No way Fran is leaving. He arguably has the best team in his tenure at Iowa next year. He’s been getting 5 star kids to consider Iowa and has gotten close to landing some. He’ll stay till his kids graduate.
Yeah, if he can say take the team to a good regular season record and better seed and sweet sixteen next year, I can see bumping his salary up some. But he did just get a 400k raise for making the tournament so not sure he needs anything else.
I have it from very reputable sources that Mussleman will stay at a Nevada like program for a reason. So..... lay down the Mussleman pipe, character issues galore.
Wartbug was close to several five star recruits also. They did just as well as Iowa in that area.
Show me the evidence that he can't recruit high major talent; Joe W was a 4 * recruit who stayed home, and he was in the mix with Carton until the last minute. Garza was a 4* recruit as was Cook. Joe T just clicked over to a 4* if I'm not mistaken. He's also got Xavier Foster, a 5*, taking tons of visits. In my opinion (which maybe doesn't mean a whole lot), that is the definition of high major talent.

Fran can walk as far as I am concerned. Think we maybe lose one person on the roster not named McCaffery already and coming in. We need a proven recruiter to get the ball really rolling. The players could try to stop him but probably couldn't anyways...rim shot

That's what happens when you don't win enough. Most of the fans share the opinion of the play by play guy.

I would be surprised if Fran left for Arkansas, but it sounds like he was at least approached. I think he would be making a mistake if he left, because he will be even less successful with the Hogs in the SEC, unless he starts to cheat. Iowa is really close to have a good team, especially if Joe T is the real deal. This is probably as good a time with his kids as he is going to get in the next few years, but it would still be very awkward. I would like to see a different assistant (or two) added, but I am not in the "I hope he leaves" camp...

Fran's pay ranks in the bottom half of the league. Why wouldn't he talk to Arkansas? Get a 6 year contract and he could double his money until he hits 65 and retires. When coupled with the fact he feels unappreciated at Iowa, why wouldn't he leave for more $$$$$?
If he met with Arkansas that to me gives Bart's more leverage to cut ties next yr or two . Ya lookin go bookin bye bye Fran. if ya knew what Fran's record would be 10 yrs ago would barta have hired him? I'd say no.
I guess Fran chose A then. If Fran was in Des Moines and the Ark reps were in IC, I doubt Fran spoke them, which was the question. I’d doubt Fran would directly speak with them even if he was in IC.
You don't have to try that hard to trick Barta out of cash. Give it a try it's easy.
I might be in the minority, but the last 2 coaching searches have changed my perspective of the Iowa job. I don't see this as a lateral move. Especially if they pay more and (probably) invest more in the program. Look at their roster (its talented) and where they are from. The program has won conference championships in my life time. And a NCAA title.
This. Next season could be our best season in a generation. Fran is our best coach since Lute Olson and Dr. Tom. Anyone who wants him to leave or get fired is insane or schizophrenic.
