Great info if you will be attending the Rose Bowl Game

RoseBowlSeats,

We are staying in Glendale. Wife is wanting to go see the parade for about an hour, we are not wanting the grandstand seats. What time would you suggest we leave Glendale to park in the golf course lot, then walk to the parade? We are ok with watching behind a big group, just want to get a flavor of the parade. Also, is it safe to assume we should only take 134 and head north on 2 then to 210 and to avoid 134 near the parade and rose bowl exits (Colorado or 210)?

So this may not be a Rose Bowl question as much as an LA question. I never fly into LAX but as I am going through and setting stuff up I notice that when I pull up my Uber app to quote how much the ride to the house will cost I cant get an regular Uber X pickups to show on the app....I have to go to a minimum of select at the airport.

If I move the pickup to just outside on Century Blvd the Uber X's show up again. Is this really how it is....do we have to leave the airport to get a regular Uber ride or is this just a glitch that the drivers work around?
Uber drivers are not allowed to pick up passengers at LAX (although they can drop off). Taxi lobby is very strong in LA. The workaround is to take one of the free hotel shuttles and have Uber pick you up at a hotel.

It is my first time to Southern CA. I am staying in Ontario and driving in for the game only, no parade. I found parking at Parkwhiz at 224 N. Fair Oaks. I believe it is a valet lot. Says close to shuttle. We can't get in until 11:30 following the parade would that be a bad decision? Thanks in advance for your reply.
In my opinion, trying to arrange Pasadena parking for 11:30 or after is really cutting it close in my opinion. You will "probably" make it but I personally would be apprehensive about that timeline. If there are hang ups in traffic (which is likely), or the Parsons shuttle line is ridiculously long (which is likely), or rhe Parsons bus driver gets lost on the way to the Rose Bowl (has happened to me twice), you may be sweating making kick off. Just my opinion, but this is a big event, tickets are expensive, maybe a trip if you are traveling, possibly a once in a lifetime experience - so do whatever it takes to get there early. Cutting it close like that could really put a damper on your experience.

RoseBowlSeats, I have a few game day questions. We are staying near LAX. What is the best way to get to the Rose Bowl if we intend on getting there between 6 and 7 to park next to the stadium? Is it worth trying to come in from the North? (That appears to be quite a bit out of the way). Or should we stick with coming in from the South or West? I just can't tell how congested it will be in the area where the 210 and 134 intersect. Also, what time do you think we would need to be there to park in Lot H? 4 a.m. is a little earlier than I would like considering we have 3 boys (10 and older). Thanks for your help!
It is a holiday so I wouldn't be too concerned about traffic. There may be some but holidays and weekends are unpredictable. I would just come in the straightest direction, not from the north if you are coming from the LAX area.

If you want to be in the main tailgating area in Lot H, then I would be in line BEFORE 4:00 a.m. That is the only way to guarantee it. However, you can come a little later and it might still be open depending on the demand. I can only speak for UCLA games but it does fill up fast. As for the kids, yeah, that is real early. Then again it will be an adventure to remember if you get a spot.

Happy Holidays to you....

We are staying downtown at the JW Marriott. We want to see the parade, and would like to purchase
parade seating. It looks like the Metrolink has a station at 700 South Flower St. 4 blocks from the JW. Can we
take the Metrolink to a station near the parade route and then get to the game by kickoff time from there? If
so, what parade seating area would we select? What would be our timeline? We would then take the Metro
Back downtown after the game

^ Get seats on S.Orange Grove or close to the Corner of S. Orange Grove Colorado. Were sitting at 430 W Colorado? That is the beginning of the route or close to it and also walking distance of the Rose Bowl. I have a parking pass in Lot 1 for the game and it looks like I can be in there 4am gameday if needed, so I'll be covered parking wise for the game and parade.

This. Get seats for parade in area 1 which is closer to Rose bowl of you plan to walk. 1.5 mile. Would also get them on the north side of Colorado Blvd so no need to cross the route to get to game of leaving early. Area 1 is $95 I think in section "235 W Colorado"

First, congratulations on making the Rose Bowl Game! It is an awesome experience.

