Hawkeye Women’s BBall Season 2021-2022

Arizona has been without their best player Cate Reese for a few games. The selection committee takes that into consideration in regards to seeding. BTW... Arizona did lose 45-43.
I don't think us beating Northwestern would be enough to pass Arizona, but my guess is beating Michigan would be. The loss might not hurt Arizona that much because Reese was out, but they also can't add to their resume. Another win over Michigan would be a big addition to Iowa's.

Virginia Tech (a projected 6 seed by ESPN) just knocked off North Carolina (a projected 5 seed by ESPN) in the ACC Tournament. That's a big result for us in the event that we lose to Northwestern.

North Carolina now likely can't jump us even if we lose. Virginia Tech is unlikely to unless it also knocks off 1 seed NC State (and maybe not even then). I'm also not sure that BYU can jump us given that they don't play in a deep conference. Notre Dame, Ohio State, and Oregon might be the only teams now that could realistically jump us (from a lower seed) if we lose to Northwestern now.

Indiana is up 34-25 at the half on Maryland. The committee had Indiana one spot below us.
I'm not sure who to root for in that game. It makes our path to a 3 seed easier if Indiana wins (and helps boost our resume a tad with Indiana staying on the 4 line at minimum), but Indiana might be ahead of us with that win even if we beat Northwestern.

Agreed, I have no idea who to root for either. There are different implications for us with either one winning. From an unbiased fan perspective, I'd like to see Indiana win as Maryland has won the tournament back-to-back.

You don't think the fact that we just beat Indiana 2X will keep us ahead of them?

We have no good way of knowing. The committee could think that the gap between Iowa and Indiana was fairly big. It could think that gap was small and that Indiana's resume is now better with the Maryland win.

I think it's entirely possible that the selection committee would slot us in at #15 right now, but with a caveat that #11 (Maryland) and #13 (Arizona) can't improve their resumes anymore, and that we are also probably fairly close to Tennessee and Indiana. If we make the Tournament final and Tennessee and Indiana don't, I think there's a good chance we end up in front of all 4 of those teams.

I'm rooting for Indiana. By chance we get to the championship game I don't want us to face Maryland.
I think that the team would want a rematch with the team(s) that they lost to during the regular season (Ohio State and Maryland - before they lost). Since Maryland did lose, I am now hoping for a Hawkeye rematch with OSU in the final. I am also hoping to see the Hawkeyes beat both NW and Michigan for the second time in three games. I believe they can do it. Go Hawks!

Even with a 2 seed, the BTT is going to be very tough for Iowa -- NW, Nebraska, Michigan, IN and OSU all pose challenges. Tonight's game will be very challenging as we've struggled with NW and the win in Evanston was a nailbiter. We cannot afford to turn the ball over at a high right and we ABSOLUTELY MUST rebound well.

It's possible we could win out or get bounced tonight. I would like to make it to the final at least, which would give us two more quality wins for our resume and could better our seed.

We should stop talking about possible Semifinal/Final matchups and worry about how this team gets by NW. I'm just hoping NW has tired legs. If there is one advantage we have over the field, it's that we've played a short bench all year. That means we can outlast most of our opponents if fatigue becomes a factor.

If the Big Ten Tournament championship is Iowa vs. Ohio State I think we finish higher than Maryland and Indiana in the seeding at a minimum. I'm also not sure that Ohio State would jump us even by winning that game. That's probably the best route to a 3 seed for us.

We gotta get this win versus Northwestern first! Out of all the teams in the Big Ten I would say they are the one that frustrates us the most.

You can now purchase NCAA tickets for CHA. Of course, your money will be refunded if there are none.

The ticket office is preselling NCAA tickets. I just found out about it and bought 4. Get some before they're gone.

edit: d'oh! a half second late

If I'm jNW I turn up the heat, make ref's make calls.. refs eventually stop calling all but the most flagrant. Hope we jump on em early and often

O'Grady's shots are a bit shaky. A couple of made baskets bounced around like crazy before falling in, and then 3 missed bunnies. Fortunately this will be fixed in no time with Iowa's coaches.

I think it might still be possible for Iowa to get all the way up to a 2 seed if it wins the Big Ten Tournament and gets some help. LSU just lost to a not great Kentucky team. Baylor just destroyed Iowa State. Maryland and Arizona (teams on the 3 seed line) have already lost without improving their resumes. For that outcome to happen, Michigan would either have to lose to Nebraska or us. And in that scenario Iowa would be 5-0 in its last 5 against top 4 seeds (or an Ohio State team that is close).

Yes was wondering about this too. Not if Iowa will host, but how high could they rise in the polls. Nebraska up 26-12 early over Michigan. It's early, but if that holds Iowa's path to Sunday suddenly seems more feasible than before.

Nebraska would be a tough out for Iowa. Nebraska’s overall athleticism is superior to Michigan (although they have no one athletically equal to Phelia), and superior to Iowa. IMO, the future is bright for Nebraska WBB.

They're very talented and Markowski is going to be a menace the next few years. But I'd rather play Nebraska just because Iowa has beaten them twice and Michigan is probably the better team when they're playing their best... But as I type this it seems Michigan is still out of sorts.

Nebraska pulls it off. The Committee's 2 and 3 seeds are imploding before our eyes. Huge, huge opportunity for Iowa tomorrow and possibly Sunday.

You could tell that wasn't the set play at the look of Leigha Brown's face
Yea, that was funny. And folks wonder why plays like this get sideways and blame coaches or why Keegan didn't even touch the ball.....again, Leigha's face said it all like "this isn't the way we drew this up a minute ago during the timeout". Like folks are saying....a freaking panic attack.

Rough end of the game for Kiser. I've sort of had a soft spot for her (when they're not playing us of course) because her career has been so similar to Hannah Stewart's -- rode the bench for three years and is shining in a starting role. Would be understandable if she were nervous being in a high pressure postseason situation like that for the first time. I hope Michigan makes the Sweet 16 or more again because it would reflect highly on the conference as a whole.

I go over seeding scenarios more in my recap, but in terms of rooting interests for tomorrow:

Ohio State > Indiana: If we win the whole thing it won't matter, but anything short of that, Indiana losing tomorrow likely helps us.

Kentucky > Tennessee: Kentucky is playing well recently, so this is entirely possible. If we beat Nebraska and Tennessee loses this I think we jump them.

Kansas > Oklahoma: I'd like to see Oklahoma take another loss just in case we lose. Kansas is decent, so this is absolutely possible.

Miami > Notre Dame: Notre Dame was probably one of the higher 5 seeds. Having them lose would be good.

Georgetown > UConn: Extremely unlikely to happen. Any UConn loss in the Big East tournament helps us, but this would be especially crippling for them.

West Virginia > Iowa State: Unlikely, but it is a road game for ISU. If ISU were to lose this, the entire 2 seed line except for Baylor would be in free fall.

Oklahoma State > Texas: Extremely unlikely, but OSU did just play Oklahoma close.
