Happy 14th Birthday The Affordable Care Act

That's been a hollow promise by republicans for years, I'm sure it will be mentioned with no replacement plan/idea to implement at the same time
Because it was a good thing. Plenty of people benefitted from it. You have no idea why you don’t even like it other than Obama was credited for it.

High prices are not his fault. You blame republican presidents too when corporations get greedy?

That can easily be fixed with REGULATION. Would you agree with that?

that one of the main problems is that U.S. hospitals, doctors and pharmaceutical companies charge much higher prices for their services and products.
While most countries can strictly regulate the prices health providers are allowed to charge, there is no such regulation here, and price negotiations between insurance companies and health care providers in the U.S. happen largely behind closed doors.

We already have a shortage of doctors, nurses, techs and aides.

Capping prices will surely help with this problem, right?

There has been a shortage of nurses as long as I can remember.
The corporatization of the medical care industry has to a large part created the shortage and not regs by the government. When you have a wait time of weeks or months and a care clinic with only one doctor on duty at a time and the rest of the staff is solely nursing staff that is not condusive to making high wages and puts dr. under great stress.

  • Compensation: Primary care physicians earn less than specialists like cardiologists and orthopedists.
  • Payment imbalances: The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has made changes to address some of these imbalances, but there is still a public dissatisfaction with the lack of access to routine care.
  • Bureaucracy: Physicians say that an increasingly impersonal and bureaucratic health care system places enormous administrative hassles and burdens in their lap each day, and leaves them feeling powerless to make any meaningful change.
  • Aging baby boomer doctors: Many doctors are retiring due to aging.
  • Pandemic concerns: Many doctors are concerned about the pandemic.
  • Reduced time to spend with patients: Many doctors are spending less time with patients.
  • Reduced insurance reimbursement: Many doctors are receiving reduced insurance reimbursement from managed care companies.

Thanks, Obama. I work under the table for cash and pay everything in cash. I don’t claim any of that of my income. I don’t pay income tax and I’ve been on Obamacare for years and many other government programs. I have never seen a medical bill, I love it.

And?

If the government capped what providers can charge that would help this situation how, exactly?

If that were true you would get Medicaid.

You’re right, I don’t know the difference. I just know I don’t pay for anything and just figured it was some Obama stuff. I can’t believe this was always a thing before the ACA. If could give birth to 5 kids I could retire comfortably.

If there was a program for ignorance you would fully qualify.

Barack Obama Hello GIF by Obama

“You can keep your doctor”
Uh, you can.

You simply need to purchase the plan that your doctor is "in network" for.
I had to change doctors 2x when I was employed with United Health as our coverage network, when the clinic I went to changed who they worked with.

Work plan didn't enable me to get insurance with "any carrier", and hospitals/networks often adjust who's network they will sign contracts with.

ACA was no different in that respect to company-subsidized plans.

I will be a 401k millionaire retiring early and using ACA. Playing around with income/premium calculators makes it look very reasonable. Roth draws don’t count as income so you can live well and still make income look low.

Currently we are getting speeding up on the paying of a couple car loans to get debt free to position ourselves. We drive our cars until they are dust but both cars crapped out for good in the past year. Besides we would have needed new vehicles before entering retirement anyway.

ACA is a big drain on the feds but so are a lot of things. I wish the government would actually pay for what they spend but that’s another thread.

I thought this was gonna be about the cringey video three Obama and two dinosaurs made to appeal to young people to come out and vote for them…on the all important FOURTEENTH Anniversary. Everyone always celebrated the 14th anniversary with presidential speeches. Lol. Enjoy!

I had to get a tetanus booster last month and my PCP office doesn’t carry the shot. Off to UFHealth I go. Quick service and super nice staff. I’m on Medicare but I got a bill for my share: Billed Medicare $861.
For a tetanus shot. A vaccine that’s not a new whizbang cure. I paid $10.00 by the way.
Seriously? That’s crazy.
And Obamacare is saddled with issues too. Premiums can be high and the deductibles high as well.

That's what they "billed". What did Medicare "pay"?

I had blood work done for followup years ago, that ran $300 which insurance would pay out $160 for. One year, the clinic charged another $25 for the "apheresis" procedure. Insurer said "nope, we'll allow $0.25".

So, they paid $160.25 that time.