I am a longtime VIP season ticket holder for UCLA, which plays at the Rose Bowl. Several years ago, I started a web page with my tips for fans visiting the Rose Bowl. I update it every year and it now includes information about parking, prices, tips to getting a cheap rental car in Los Angeles, understanding the ticket information, things to do, seating locations, best sections to watch the game and actual images of real tickets (mine). It will come in handy for anyone who may be attending the game. HERE IS THE LINK.

Second is my shameless disclaimer: I don’t make any money on the site but I do use it to sell my own tickets to games I can’t attend. Sadly, my Bruins are not in it…again - so I do plug my own Rose Bowl Game tickets there.

If you are coming to the game and you have any questions about the Rose Bowl or where to stay or anything else related, post them in this thread and I’ll try to help.

Good luck!
Thanks for the great information. I have 4 tickets in Sec 17 row 19 and 2 in sec 17 row 15. I know there are 11 lettered rows so that would make these 26 and 30 rows back. That seems like it should be ok but hoping for your thoughts. email is attached. Thanks.

I would leave by 6:00 a.m. at the latest. There will already be plenty of traffic when you arrive but it should be enough time to get to the Rose Bowl, walk the 1.5 or so miles and see 45 minutes of the parade. Now I should point out that there are a lot of people planning this so the parade watching areas nearest the Rose Bowl are likely to VERY crowded.

Take 134 directly to Pasadena. Don't take the 2. There will be little traffic until you get in the Pasadena area, and then it doesn't matter from what direction you are arriving. You can try using the WAZE app to see what the best exit (least congested) to use.

Have a great trip!

I think if you drop the car off at the Rose Bowl by 7:00 a.m. you should be fine. The parking lots open at 4:00 a.m. and there will be an initial surge but will be mostly quiet until about 5 hours before kick off (1:30). That should also give you plenty of time to get to your seats by 8:30 to see the parade.

The young ones can just walk to the Parsons shuttle. They don't have to walk all the way to the Rose Bowl. There is a lot more info on my website about the shuttle HERE.
Do you have to pay to use the shuttle? How long would it take to walk from Pasadena City college (parade grandstand seats) to the shuttle. Will we have to wait to get on the shuttle at around 11:00-11;30? Thanks for your help.

Does the shuttle go the other way? If we line up at 4:00 a.m. can we park at the stadium and then those of us with parade tickets ride the shuttle? Our parade tickets are at 14 South Orange Grove.

Yes, I think the Blue Line is walking distance to your hotel. Your hotel is in a good location - lots of cool restaurants there, including one of my all time favorites.

So you can take the Blue Line to Union Station, where you will have to switch to the Gold Line. The Gold Line has a stop very close to the parade route. There will not be a problem getting to the stadium by walking. There is also a free shuttle but I suspect the parade crowds heading over to it after the parade make it crazy.

Thanks. You should be high enough without any viewing hindrances from there. Is that what you were asking about?

I am guessing it is about a mile or a little more from PCC to the shuttle stop. So it is walking distance for most people. The shuttle is free, however, you have to remember that many of the parade watchers will also be going to the game after the parade, so it may be crazy busy at 11:00 a.m.

The shuttle does not start until 10:00 a.m. so you would have to walk over but you could ride back. The shuttle is free, you don;t need to show parade or game tickets.

Rosebowlseats- I am parking at the Pasadena History Museum, I am coming in from downtown LA, I was thinking about taking the 2 up to 210 and coming down that way. I will be leaving around 6am so I want to avoid the parade traffic as I don't really need to see the parade but just want to get in after the parade starts. I notices you said take 134 and I thought about that, just wondered if the traffic will be more congested going that way compared to going all the way around. Thanks for all your great info.

How far is the shuttle from the stadium in case the lines are too long to get on the shuttle and some in our group might want to walk. You don't have to cross any highways (210) do you? How long do you think it takes to walk and how long does the shuttle take to get to the game? Thanks so much!

