Great info if you will be attending the Rose Bowl Game

First of all, thanks for all the great info and those are awesome seats you have for sale. I really hope one of these Iowa fans take them off your hands.

My question is, if you arrive at 4 a.m. do they just assign the tailgate spot where they want to put you? Or do you get to pick where you want to park? If it is the latter, where would you suggest?
Thanks for your comments about my seats. They are awesome seats with a good price so they will sell. I have learned not to be greedy since it is really hard to gauge the ticket resell marketplace. I also hope it will be to a Hawkeye. They have always been my favorite Big 10 team.

The tailgate entrance opens at 4:00 a.m. but I would suggest getting there earlier and putting your car in the line. The main tailgate area is VERY popular and I guarantee there will already be a lot of people there before it opens. It has been a long time since I went in early to tailgate like that, but as I remember, they directed each car to a spot in an orderly way. The earliest arrivals got the best spots closest to the stadium.

Now that is for the primo tailgating area next to Lot H where ALL the action is at. If you don't really care about that, you can tailgate from the gold course which is nice with grass and lots of big oak trees. Not nearly the same ambiance but you don't need to be there at 4:00 a.m. either.

Anything to worry about at the Sierra Madre Villa station? I notice there is a shopping mall close by in case the station parking is full.
To be honest, I really don't know much about that station but I believe the area is not bad. As for parking in a shopping mall, be very careful for signs that say parking is for shoppers only. Some places will tow if they think you are just using their lot for the Metrolink. Might be worth going one or two stops further just to be sure to get a parking spot. All the close stations will probably be packed since many people will take it to the parade that morning and won't have left by the time you arrive.

Okay. I know exactly where 5A is. It is just across the gully. I have attended some game day special group events there. I think that this is as I thought, an extension of the VIP section to accommodate all the people willing to pay more (it s farther than the VIP sections I get offered because of my seats so they may keep opening new VIP sections as demand increases).

It is pretty close if you are just walking straight from your car to the game and that is your only concern. However, if you are planning to attend the events area where all the booths, fans, and TV broadcasting are, then it is almost directly opposite on the other side of the stadium. I guess the question is what you plan on doing after you park and before you leave and what you hope to get out of upgraded parking.

If you want to tell me how much they want for the pass, I'll give you my opinion.

$75

Ill have a 6 year old with me so wont be tailgating. Probably want to leave right after the game.

I haven't read the entire thread, but I don't have a parking pass and I'll be driving in from Rancho Cucamonga. Where can I park and ride or walk at/from? Thanks in advance.

It is probably worth it considering the child. Regular parking is $40 already so for $35 more you are getting a good parking location without having to arrive 4+ hours early. The price seems reasonable all things considered. There will be some things for the kids in the Lot H zone - a lot of business booths where the kids can toss bags or shoot nerf balls etc for prizes. It might be a long day for the child but there are some things they will enjoy there. I don't know where your seats are so I would imagine you will be doing some walking no matter where you park.

I would probably do it for that price considering you have a six year old with you. Have a great time!

You can park at the Pasadena Parsons lot and take a shuttle or walk to the stadium, or just park at the stadium. Both are an easy direct drive from Rancho on the 210.

Parade question. I assume when they say the parade is 2 hours long they mean that is how long it takes the entire procession to pass by any given spectator, right? The last entry isn't at the end of the route by 10:00 am, is it?

Just trying to gauge with seats about halfway along the route (near Hill Ave) what time it will be when the last entry passes us. Assuming the first entry starts the route at 8:00am

Thanks!

PS: how much time would you figure for driving from near Disneyland to the parade that morning?

Thanks again! (Even though your Bruins - or Ronnie Harmon - ruined my last trip to the Rose Bowl)

Correct. Two hours to pass by any given spot. Just like when you watch it on TV, it takes the full two hours or more. The parade runs a 5.5 mile route so takes that long for the participants to walk it beginning to end. Allow yourself plenty of time for whatever you are planning afterward because there will be an unbelievable amount of people and many streets will be closed.

There will be very little traffic from Disneyland to near to Pasadena. However, when you get near Pasadena it will start getting busy because there will be a lot of closed roads, detours, and confused drivers trying to navigate it. I am assuming you have seats for the parade (recommended), so if you want to be in your seats at the parade by 7:30 a.m., I would leave by 4:30 a.m. at the latest to give you plenty of time to make the drive, deal with the Pasadena traffic situation, find your parking, and walk to your parade location. Now that is VERY early since it can probably be done in an hour or less without traffic on a normal day. But I personally would rather be there an hour or more early than an hour late.

