Hawkeye Women's Hoop season

Yeah, that was a UNI team with 4 returning senior starters plus Kam Finley, and Iowa made them look like they hadn't even prepped for the game. To be fair, this was a normal Iowa-UNI result, whether in IC or CF.

Certainly a different outcome than last year when we lost to them 88-66 in CF.

I saw Clark play a handful of times during her Jr & Sr years in HS. Every time I saw her, she made several plays that made my jaw drop. She would have been the secong best player on the Iowa squad if they would have let her play as a high school junior. She's that good. In 20 years of watching HS bball in the midwest, the only playerthat comes close to Clark is Jaime Printy before she hurt her knee in high school. Clark is probably a better passer though.

I thought even before last nights game that Clark will become Iowa's All-time leader scorer. She will probably be 1st team All BIg Ten this year. Enjoy the ride Hawkeye fans

The closest I can remember is Anne O'Neil from CR Kennedy, who unfortunately played in college first for Illinois and finishing at Iowa State.

So, what can be done to alter the video presentation to avoid the replay of scores which results in missing the other team's possession... defense is part of the game too, even if not a team strength? Very irritating and something you never see.

Not have every game on BTN plus. What happened to BTN Student. Sometimes the announcers were pretty bad but it was so much better than plus.

Just have the live game on the big screen and only have highlights (which they have done anyway in the past) during timeouts.

Good call. I considered O'Neil, it's been a looooong time since I saw her play. hahaha. Clark's crossover step-back 3 is James Harden like .

Is it possible for radio play by play to be linked with the video at Carver so they are in sync. Over the air it's not.

No score on the screen. No commentary. Miss chunks of the game...to show replays of plays that often don't deserve a replay. Wonder whether other school's coverage is this bad.

Agree that the BTNPLus coverage really needs some work. How about just showing the Scoreboard once every 10 minutes, for goodness sake. Or, are we suppose to keep a score sheet of our own?

That being said, McKenna Warnock, Gabby Marshall, Monika Cziano all looked very good.

Oh yeah.........and who's this new kid from Polk Co? Not too bad either

I posted this in the Lounge as explanation. You can probably forget about all the tweaks we would like to see. This is the plain and simple way Iowa is doing it. I would be curious how other schools are, but I only signed up for Iowa.

Unless something changes, we are stuck with just seeing the video board feed you would see overhead if you were at the game. Hence no announcers, no score graphic, nothing you would get if it were a normal televised game. Instead you get the constant replays during subsequent action you wouldn't mind if you were sitting in your seat.

Doesn't seem worth it for what we pay. I don't know who we complain to but doubt it changes.

I kept up with the score and stats with statbroadcast.com. Unfortunately, the video feed was so far behind, you would know what was going to happen before you saw it but only way to keep up with the score.

This was a one-off production...i had never seen the in-house video simulcasted before. Usually the BTN+ games feel just like regular BTN games.

This type of production always has occurred around the holidays (mostly X-Mas) when the students are not on campus. With the covid-19 situation, who knows what the future games will hold.

FYI I see fortunately the next game at Drake will be televised on both ESPN+ and Mediacom. As before, BTN+ does not cover non-conference away games.

The in-house PA guy was cracking me up with how loud he screamed after baskets. Dude could have toned it down 8-10 notches and it would have still been enough. But, Caitlin Clark is unreal. Stacy Frese had crazy game back in the day as well.

Could be quite a battle for freshman of the year. Reese and Clark were the only 2 2020 McDonald's All Americans to choose Big Ten schools,, and they started their careers as expected. May be a 2-player race all year.

I've made that comment on here before and said announcer came to "explain" that he's trying to bring energy to the game.

Sounded like Tomi Taiwo got on the wrong side of coach Bluder. She made the trip to DSM, will be interesting to see if she plays Wednesday evening.

I was wondering if Marshall hadn't just plain moved ahead of Taiwo last season, and whether Taiwo might have started looking for somewhere else to play over the summer. I do think it's nice to have some 5'10" - 6'0" guards in today's WBB, so I'm pleased she's still here and hope she can contribute.

Yes I think the underclassmen Gabbie, Meyer, and Jensen bring more to the guard court. Better ball handling , better shooting and in Jensen more size as well. Tomi has had some good moments but the younger players game is better at the time.

Gabby passed Tomi up in pre-season last year & Megan Meyer hasn't shown much yet either. I think Tomi could help this team as she's a nice outside shooter, brings some quickness, & more size but hasn't got consistent playing time yet. She did hit 3 big triples in Ames last year when Iowa really needed them but then we didn't see much of her again until maybe the Illinois game. With this unique season, Iowa may need all of these guards to contribute so it will be fun to see what they bring to the court.

Surprised that Tomi would be beat out, she is very talented. Caitlin is going to blow out the records at Iowa and I think Lauren Jensen will be seeing a lot of time soon. Her and Caitlin appear to be much bigger stronger and way better shooters then the rest of the guards. Lauren has a very quick release.

Meyer appears to play point guard mostly at this moment. Taimo plays off guard, doesn't she?
Meyer has moved to the point guard this year. Outside of the starters there is a lot of versatility, Gabby was the b/u point last year but also played the other 2 guards spots a lot, especially when Zion took the few b/u point guard minutes that were available.

Meyer is more of a natural PG. Gabby is a combo but more of a scorer. Meyer is an excellent passer but needs to work on her outside shooting consistency. I would say the best distributor on the team behind Clark

Wasn't it a similarly tight high scoring game two years ago at Drake? I believe Gustafson scored around 40 points. Somehow last year at Iowa City the score was in the 60s.

Iowa is missing last year’s seniors more on the defensive end than offensive — Doyle, Meyer and Ollinger. This young bunch has a lot to learn but they will get better.

I agree mphawk. Last season Doyle brought the intensity from the opening tip & everyone else followed. Tonight, outside of Caitlin there was no intensity/energy on either end of the court in the first half which was frustrating to watch since that is something they can control.

It was good to see Gabbie pick up full court too. Her Mt. Notre Dame teams pressed teams continuously & she thrived in it so maybe she can force a backcourt turnover each game or slow the advance. I didn't know Lexi was injured, she provided some good moments in the deciding run.

They may not have the defense where it needs to be yet but Drake is very very good. It was amazing to see the offense pull this off. Great game real nail biter.

I hate to say it but I think Meyer ends up getting passed by. Clark may already be the best PG in the B1G and she needs to be on the floor to make this team go. I have seen Sydney Affolter play a ton and I think she will get some guard minutes right off the bat as a freshman next year because she is someone who can guard and keep people in front of her. Jensen didn't get many minutes last night but I think she works her way into the rotation more regularly by the end of this year.

If you look at the player minutes from the Drake game, the guard bench minutes basically went to Sevillian & Taiwo (10 & 16 minutes) while Meyer & Jensen had 5 between them. I think there is still a lot of competition for minutes at the 2-3 spots. Gabbie slid over to spell Caitlin at the point quite a bit last night & Kate Martin may be better suited to play more at the 4. BIG play opens Saturday, Lisa earlier said this lineup is in pencil so we may see where she is headed with it real soon.

Sydney Affolter could be the answer at the 3 next season, she is really strong & talented.