Rose bowl website promotes using the train. We're staying in Anaheim. Are there trains from Anaheim that you can take and transfer to the Pasadena bound trains?

Or are there lots you can park at a station for the train to Pasadena? Would such an exercise be faster (and easier to park at) than just driving to Pasadena for the parade? Thx!

We might be able to make a last minute trip to this with the ticket prices falling. Couple questions I have...Is there a crummy part of the area that we should stay away from? I have not really looked into hotels until today. Also, Is there a good beach recommendation that we could hit up on the 31st?

Thank you. I enjoy it - your fans are great!
We're staying in Pasadena about 15 min east of the Rose Bowl (no traffic) just off 210. I want to drive to the Rose Bowl and park wherever is open. My wife insists that doing that is a terrible idea. If we leave to go to the stadium around 8 or 9 would that be alright in your opinion?

Remember it is a holiday. Traffic outside of Pasadena should be minimal. As you get close to Pasadena, congestion will increase. So I would suggest just taking the most direct route. I don't think there is anyway to avoid it in Pasadena if you are parking in the city.

It is a little over a mile and a fairly easy walk. Not a lot of traffic and mostly flat.

As for the shuttle, it really depends on the time you take it. It starts at 10 and is fairly quick at that time. As it gets closer to game time it will get VERY busy and time consuming.

I know there is a train station in Anaheim within walking distance from Angel Stadium. Not really sure about that route but you would need to get to Union Station and transfer to the Gold Line. That is kind of far so if it was me, I would drive.

As an FYI, as of this week Lyft is now able to offer pickup from LAX. From what I have read, discussions with Uber are in process but unlikely to be complete by gameday.

Both providers continue to offer LAX drop off.

We are staying in Anaheim and have 3 cars heading to the parade/game. Two parking passes at the parade and 1 at the Rose Bowl lot. We are dropping one car off at the football stadium and one car will wait and pick the driver up to head to the parade for parking. Two cars are parking at Pasadena City College where we have grandstand seats. We are told the parade should be at our location at about 9:00. Can you give me an idea what time we should leave Anaheim to get parked etc. and what the best route might be. Thanks so much for all your help.

You can look at my website - I have some recommendations for places to stay. You can see it HERE.

As for beaches, it really depends on what you are interested in. The westside beaches like Redondo and Manhattan are sort of yuppie areas (IMO), Huntington has a surf culture, and Venice is probably what tourists think of when they think of the California beach culture.

The Pasadena streets will be closing by 7:00 am. So you should be in your parking lot well before then. If it was me, I would be on the road by 5 at the latest. You may be early but that is better than late.

We are parking in lot I what time do we need to be in the lot to be toward the front, it's too late but is it a good lot to be in for tailgating

I scoured this thread and I don't think this question has been asked, but sorry if it has...
First, great content on the site! Also, I spent a couple weeks at UCLA for a work program, Beautiful campus and great faculty!
I will be staying at the LaQuinta by the airport. Is it easiet to just take the shuttle back to the airport, take a bus to a metro stop, and take the metro out to Pasadena? Or would you recommend a different approach to get to the game from an airport hotel. Airport is LAX. Thanks a ton!

Thanks. Do you have a car? You can definitely get to Pasadena from LAX by public transportation but it would take some effort.

I won't have a car unfortunately. I was hoping to not have to battle traffic and slither in via public transit.

Okay, it can be done. You can take your hotel shuttle to LAX, take the shuttle from LAX to the Green line metro station. Take the Green line and transfer to the Blue Line. Take the Blue Line to Union Station and transfer to the Gold Line to Pasadena. Walk from the Gold Line station to the Rose Bowl shuttle and you are at the stadium.

The problem is that it is a holiday and I suspect the trains run on a skeleton schedule. You should really spend some time figuring out the schedules so that you can make that trip efficiently (i.e. not have to wait at every stop for an hour between trains).

Have a great trip!.
