From gambling allegations to this---Cody Chittum be gone? What's next?

I get it but...

It would hurt until you have 4 finalists, 3 champs, and have won back to back team titles. Then, not hiring them would be what would make you sick.

Are we sure Cody is gone?? Done deal?? I'm hearing that might not be the case, but nothing real concrete. Gol dang I hope this is not correct, really wanted this young man to be a Hawkeye and HWC.

I think a wrestler and his parents were adamant about competing and not getting surgery. They really believed he could handle the situation for 1 more year of college and then get them fixed. Unfortunately it didn't work out that way.
I have a very hard time believing Spencer and his family went completely against the coaching and medical staff recommendations. They don’t seem that dumb.

Dude. What's the difference? We stole Gable from ISU. PSU stole Cael from ISU.

We need this generation's Gable/John/Carl - which is DT. We HAVE to break up PSU. Do you really want DT to stay as a freaking CLUB COACH in state college for the next 15 years?!

I think they were given "options" and they rolled with the no surgery. Not saying they went against anyone's recommendations.

With Spencer’s mismanagement, I am speaking to them waiting 9 months to get his knee repaired on. Just completely idiotic.

I don’t remember Eierman’s situation exactly but your training is what helps you prevent injuries. Iowa is clearly doing something wrong.
Eierman got hurt wrestling at the Nebraska dual meet. He put so much weird pressure on his knees in most matches I am surprised it didn't happen sooner. It was late in the match against Red and he (Red) was pretty frustrated and just started yanking on his leg. Shit happens I guess.

I tried to told you guys.

Yes. It's one of the few jobs he would actually entertain. And he would bring Dake, Kennedy and very likely Gilman. Not to mention who from the NLWC would jump.
Obviously, that would be a home run for Iowa. However, that would take a LOT of money to make it happen. DT, Dake and Gilman's first priority right now is Olympic gold in 2024. I would imagine recruiting and college coaching would be a large distraction from accomplishing this goal. Thus, the money / opportunity (for each of them) would have to be too large to say no even if it jeopardizes their quest for Olympic gold.

You must be fantastically connected to David Taylor in order to know information down to this level of detail.
A little bit.

but DT and Dake are legit best friends. And Kennedy is his brother in law. Gilman is done after this cycle, so that one is just a guess.

The injuries didn’t just become a thing around Clark’s time. Hell injuries cost McD another national championship. The Brands coached teams have been riddled with injuries forever.

St. John had injury issues as well. Stroll. Definitely seems like more guys have had major injuries than not. Wrestling is hard on the body, so some of that is to be expected obviously, but Iowa has got to be a routinely more injured team than most other programs.

I said I get it. I know I don't love it and not sure how it sells with the fan base.

Sure it sells better if the results come with it but is Taylor going to walk in the door and beat Carl H2H? And what happens when Carl decides to hang em up? Wouldn't DT be the top candidate to go home and continue the PSU dynasty?

I'm not against shaking things up in IC but not sure that DT is the savior for the program. Then again, maybe he is.

It's not even that we have "more" injuries than other programs. You listen to the PSU guys and they all get hurt as well. but again - and here's that dirty word that TNT are trash at - the MANAGEMENT of injuries is absolutely hogwash.

I can't remember if it was the year Gilman didn't place or lost to Fix - but he had a torn hamstring in january. And the only thing i kept hearing was "he was at practice every day. He's such a warrior." Just incredibly stupid mismanagement of the human body.

Does a big ten head coach need to have experience as an assistant to be hired as an HC? Do they need a masters degree? Does Taylor have either? Honest questions as we have the “fire the coaches hire David Taylor” conversation often on our board as well 😂

How much of Coach Brands most recently signed contract is guaranteed money?

As wrestling is a non-revenue sport, and some of Iowa's big donors are big Gable-Brands supporters, couldn't the current contract be a major hurdle?

Would Tom Brands essentially have to agree to retire as part of any new mega-hiring decision?

How likely is this to happen?

Come on guys??? one person says DT and everyone jumps on board??? No chance we move away from TNT.. Iowa loves the status quo and will not make a big change like that. David Taylor is a pipe dream and just more heart ache for the hawk faithful.

That is the mental toughness mantra, no? Learn to wrestle thru injury. It's stuff of Iowa Hawkeyes legend.

In the past, belief in it may have actually attracted some recruits. These days, I think not so much.

and just to clear things up... DT would LOVE the salary. Here's Tom's:

Brands' annual salary for this new deal starts $550,000 for the 2022-23 season. It jumps every year thereafter:

  • $625,000 for the '23-24 season
  • $700,000 for '24-25
  • $725,000 for '25-26
  • $750,000 for '26-27
  • $775,000 for '27-28
  • $800,000 for '28-29

I'd take Kyle Dake over Taylor any year, every year, until this big beautiful planet explodes and we all die.

To me, Dake already seems like a coach in the making and he's openly said he loves the atmosphere in Iowa City.
Conversely, Taylor continues to act like a self-centered jackass. He may be able to coach, but his attitude has always been, "Me, Me, Me." and nothing has changed over the past decade.

Everyone wants to steer clear of the 'Win At All Costs" scenario, but in my mind, making a bid for Taylor is exactly that.

No thank you.

Are we making a guy who had never even been a college assistant the highest (or maybe second highest) paid coach in the country?

Do you really think Tom didn’t have a say on Spencer trying to compete in 2021-22 before getting surgery?

It should have been done the week following 2021 NCAAs. Lots were saying it then too, so this isn’t hindsight. Do you think Carl fumbles that situation so poorly? I don’t.
How did things work out with Suriano’s injury at PSU? Would that be considered fumbling?

So you think the medical staff’s suggestion was to hold off on surgery and compete another year on a torn knee? I highly doubt that lol.

What’s it going to take for you guys to start questioning all of this stuff? It’s been one management blunder after the next for the better part of 10 years.
I'm not opposed to a change of coaches for a variety of reasons. The scheduling of a surgery, or the thought of TnT overruling the medical experts, would not be among them.

I don't know if you have any inside information but you know more than I do. Where did the DT talk even come from??? Is this just message board stuff or is this an actual option being discussed?

Absolutely message board stuff. Hell, it was just a month ago that Bobby Boy said DT would never be the coach of the "house that Tom built"

Pipe dream? Not really. DT has stated publicly he would take the job. It's probably the one job that he'd leave State College/M2 for.

Well if he wants it, I'm sold! Name recognition from him and Dake, plus a foothold in Pennsylvania would be great.

Dang right I am.

Also. This is the only way we compete with PSU until Carl retires. You have to bring in a generational name that kids want to wrestle for before you even open your mouth. Unless we're just ok with being a "trophy team" sometimes.

We know it won't happen.. We are hawk fans.. We will stick with what isn't working for years because we got "our guys." We accept being mediocre. Yes discussing if we are even good enough to get second is very mediocre. Same with football and basketball. Wrestling use to be different but we have decided to stick with whats not working instead of swinging for home runs.
