Hawks add to RB depth with Juco back Mekhi Sargent

I seriously dont think I can "like" the way the U of I is working with IWCC enough. Hopefully the two coaching staff start/continue working together to get kids who are serious D1 talent into IWCC with the goal of playing for Iowa. There are some seriously talented guys who realize just a little too late they are not going to get D1 handed to them with D grades. One way of getting around the "no oceans, mountains etc..." is to have a built in pipeline. I'm not saying we should go full on Juco but identifying 2 or 3 kids a year and both staffs working together might mean Iowa ends up with 1 or 2 extra guys.
I'd like to think that KF has finally seen the benefits of supplementing JUCO players to tweak weak roster positions; he's certainly fought that during the past two decades. Most schools do it, but, as we all know, KF is slow (stubborn?) to take a chance and/or make changes. That said, KF should also explore more JC/CC's around the country.

I'm really trying to be positive with the new recruitting and staff so I will focus on opportunities. One thing that seems to be happening a lot this season is QBs transferring. It would be nice if the staff considered this in option if they dont get one of the guys they really really want moving fwd instead of continuing to put out more and more offers to guys who they may not like as much.

Example:

"We" might bring in one JC kid a year to fill positional needs. Scooter has signed 6 juco guys since going to Debra. It wasnt the signing of the jucos that I was referencing it was turning the roster over. That was a secondary aspect to my "winning at all costs."

What you said when pressed to explain why you thought Nebraska was in Win-at-all-costs mode, you stated the following:

"Bringing in marginal qualifiers (mo washington), jucos, specifically creating a spring conditioning to create attrition (I actually wish iowa would do this more)... off the top."

1) Verbatim, you gave three examples of WAAC - he brought in a marginal qualifier, he signed a handful of JC players, and he had roster turnover. The way you stated them in the quoted post, they weren't secondary at all to the "attrition" you referenced, and actually support. You have to think people are idiots if they think you actually aren't a hypocrite and caught in a lie.

2) Two of the JUCOs Nebraska brought in recently were to fill holes in 2018. If "positional need" isn't understood in the fact that he's bringing in guys that can play in 3 months, then what is it?

2) He's got the same number committed for 2019 that Iowa does.

3) Had Iowa not lost the Will Honas recruiting battle to Nebraska, you'd have added another to your 2018 class to go along with the other you signed.

4) When Frost fills his roster holes, do you really think he'll sign 5 jucos each year?

Sargent is described as the first team juco aa RB in the article and his stats both at juco and as a hs senior are outstanding. We need 3 effective backs this fall, so good pickup no question.

That said, I see other juco rbs (for eg the Nebraska and Ole miss pick ups) who claim to be juco aa or number one ranked rb. Interesting that everyone says they got the best juco guy.

What appears to be the official juco AA list:

http://njcaa.org/sports/fball/2017-18/all-americans/index

Sargent and Greg Bell (NE) are listed as first team AA.

Ole Miss' "#1 juco RB" Phillips isn't on 1st, 2nd or honorable mention lists. He was honorable mention last year as a frosh.

I have given you my answers of why I feel Scott frost is in a win at all cost or more importantly "win now" mode. I'm not interested in going back and forth with you. I feel scooter is doing what he needs to do because you are in such dire straights that being said "desperate times call for desperate measures" is fitting here. This thread is about a stud juco who is walking on at Iowa, if you want to talk about debra I suggest. https://iowa.forums.rivals.com/threads/ot-is-nebraska-now-in-win-at-all-costs-mode.232434/

I know nothingggggggg. It was just an assumption and if the kid is walking on probably not an accurate one. With bringing in 2 RBs in '18 and 2 RBs in '19 if Sargent was on schollie and Harrell had to be moved over it just led me to believe they were not overly in love with what KB was bringing to the table. 8 "running backs" plus whatever you call S. Evans is alot of distribution to one spot in 2020.
If we were to ASSUME anything, got go with Toks’ football career be over. Thus thinning out further an already thin position.

I see Evans as a poor mans Tim Dwight most likely, SE/PR....or possible move to DB.

Harrell’s move probably speaks more about his strengths or weaknesses than it does KB.

Another offer out to a player from IWCC. Wonder what this says about our DL recruiting right now?