I remember that Harmon game. I was there as well. We all thought Harmon was going to run all over us and instead our backup running back Eric Ball had the record setting day.

Thanks. I found an la.com story from last year that said the first entries are expected to reach Allen Ave by 9am. Allen is east of Hill Ave, so the parade should be past us by 11:00. If traffics too bad ia figure worst case we can walk the 3 miles to the stadium and not miss kickoff. One of my wife's coworkers told her if you go to the parade you can't make kickoff of the game. I'm making kickoff!

Game time is 1:30 so I can't imagine you not being able to make it if you are walking. I mean, even if you were at the end of the route and it didn't finish until noon, you still have 90 minutes to go the couple miles (depending on where you start) to the stadium. And frankly after 11:30 it would probably be faster to walk than to drive. Maybe a lot faster at that time. If you have already paid for a parking spot near the parade route it makes sense to just walk. Rose Bowl parking is another $40 and it will take a LONG time to get in there and park anytime within a couple hours of kick off. The area is mostly residential streets and not built for heavy traffic. It is an easy pleasant walk from the Parsons parking lot. There is also the free shuttle as well.

Are your tickets still available RoseBowlSeats? I'm driving over from Vegas so how does the exchange happen?

Yes, as of this minute they are still available. A lot of people have been asking about them so I don't expect them to be around much longer. Currently, they are the least expensive in the section and very well priced compared to all sections in the area (i.e. they are priced considerably lower than the cheapest slightly better seats). And they are actually less right now than all the less desirable surrounding sections as well so they are definitely a great price (I have learned it is better to not be greedy and sell them at a lower price now rather than be sweating it out on December 31 hoping for a better price ). These seats also come with a free premium buffet.

I am selling them on StubHub since it gives both the buyer and seller protections. After purchasing I will deliver the hard tickets to you via UPS two day delivery using the StubHub terms.

They are in Gate F, Club E, Section 205, Row A (front row), on the Iowa side.

Here are some links for you about the tickets:

What do you get?

What is the experience like?

Where are the seats?

The tickets can be bought HERE.

Can you give me some advice. There are 12 of us going to the parade and 9 are going to the football game once the parade is over. We have grandstand seats for the parade next to the Pasadena City College on (Bonnie Ave/Colorado. We have one parking pass at the Rose Bowl. We will park one car at the Rose Bowl and 2 cars at the parade next to the Pasadena City college. We were going to drop one car off at the Rose Bowl parking lot early in the morning and take the other two cars to the parking lot at the Pasadena City college. When the parade is over 3 people will leave and take one car home. The remaining 9 who are going to the game need to get from the parade to the game form that location (Pasadena City college). We were not sure what the best approach was. The young kids can walk ( Rose Bowl parade clerk told me it was about 3 miles from that location) to the Rose Bowl but the older crowd cannot walk that far. Is it even possible for the ones heading home to drop us off close by? Should we take the metro or a shuttle? Where does the shuttle pick up from and where can we catch the metro? We are told the parade should be over around 11:-11:30 at the spot we are at. We want to try and get to the game as quickly as possible after the parade is over to tailgate. Any help is appreciated.

I would have the car drop you off at the Parsons Parking Lot. From there you can take the free shuttle to the stadium. The young ones can walk to the parking lot and meet you there at the shuttle. You will have very little walking and not nearly as much traffic as trying to drive to the game at around noon.

I hope I am wrong but I am not sure you will have much time for tailgating. It will be VERY congested whether you walk, drive, or shuttle. The distance and crowds will work against you a little at that hour so you don't want to waste any time and I don't see the metro helping in this case.

What I don't understand is that there will be 9 of you and only one car after the game. Your other car is still at PCC right? How will you leave?

Follow-up question ... is it possible to drive directly to the VIP Lot 5a (coming from OC) without getting stuck in the parade traffic/closures? We're probably looking at a 9am ish arrival time?

Unfortunately. the VIP lots won't help you avoid much traffic - until you get very close you will be in the same traffic jams as everyone else. If it were me and I wanted to avoid traffic, I would try to arrive by 8:30. That gives you a full 5 hours before kick off. It should be pretty smooth and organized at that time and you will still have plenty of time if there are snags like unexpected closed streets. Everyone is already at the parade and the heavy stadium crowds have not quite started yet.

You should also get an awesome parking spot in 5A at that time.

