For those wanting Kirk Ferentz gone

Ponder this. The schools in our region we compete against for recruits usually "out recruit" us. Yet, even with better talent we keep beating them. Fleck, Fickle, Rhule and Campbell are a combined 3-17 against Kirk. With equal or better talent. Hmmmm
It's true. It's primarily a function of the defensive and special teams staff that Kirk has built. It's about as good as it gets, and he deserves credit for that.

But why should we not be able to recruit with those mediocre teams? It’s not like they are Texas, Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State. Why do we have to always say that we over achieved? That means you were expecting 4-8 and somehow overcame. We had 5 total first downs and 169 total yards. That should be unacceptable anywhere.

But that goes beyond their tunnel vision way of thinking (the awww shucks, we’re just Iowa attitude). How would we know how we’d be able to recruit without Kirk in this modern era of football? He’s been at Iowa forever LOL

This is a healthy perspective. We’ve seen what happens with Wisky when they try to reinvent their brand and identity and system with a splashy hire. Train wreck.

But Iowa’s defense has also benefited from some really pedestrian BIG 10 offenses.

But KF has relied for way too long on his defense and ST because he’s content winning 7-8 games a year doing it “his way.”

It’s actually quite self serving. And when Iowa loses 35-7 to an SEC team in their bowl game, the same excuses will be offered.

Super great accomplishment to somewhat routinely beat the Nebraska's, Minnesota's, and Wisconsin's of the world, with 'worse' recruiting on a yearly basis, you know since those teams are regularly at the top of the conference programs and generally fighting for playoff spots in the last couple weeks of the season.

KF has to go.

Raiola saved KF some criticism by fumbling.
What did KF do to earn praise for last night's victory?

Fickell won't last long at Wisky, but that shouldn't be a factor on KF being under pressure or being scrutinized.
The halftime show where the network people were making fun of Iowa is likely how Iowa football is perceived, nationally.
The longer he is kept around, the bigger the rebuild.

Sorry, you lost me with Campbell as iswho doesn’t recruit better than Iowa.

Wonder what those network pricks said after the game?

Iowa is a national joke. The rest of the country continues to mock Iowa because of this pathetic brand of football KF puts out there. Once again we'll get into a bowl game vs. a solid opponent and have zero chance because the only teams Kirk can beat with his blueprint of mounting zero offense and then praying for a defense/ST miracle are crappy B1G West programs.

I've forgotten how many idiot Iowa fans there are.
I'm really glad KF is immortal.

Also, there's no reason to believe KF is at the top end of who Iowa can recruit. The main issue over the years has been that he and players with bigger personalities go together like oil and water.

That 8-4 record is just good enough to get a game vs a good SEC program where we'll see Iowa get smoked like vs Tennessee last season.

It is really simple. Get at least a semi effective offense. Something is wrong at Iowa. If it is KF then it is time to move on.

He’s going to leave, sooner than later.

Love the guy. The coach. The person. The leader. The example he sets in life. And, his players do, also.

The tactician, the stick in the mud, the lack of expanding his game? That guy frustrates me to death.

He wins. Some would say meaningless games. They all mean something. Because when he loses those games, people want him gone. Now. Not quite understanding that other coaches coach and they and their players want to win, too.

In my estimation, he should retire. It’s not my call. He’s done enough to continue keep Iowa football on the map.

The next hire will carry the albatross of even higher expectations.

Yep. Ole Miss, Alabama, or Tennessee will murder Iowa. You’re not beating those teams when you can’t throw for 100 yards.

KF has had a great career, I respect him a lot and what he's done over the years and how he's represented Iowa. That said, I think it's time. But I doubt KF is going anywhere quite yet, I think he's going to give it another year or two, get through the high amount of senior talent losses with this class and to where he thinks will be a better state. He does seem to have taken some of the losses hard this year, especially UCLA. It's hard to finish a long coaching career strong though. The question of when he's going to retire will loom larger every year.

When Kirk does retire, I don't think Beth is a splashy hire type, she seems very pragmatic. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Seth Wallace promoted and most of the staff intact including Phil until he eventually wants to hang it up. I only see Beth opting for a major coaching overhaul if things really go south over the next few years.

Besides beating a 5 star QB with a 5th string walk on? What impressed you about Matt Ruhl to make him worth 8 years @ 74 million? You play to win the game.
Nothing about Rhule impressed me.

What I appreciate about KF is he certainly seems like a good human being that almost always recruits high character guys.
But being in a situation where you are playing a "5th string walk on" also says a lot.

Up until a few years ago I would agree with the sentiment of this post, but it's been quite a while since I felt like Iowa had a realistic shot of beating a highly ranked team. Things aren't what they used to be and I'm ready for some new blood.

I know, PSU in 2021. That PSU team finished 7-6 and they also lost their starting in the 1st half and couldn't do anything offensivelyafter that.. They were definitely way overrated.

Certainly does. Says bad luck. Quad, knee, concussion ( Cade ), concussion, ankle ( Sully ), broken thumb in practice (Marco ), non contact knee injury ( Resar ). Enter 5th string walk on Stratton. One page playbook so you don't beat yourself. I chronicled how we were going to win in the game thread last night from page one to the end. Called it, while @QChawks , @Tom Paris and @RagnarLothbrok cried and gnashed their teeth for three hours, then cry about how we won. Gets so phucking old!

What gets old, is watching a coach hanging on to tie or set some coaching record while putting a team on the field every week that has a boring offense with no imagination and running the team into the ground. Hayden Fry's last couple years all over again.

Since Beathard, it's been pretty much a disaster at QB.
You act like this year is some one time phenomenon.
Iowa now has a designation as a QB hellhole.
