Fran's Lack of Playing Time For the Freshmen a Mistake?

Agree. Your last sentence is the point I (and many others) have been trying to make and we're told to never question Fran. Any reasonable person would say we are going to experience some growing pains next season at PG. It doesn't mean CW and Bohannon won't do a decent job, but expecting inexperienced players to step in at PG and play at an avg level against B1G competition is a tall order (and you correctly point out they have other question marks). It has nothing to do with Fran not being a good coach or a good developer of talent It has to do with PG being the QB of the team, and game experience is pretty important to becoming good at this. Also, there's no margin of error for Fran. He has NO proven talent to step in. If CW is more like Dickerson than Gesell then Iowa is likely in trouble. I'm not saying he will be but we know Fran isn't confident in his abilities this year because he's giving him no playing time even in Iowa's blowouts, or games where MG or AC are playing poorly.

We most likely will see a significant dropoff in PG performance next year. You have 2 guys who have started for 4 years and now are being replaced by a soph and FR, who've played practically no actual game minutes.

Just to make sure another poster doesn't have another one of his epic meltdowns, let me be clear; I'm not predicting doom for next season, and I'm not worrying about it now. We'll have a much better feel of their development come next fall. I'm getting a real kick out of watching this team. They are fun to watch and they are having an incredible season. If AC and MG would step up and play like they were doing early in the conference play, this team could make a nice run in the NCAA tournament.

I actually see Jok moving to the 2 next year. Williams, Jok, Baer, Uhl and Wagner make the most sense as a starting lineup if you ask me. I don't know what to expect out everyone else next year. It's a long ways away and who knows who's going to emerge? Who knows if Cook is a legit starter next year? Who knows if a redshirt emerges to help next year like Baer has done this year? Uhl's going to have to pick up his defense and rebounding this year and next year though.

Yeah, I see Jok playing the 2 next year. It's to bad Jones got hurt as he would provide another 3 pt shooter, and I think he would have provided another big body for rebounding. Next year has a lot of question marks, with the biggest being PG. Some things might be a little clearer after PTL, and how guys are looking this summer, and we also might get some information about how certain players are looking from pre-season practices.

Would love to see the non-starters get some minutes today! Early and often. Then have them run the show for a decent stretch and boost our lead. That really hasn't happened with any significance since Michigan. Their time is now.

I would like to see Williams, Baer, Uhl and Wagner, mixed in with Clemmons and/or Jok, tear it up. Getting Fleming & Ellingson some minutes would be good too. Would like to see those two guys come around before the season is over. Not many chances left to show it.

Williams has been sitting at the end of the bench and hasn't played in weeks. What gives?

Ellington doesn't do anything for this team. He hasn't scored a point all year. It's like he's not even on the team.

So let me get this straight...the talent difference between Sapp and Christian Williams is soon different that Sapp should play 30 mins per game and Williams should play zero? With Williams being our SOUL distributer next year and a likely 3 year starter? It is still a mystery to me after seeing how well Williams played against Indiana.