Would I need to purchase a parking pass ahead of time for the golf course or Parsons, or just show up?

@RoseBowlSeats Can you tell me if this plan would work. Arrive at golf course at 6:30 AM, park, then walk to parade. We do not have tickets, but just plan to view from area closest to stadium where ever we can find (you can go to parade without ticket can't you?) Then watch parade for 40 min or so, leave parade and walk back to tailgate area (golf course) maybe around 9:30 so we have time to walk around and see different tailgates? Will there be food to buy from venders? Thanks for all your help!

Thanks for the info. We have 3 total cars and 3 parking passes. Two cars at the parking garage at the parade (Pasadena City college) and one at the Rose Bowl. One car will leave after the parade is over and head home to hotel and the other will stay there. We figured we would either have one of the younger ones walk back to the garage after the game or we would use the car at the Rose Bowl parade (van) to pack in 9 and drive to the parking garage at the Pasadena college parking garage. I am not sure where the parking will be at the Rose Bowl since we got the tickets and parking pass via the University of Iowa. At the spot we are at the parade we were told the parade should be over by 11:00-11:30. So that gives us 2 hours to get to the game. Where is the Parsons Parking Lot? So the car that is going home should drop some of us off there and the younger ones can walk to the parking lot at the game. We hoped to drop off the van at the Rose Bowl stadium before we headed to the parade very early when there might be little traffic. But we were not sure how early we needed to drop it off.

Depends on what time you arrive and what type of parking pass you get. If you get there early there will be plenty of parking. If you get there late after the lots are filling up, you may be very far. Even though, you should still be able to park somewhere. The parking pass guarantees you a spot so if you are planning to arrive late, it might be worth it but generally I would not consider it a must have unless you can get a specific parking lot relatively close to the stadium for $40.

The parade can be watched without paying. However, if you actually want to see it, it is worth paying the money for a seat in a bleacher. With that you will have an unobstructed view. Trying to watch from the street is really hit or miss - you might be behind 20 other people and unable to see much if anything.

You might have to work on your timing a little but it works as is. The parade starts at 8:00 a.m. but takes a full two hours to complete the route. That means it may not come by for an hour or more at wherever you decided to watch it from. So for instance if you get to the parade by 7:15, wait until 9:00 for the parade to come, watch for 45 minutes then walk the 45 minutes back, you will get back around 10:30. Game starts at 1:30 so you will have 3 hours. A lot of walking and standing before the game but I think it is very doable.

There are plenty of food vendors - by the parade, outside the stadium, and inside the stadium. It can be a little expensive but is everywhere.

I think if you drop the car off at the Rose Bowl by 7:00 a.m. you should be fine. The parking lots open at 4:00 a.m. and there will be an initial surge but will be mostly quiet until about 5 hours before kick off (1:30). That should also give you plenty of time to get to your seats by 8:30 to see the parade.

The young ones can just walk to the Parsons shuttle. They don't have to walk all the way to the Rose Bowl. There is a lot more info on my website about the shuttle HERE.

Thanks for info. Went to your site. Flying into Ontario and really wondered where to land. Your info on ontario and long beach very helpful. Only there 12/31 -1/3 so trying to figure out flexible stop when really only sat and part of Sunday to see beach or whatever. Since have to drive anyway, is Ontario all that far away from getting to beach or LA or west if choose that?
PS. Chuckled at mention of Iowa fans selling tickets to Stanford. With 30,000 requests above the allotment, don,t see that happening. Maybe other way around!

Regarding your question, the answer is that everything is relative. Southern California is a pretty big area and everything is far from everything else. What I mean is that, Disneyland is far from Pasadena, Pasadena is far from the beach, the beach is far from Universal Studios, Universal Studios is far from LAX, etc. So figuring out the best place to stay or fly into is important only if you are planning to spend a lot of time in one specific area. Otherwise, plan on driving and in possibly heavy traffic. It is a car culture so everyone here just expects to drive far in traffic to do things.

Ontario is about 40 minutes from the Rose Bowl and a little more than an hour from the places you mentioned. More in heavy traffic. But like I said it depends on what the plans are. If you stay by LAX which is close to some nice beach areas you will have an hour or more drive to many things as well, including the Rose Bowl.

Th difference I think is that Ontario is going to be cheaper for decent hotel rooms, cheaper car rentals, and is a suburban area, meaning quieter, less rushed, and a lot less traffic and congestion. It also has four main freeways running through or next to it which makes it easy to get going on the road. It is farther from the main Westside attractions but then it is also closer to things in the desert areas such as Joshua Tree National Park, Palm Springs, Oak Glen, casinos and the big outlet malls. So again everything is relative.

