saying "I showed em" regarding State Farm pulling out.

Once again Californians get exactly what they voted for.

Methinks the Governor is full of shit. Again, there are 3 reasons why Iowa seniors leave Iowa…December, January and February. It has nothing to do….or very little to do with tax rates. It fits Kim’s agenda…

That is not the purpose of taxes. Like you, I pay my tax bill…and I pay as little as I can. However, I believe me not owing the State any taxes (because I’m retired) is pure foolishness….and pandering. It makes no sense. The one time in my life where I can “afford” taxes, I’m excused from paying them. My “property taxes” are generally higher than what I used to pay the State…and a lot of that is because of transference of tax obligation from state to local governments.

Most of the savings we built up will be gone in a few years, then will have to jack up the rates, then have people leave, its a never ending curse, need good financial management, I really think Reynolds will go down as one of the worst governors of Iowa.

Not all seniors are in your position joel. They receive a pittance with the social security COLA that comes nowhere close to covering the high costs of living these days. Every year their buying power is diminished. Many are forced to leave their homes because of the increasing costs of everything, ie...homeowner's insurance, propery tax, upkeep, etc.. Reducing the tax burden for these folks should be a priority.