If you have your plans or itinerary set, let me know and I'll be glad to give an opinion.

As for the Iowa fans, I hope you are right. Iowa has always been my favorite BIG-10 team. They played UCLA in the Rose Bowl a long time ago and their fans were really nice.It left a very good impression on me. But as for the tickets, I have had to sell my Rose Bowl tickets the last several years since UCLA never goes anymore:(, and have kept good records. Right now the Iowa fans are not buying as strongly as other teams in past years. I have been told that all the Iowa fans are waiting for the prices to drop. If so, that is a mistake. Generally the ticket prices have not dropped in past years and if they all start buying soon, the prices will rise significantly. I just dropped my prices this morning for the last time (they will sell at this price). Last year by this date I had sold my seats for $500 more per seat. There was a much higher early demand by the Michigan State fans. It is very unpredictable.

Anyway have a great trip!

Thanks for response. No real itinerary yet and no problem with driving. Probably just a case of needing to "get back" to Ontario if we do head to beach, etc. Joshua Tree National Park sounds cool. But there will also be football to watch, so not sure it matters!! One area that seemed somewhat central with some other decent hotel prices still was Cypress area. But Ontario just be easiest. Been such a whirl to figure all out, I'm sure some Hawk fans still figuring out the ticket thing. That, we already have, thank goodness!

What can you tell me about RV parking? Arriving on the 31st and leaving the 2nd. How close to parade? Stadium? Any advice is appreciated.

Does anyone know if you can park at parsons for parade and game? I saw it mentioned one place it was for game parking only. Also what can you bring into stadium are camera bags allowed?

Thanks my friend. I am glad to help and hopefully it helps me too! You can definitely do this. The stadium parking lots open at 4:00 a.m. The parade starts at 8:00 a.m. and lasts for about two hours. The walk from the stadium to the closest part of the parade is probably about 1.5 miles. So if you start early there is plenty of time to do both, including watching the entire parade if you want. And you could actually take the free Parsons shuttle back to the stadium to save some energy for the game. Have a great time.

Last time I was there we parked very early at the Rose Bowl, walked to the parade, watched about half of it and walked back. On a nice day it is a great way to do it.

The Rose Bowl Stadium has RV parking for all games. I believe you can park a couple days before and after the game so that would work with your schedule. They park right next to the stadium on the west side - awesome location. It is a couple miles from the parade.

So this may not be a Rose Bowl question as much as an LA question. I never fly into LAX but as I am going through and setting stuff up I notice that when I pull up my Uber app to quote how much the ride to the house will cost I cant get an regular Uber X pickups to show on the app....I have to go to a minimum of select at the airport.

If I move the pickup to just outside on Century Blvd the Uber X's show up again. Is this really how it is....do we have to leave the airport to get a regular Uber ride or is this just a glitch that the drivers work around?

we are staying at the Holiday Inn in Burbank. should we drive to the game or do you have other suggestions?
Hey...Ol' Doodle, Mrs. D, and Little D will also be staying at the HI Burbank-Media Center. Look for us. We'll be wearing black and gold.

It's a good location. Walkable to plenty of bars/restaurants for New Year's Eve celebrations without having to get behind the wheel. And then a reasonable drive to/from Pasadena for the game and/or parade. Also very convenient if you happen to be flying in and out of Bob Hope....you know, for those of you foolish enough to actually set foot on airplanes.

It is my first time to Southern CA. I am staying in Ontario and driving in for the game only, no parade. I found parking at Parkwhiz at 224 N. Fair Oaks. I believe it is a valet lot. Says close to shuttle. We can't get in until 11:30 following the parade would that be a bad decision? Thanks in advance for your reply.

Which is the best exit for carrying a goal post out of the stadium?

This what I plan to do, but what time did you get there in the morning to park? I was thinking 6 - 6:30?

Thx

RoseBowlSeats, I have a few game day questions. We are staying near LAX. What is the best way to get to the Rose Bowl if we intend on getting there between 6 and 7 to park next to the stadium? Is it worth trying to come in from the North? (That appears to be quite a bit out of the way). Or should we stick with coming in from the South or West? I just can't tell how congested it will be in the area where the 210 and 134 intersect. Also, what time do you think we would need to be there to park in Lot H? 4 a.m. is a little earlier than I would like considering we have 3 boys (10 and older). Thanks for your help!
